Get ready for the Price increase

I did 5 years to get my degrees as an EE and CE. My total student loan debt was about $15K. My old man plus my odd jobs covered all the other expenses. Today it seems like most kids are left with about $200K or more in loan debt.

Due to government backed student loans.

Funny. I always wondered about surviving after SHTF. Seems these days we are all waiting for the hammer to drop. Crazy times. I picture myself on the high seas away from everyone, sailboat wind power, watermaker, and lots of fish. Maybe a ball named Wilson. But I hate eating fish, so that sucks, but I dont have a cabin, and live near NYC, so I guess I am screwed.

Apparently it is always 30 years in the future (like fusion energy). Friends parents had a similar concern and moved to remote acreage.
But they had a good life there. Tried pet goats, but those always ate the vegetable garden, so got burros instead.

Japan would very likely step in with a West Taiwan vs Taiwan war, Japan hardcore spy's on china.

China is West Taiwan ;)
I think you are off base with that comment. Japan knows that china with out a buffer between them is only a two day sail for troop ships. biggest issue at the moment is if Biden will accept the bribe to let it happen or not.

No, it will not happen it's just saber rattling by China because so many companies have left China and gone to Taiwan.

Taiwan is no easy target to take over, all males over 18 years old must do two years of Military service. I am not sure if that has changed but it was like that the last time I checked. Also Taiwanese are some of the most disciplined and patriotic people in the world.

The second problem for China is that Taiwan is armed to the teeth with surface to air missile systems and coastal defense systems. They have been planning for this scenario for several decades. The third problem is that China has no real method of getting sufficient troops to Taiwan in a timely manor. I mean yeah they could try but its pretty easy to sink a container ship. Fourth is that the Chinese military has never won a war and their troops are renowned for fleeing when things get hairy.

The main reason it won't happen is because Taiwan has a shield against Invasion. It's called TSMC ;)
TSMC is the largest semiconductor company in the world and they make the most advanced chips in the world.
America may design an advanced chip but the only place on the planet that can build them is TSMC.
The US military heavily depends on TSMC for chips in almost all or our planes, ships and subs cutting edge technology. Simply put TSMC is considered an essential Asset of the highest magnitude, one that the US military will never let China have or destroy.

Let me put it to you this way. The last war China fought was in the Late 1970s against Vietnam. (Yes Vietnam!) During this Land locked battle the Chinese sent in over 600,000 troops and 7000 Tanks into Vietnam.
They timed this attack because the main Vietnames army was tied up fighting a major war in Cambodia
The Chinese were so poorly trained and had such little motivation that the Vietnamese reserve army where able to
drive back the Chinese in two weeks killing about 20,000 of them in the process.

Have you ever been to Taiwan?

My company manufacturers all parts in our facility in Taiwan. We are in the carbon fiber tubing business. By 'my company' I don't mean the company I work for, I mean the company that I hold the majority of shares in.

If you would actually know and talk to Taiwanese, those living in Taiwan, and I do exactly that every week, you would quickly understand that they EXPECT to be railed in any time soon.

China won't have to put any boots on the island, they can easily cut off any sea and air travel or force embargoes and tariffs on them. Also, China long expanded its military control in the South sea. They didn't build all those man-made islands for fun. China considers Taiwan to be a part of their republic ever since and Taiwan knows this.

China was a 3rd world shithole in the 70s. They long surpassed our economy. Totally different state.

I'll get out right in time. I won't lose a fight for those that kick freedom with their feet and I won't pay the high taxes to support a corrupted, socialistic system, or face the consequences resulting from underinformed or brainwashed voters. Not the first time for me, doing a big move.

There are countries in Europe that came out of the hellhole called socialism and are ready to start over with more civil rights, patriotism, less regulations and very low taxes. Some of them have 10% flat rate income tax. Since I hold the citizenship of a European Union country, I can travel / work / live freely in any of those without the need of any visas. South France, Spain and Greece are high on my list.

sorry as this is not germane to the conversation, but I was under the impression (possibly dated) that Greece was underwater in regards to government spending primarily on retirement funds. Am i misinformed?

I'd have my tax residency in a 10% income tax country while living in the South of Europe. Having to find work in Greece is indeed undesirable, and I don't have to, and they still do have certain issues, its a wonderful place to be. I'm into beaches and culinary culture, big time.

I live on the best beach in the US right now here in Florida, but Greece is still on another level.

This aint the 70's. And China knew the US would protect Taiwan. I dont think Biden scares them much.
The mentality of the people and the Miltary has not changed at all. The Chinese military may have more advanced weapons than they did in the 70s but that don't mean jack if your not willing to die for your country. Perfect example of this is what happened in Afghanistan.

Nope never been to Taiwan but I have been to China.
I know that the Taiwanese are expecting a Chinese invasion, they always are! That is why I said they have been preparing for decades. Cutting off the sea lanes from Taiwan is not even a possibility as they would then be confronting the US Navy and NATO head on.
You do know that most NATO countries also get their advanced military chips from Taiwan, so they have just as much at stake as the USA. Also the Chinese economy is in a fragile state and they simply cannot afford to be fighting a war with the countries that they depend on for income. Add into that they are surrounded by hostile countries on the same continent like India and Vietnam who would like nothing more than to see their downfall and you can see why warfare with Taiwan the USA, NATO and Japan is not really an option. It would soon escalate into a war on all fronts.

fortunately my cabin is really remote, and surrounded by deer, wild boar, pheasants and trout. I am well skilled with a crossbow and my Cabin is solar powered! so my freezers will remain full and on... at least till my LFP's die :( then I guess I will have to join the zombie apocolypse of people searching for 15 year old canned food...
That is why I don't subscribe to the whole prepping stuff for EOD. Your LFP's wont be your first problem, it will be something as simple as needing Antibiotics to stop a common infection. Ever take a look at the stats on why people in the old days died so young? One major killer was simple infections like a broken tooth causing a jaw bone infection. We take Antibiotics for granted but they are the simple item that saves millions of lives every year.

who says i don't have some antibiotics stashed? (joking) but I was having fun with the whole walking dead scenario and you are buzzkilling it... To be honest I would be dead in a year or two once I ran out my jardience prescription.

Maybe a good short term plan but if shtf you will find yourself with verystealthy more astute city preppers that will thin your ‘resources’ to nothing
We are long past where The Wilds were sufficient to feed the world

What in the wide wide world of sports does that have to do with the price of tea in China. Is gun ownership some sort of weird twisted filter for manliness or patriotism for you? Do you own a radiation heat transfer book?
I own 2 . Of each . ?

In a true EOD / SHTF situation only force multipliers like guns will keep you around. When food or drugs become scarce, humans stop being nice, let alone ask for things they want. Survival of the fittest, smartest, and best prepared will come to fruition. Fight or flight are the 2 only options remaining. And that's why I said that I will take the flight in time. If that situation ever develops in the US, there will be no win:win outcome possible, so the best plan is to not 'play' at all.
