looking for a good quality bms for my large 14s system

Hi,

You may need to e-mail the vender you bought it from and ask them. Mine came with the password blank. The password is stored in the BMS, so it won't matter which app you use as long it looks for a password.

Here are the screen shots from my app.

Mine says "Modify Password" as it is blank
On the control page, you could try "Factory Reset" and it might clear the password again.

I started a separate thread, got a reply: 123456.

Should have known, that's similar to my inverter: 123456 to access most settings, 12345678 to access some others.

Worked.

Much better than trying to keep the high cells low with a pair of screwdrivers, some wires, and a light globe.

It was like playing Wack-a-Mole!

Clouds coming and going didn't help either.

Thanks,

My Heltec BMS didn't come with a cable or connector for the CAN bus did anyone get something for that? I would appreciate pictures or any data to figure out what connector I need for it.

It's the little one on the left

From Heltec Aliexpress - RS485 Communication Box for JK BMS

This is from the BMS listing-

Support CAN / RS485 interface (optional)
Support CAN / RS485 interface, user protocol can be embedded, flexible expansion

It looks like RS485 and CAN have the same connector unless I am missing a key or something. I don't need the box, but I would get a cable for $7.
Thanks!

I have looked a bit and can't find any data on the information or protocol on the CAN or RS-485. If you do find something let me know.

I would bet the port on the box is TTL or 3.3 volt ground, power, RX data, and TX data. The box is a level shifter etc.

Oh boy,, that would be a scam if they charged for a password.. I'd be pitching a fit..
I hate that there's no consistency in this item, different color wires and terminology.. Like C- and P- and a few other things..
What's wrong with this picture...

Ok,, so I understand right, connect main NEG 1st, then the balance wires? Or?

Hi,

Connect a red balance wire to each cell +ve.

But first, connect the black wire. ?

I tested the voltages at the connectors before plugging in to BMS. Try not to touch the DMM probes together with the first couple! I didn't but almost nearly got close.

Connect B- to bank -ve, kick start with bank voltage+5 to P-, then connect P- to load/charger. Can probably do "kick start" with P- connected.

Oh yeah, DO NOT use un-insulated tools!!!! Not even for a quick check of the screws. There is ALWAYS an opposite pole just waiting for a connection.

some of your sentences are kinda misleading, i have to read over them to make sense at 1st...
I'd have said connect NEG 1st...
and USE INSULATED TOOLS...that "DO NOT" threw me off..
So basically. you confirm that I connect the B- , then connect the Neg of the balance lead, and then the red ones..
I am making my harnesses, I plan to use the Balance leads that went to the battery.. and splice that onto the balance cable of the BMS.. that way, it's all disconnectable. When i'm done, i'll just plug it all up.

Yes. Sorry, it was a homage to the M.A.S.H Bomb disarming episode.

USE INSULATED TOOLS = DO NOT use un-insulated tools

I connected the balance wires one at a time, black/-ve first, then others in turn. I put a ring terminal on each just prior to connecting. Tested them. Plugged into BMS. Then I connected the B-.

They typically recommend that you connect all of the balance leads with the connectors not plugged into the BMS board. Once they are all connected, you test them with a meter to make sure they are in order and you didn't get any crossed. Then plug in the low group first, the one with the black wire, then plug in the high group.

Oh,, thanks, Gonna be working on this, this weekend.
Going to use the oem balance leads and connect with the BMS leads.
Where do i find the app? Still need to down load it too.
3 units, 1 app will be interesting

Can someone give this a look over.. If you can understand it.
I want to make sure I'll assemble my harness corectly..

App from here: https://heltec-bms.com/support/

You can rename the BMS, so 3 should be OK. Could use 3 old phones.

I have an old phone, mounted next to the battery box, with the app running. I can view it over the LAN using Teamviewer.

That's different to my connectors:

(not my actual BMS 'cause that's attached to the battery bank ATM)

The connector in the picture is the balance connector for my batteries, not the BMS

Ok,, i tried to download the app, but it won't download.. It does nothing when I click on the link..

I have an iPhone, I was able to just search JK BMS on the iTunes stores and install it from there.

Ok,, i tried to download the app, but it won't download.. It does nothing when I click on the link..
I got the download. I had to find it in the downloads folder and extract it. Then double click on the APK.
It's different than the one on the google store. I wasn't able to connect with the one on the google store.
Now I am connected but there is a password for settings that I haven't been able to get past.

Ok, i found the app. this morning, just for giggles, i saw a QR curse on the box that the BMS came in,, scanned it and a web link came up, clicked on it and it took me to the down load page, It's all in Chinese, but there is some English words, or was easier than I thought.
I tried to scan the code on the BMS, but it won't read it..
I kinda messed up one BMS, I had it held in place while I made my cables, and later when i removed the take, the QR code came with it
Shit!, i hope it wasn't anything important.. I carefully compared it with the other BMS's i got, and they are all the same,,
So, i hope to fire the 1st one up soon..
I attached a screen shot of my QR code that links to the App,, there's other options also, they have it for Android and IOS
