Maybe I should build a still?

This time of year no heat and no AC operation. Fully charged by 10:30 AM. Maybe I should build a still and make some alternative fuel? Just nowhere to go with the excess.
I have been trying to come up with something myself but besides some crypto mining i havent figured out yet what to do with the excess power.
Making fuel sounds difficult.

water heating

Already done, went heat pump water heater first week of March.
bigger battery (for winter)

Already have Luyuan box here bringing total bank size to 74 Kwh.

centrifuge waste motor oil (make black diesel for a generator)

My diesels are all common rail, there won't be any black diesel in them with the 25K psi in the fuel rail.

Don't need a generator, we used less than 3% of the yearly Kwh this past year from grid. Less than $5.

With added 14 Kwh in the Luyuan box, I'm wondering if the house will use any grid power this winter.

EV charging
No EV here, just not quite the answer in Timbuktu, Iowa. It is some distance to anywhere with civilization and it gets to -30°F here in the winter.

I'd build a still before buying an EV at this point. I can "sample" the product. That would keep me warm when it is -30°F. :)

We added another 18K btu mini split this last month but too nice here in Iowa to get much use right now. Come June, it will be running full bore when the humidity kicks in.

Buy another minisplit, build an indoor greenhouse and start growing fruit to use in your still. 🤔
I need to buy 2 mini splits for the shop first. Want better efficiency than current units.

There is a video on Youtube where they are growing oranges in Nebraska in the middle of winter. Greenhouse uses ground tubes for heat at night.

Ethanol not that hard. Make mash, let it ferment, distill off the alcohol and feed the wet distilled mash (distillers grain) to the hogs.

If you aren't drinking the product, you can just use a copper/brass radiator for condensing.

I saw that a while ago, really neat.
I've contemplated something similar mamy times, when I find my forever home.

I still think a still is a good idea, just don't go battery powered Stilhl.

1: Build still for ethanol
2: Convert generator to run pure ethanol
3: Drink "leftovers" for doing a good job.
Pure ethanol in an engine will not start at -30°F. I guess one could use a block heater powered by solar.

I won't be posting much here with leftovers, all my rowdy friends will be coming over.

Right...."fuel".....thats what you tell the wife?
It is fuel ….it is…. AND it’s an antiseptic….what if you ran into an old solider on the hillside that had been shot with a musket …..you could do some in the field EMS work and save him..
That would be a noble cause …..she would be proud of ya…

Stopped by a long time friends house a month ago and he was out of sipping whiskey he usually has around.

We went thru about 6 different old bottles he inherited or had given to him over the years. Some had cobwebs on them. I sampled each one, I drink it straight up.

Good thing my wife was driving home, I almost passed out 3 times on the way home. Went straight to bed I guess, woke up next morning with the same shirt on, no pants. Actually felt fine, of course it was about 8:30 pm when I crashed into bed.

Stopped by a few weeks ago again, told him some of that must have been used as antiseptic during the Civil War.

They say it doesn't age once in the bottle, I have to disagree.

Does methanol come up as part of the fermented products? You can get blind from that. We need a moonshine section.
How about making ice? Could you make bags and bags of ice and sell them?

Haaa it’s about 160 proof anyway …that’s stronger than the 70% alcohol at wallmart you buy for medicinal purposes.. but ya will need a belt to put in the soldiers mouth and help to hold ‘em down to operate on em..

I have drank similar things in my youth ….but my liver heart and brain is too old to do that anymore….. but it was funn…..reminds me of what we used to make what we drank in high school …….PJ….

Haaaa

Yes! I think its a great idea. Also, you can make medicine extracts with ethanol. I made some black walnut and it cured my lyme disease.
