Anyone know what's the best way to mount panels on the side of a house over a balcony? It will not only be a balcony cover, but will produce electricity. The panels are fairly heavy at 56lbs. Could be something that mounts them on a wall but out about 6 inches to cover the roof, or could be some kind of raised metal rack or narrow pergola or something like that

Is your balcony not flat where you can mount them right to the roof of it?

Sounds like you want to build a solar roof over the entire balcony?

@meetyg What a hazard, somebody from the building department would red tag that within a week. Even in china, I suspect.
Why do you think so?
Because of the weight of the panels?

Anyways, I was necessarily recommending the use of these, I just wanted to understand if this the OP's intention.

I have heard of people wall mounting using unistrut. Link below to a prior discussion on using it.

1) Use the lighest panels you can find. Flexible 100-200 watt panels are lighter and more rugged - and when your jury-rigged balcony cover flies off in a windstorm it will do less damage.

2) Use aluminum extrusions for structure. Again, they are light and strong, and readily available.

3) Talk to an engineer you know about wind loads and anchor points. You might have to buy her dinner or something.

Or (crazy idea):

4) Get a quote from a contractor for the work.
