Seplos CAN BUS RS485 48v 200A 8S-16S BMS

yes, got the display, not sure how much use it will be, it goes dark after 30 seconds, cant seem to find a way to disable that, so no quick glance like my old BMS. when you reactive the display you have to scroll back through the menus to see the cell voltages etc
that is a shame..
well , most important thing is communication with inverter anyway.
that way i'll be able to get the info i need anyway :)

Anyone make progress on an enclosure yet? I found a plastic box on Amazon that is plenty big enough to contain the BMS, but I'm wracking my brain on how to mount the board - since both sides of it need things connected to them (battery terminals and balance leads on the one side and the RJ45/DIP switches and heat sink on the other side).

Not sure how I feel about mounting it on standoffs tall enough to let the balance leads clear.

Ideas would be appreciated...

Just ordered 8s 24v 200Amp version for a series of batteries I am building. Thanks for blazing the path here guys.
I am working with a Victron MultiPlus. look forward to my build.

im looking into 3d printing a front, which would look similar to the seplos front and can be mounted tona batterybox.

another thing i am looking at , is using an old 5u server enclosure, this way i can make similar modular battery shelves that i can nicely mount in my 42U server rack

I am thinking of fiberglass board on standoffs with cutouts to look like front of ess items from seplos.
I am also looking at server racks.

So I just got mine to replace a 200a 16s JBD that started smoking at 70a...anyway, I wired it up the way the manual/diagram shows. Charging works fine, but when I flip the DC breaker on my Sunny Island on, the BMS gives me a short circuit protection warning and cuts off. Any ideas what might be causing this? I emailed them asking but haven’t heard back yet. I didn’t require anything on the inverter and it was working with the JBD bms

I have sent a note to Spelos asking them for a solution and will post up on this chat if I hear anything back.

pre charge the Suny island ??

I wanted to add my experience so far. I have a new DEYE 5k 120/240 splitphase unit, and a Seplos 48v 200A BMS. According to the manuals, the DEYE is supposed to use the pylon protocol, and the Seplos unit can be set to the same.

I've tried everything I can think of to get the two units to talk to each other -both CAN and RS485, multiple attempts on custom cables, testing the cables as I go, verifying protocols in the BMS, etc, etc. I just can't get them to talk. I even tried only pins 5&6 as shavermcspud mentioned above.

I'm about to contact Seplos to see if they can offer any help-

The capacitors in the sunny island are huge.... you should try powering on the BMS /last/ and take advantage of it's soft start resistor. Doesn't the SEPLOS have a programmable soft start timer?

this bms has a precharge build in

This is interesting, and I don't have a solution for everyone. butttt... I plan on using the CAN protocol with my home automation [Home Assistant ] to monitor the batteries and modbus protocol to do monitoring and control of my Victron Multiplus. I already have the modbus connection working such that I have a live display and an automation the tells you when the battery is running low through my Sonos speakers in the house.

I had this same issue, see my previous post, it was to do with the BMS cable pints 7&8

I read through your post - I'm not even using pins 7&8 - I'm only using the CAN H, CAN L, and Ground pins.

In my latest cable attempt (out of 7? 8?), I even joined together the two grounds from the BMS side (pins 3&6) to the single ground on the DEYE side (pin 2), just to ensure that both sides would see the ground wire correctly.

Can you post a similar picture of your cable pinout that works for you?

Hi, i only have connected pins 4 & 5 no ground nothing else.

From Seplos

If your cable is T568B, please disconnect other connections except 4/5

Other brands of inverters can turn the battery system on and off with pins in the Seplos BMS.

Well, my wires (and I guess my understanding) were backwards. I snipped the ground wire, and that didn't do anything. I finally just reversed my 4&5 wires, and it worked! At this point, I'm not trying to understand it...

For anyone else who may come across this, here was my final wiring diagram. I have T-568A on the Seplos side (though could be T-568B - won't matter for these two wires) and the below picture on the DEYE side (blue on pin 4 and blue/white on pin 5):

Seplos unit is now communicating via CAN to my DEYE unit!

I received a response from Seplos which read as follows:

"We are planning to design an out box for our BMS and the project is running. So please follow our website and if we have an update we will upgrade our new products list on our company website".
