MPP LV2424 A/C Input and shore / Generator Power ???

I will be installing the MPP HYBRID LV2424 in a few weeks. It will be in a small 21' 30 amp Travel Trailer. We plan on boondocking a lot with it but as we also full time we will be plugged into shore power from time to time. We also will have a 2500 watt genny.

Our plan is for the MPP to power everything other than the A/C. I was going to just run the Shore power through the MPP and back to the fuse panel. However after reading someone else's post this probably won't work. They said the MPP LV2424 actually throttles the 30amp power to the 2400 watts. I need to be able to have the generator or shore power plugged in running the A/C while the MPP LV2424 powers the coffee pot (700 watts) and air fryer (1450 watts).

I'm hoping there is an easy answer like pull the A/C breaker off the input to the MPP But I have no idea how to do that. In my current rig we only ran 1 breaker through our 1,000 watt inverter which gave me that idea.

That implies to me that it can pass through at least 30A from shore power. It is interesting that the chart does not show the 2.4K model, but I would guess it has a 30A transfer switch. The 10AWG in this chart also implies it can handle 30A.

If you look at the bottom left of the unit, you will also see the circuit breaker for the incoming AC, if I remember correctly the circuit breaker is rated at 40A.

But I'm curious how do I run my generator plugged into the shore power to power the Aircon but have the MPP powering the rest of the rig? Someone said the MPP pulls from grid power first so it would try and use the generator to power the A/C AND the Air fryer (example) if running both which would trip the inverters load I think. Sorry not familiar with this type of things so not sure how that would work. Like I mentioned I "would think" I would not put the aircon feed through the MPP but don't know how to wire this situation

What is the total wattage you need to run at one time?
What is the wattage of your generator?

The 30A shore power is 30A * 120V = 3600W.

The 30A shore power is 30A * 120V = 3600W.

The generator is 2500 watt (1850 continuous)

Using the air fryer to cook would take 1450 continuous & the A/C is 1450 watts (in desert conditions, 105 degrees, 1700 watts). So 3150 watts total MAX scenario. I thought the unit was capped at 2400 watts but I don't know how to read that, sounds like I'm mixing two things.

Are you saying
- It will take the 1850 from the generator and then pull the balance from the batteries?

or

- Pull the full 3600 watts from shore power and none from batteries?
 
I do not have direct experience with the LV2424, but from scanning the manual it looks like the AC output will either be all from the AC in or all from the inverter. (Some units like victron have a 'boost' mode that will supplement shore power)

From your discription, it sounds like the big issue is when you are on generator (1850W) and using 2400W or power. In that situation you want to run the AC from the generator and everything else from the inverter. Is that correct?

Yes, but that is different than having the battery power supplement the AC out when the primary power source is the AC in.
 
If he is connected to shore then there is not need to turn on the inverter to supplement the AC output, the output will be from shore and able ti charge the battery at the same time. I thought he wants to run power from shore only when he is docking. The battery will still be able to be charged from Solar too when inverter is off.
He is not trying to pump the power back into the utility is he since it is Hybrid inverter? I do not see the need for hybrid inverter in this case.

2) When NOT on shore power and NOT on the generator he should be fine because he won't use the AC and the inverter is good enough for everything else.
3) When on generator he wants to be able to run the AC, but the generator does not have power to run everything so he wants the AC on the Generator and everything else on the inverter.

I think the best way to set this up is to hook the AC directly to the shore power input. (That probably means pulling the AirCon wire out of the existing AC Box and routing it to a seperate spot upstream from the inverter. It is probably going to need a separate small breaker box.

EXACTLY what you said are the scenarios I for-see happening.

3) is the catch. I want to be able to run the AC and the Air fryer at the same time. Yes some units like the victron have a "Boost" from the batteries. I have seen that in the advertising for the unit but don't know if this unit has something like that. Not sure if "Boost" is the technical term or just something they say in the advertisement for newbies like myself, lol.

I don't pick up the Travel Trailer until the 17th/18th so I' having a hard time visualizing how to disconnect the AC wire and re-route that.

So I was doing some thinking and if I have the generator power come in and then the A/C split off from the panel, the generator will power the A/C and the MPP will power the air fryer is what we were thinking BUT. The MPP pulls from generator power first Sooooo it will try and power the air fryer from generator while the generator is powering the A/C because it won't know the generator is also running the A/C.

Talked with the wife and she was like. we just won't run the airfryer and A/C at same time. Problem solved lol
 
If you still want to do both, you could put a switch or a breaker in front of the inverter.
 
I hadn’t considered any of this. I’m just running a 5000 btu a/c unit on the cargo trailer, so I might be in better shape. Got a digital copy of the manual out of the deal. Thanks.
