I have received my order of 4 280Ah eve cells for Shenzen basen today, I have waited over 6 months for them to arrive as the first shipment didn't arrive.
I have opened to inspect them and noticed that the bottoms on them are either swollen or dented on the side.
I have only had chance to check basic voltage on the terminals so far, but they checked out ok.
Would you consider these batteries damaged or ok to use?

I would not use these batteries except in isolated battery box. I would expect replacement or full refund if I received such cells.

I would cry a bit and then assemble them and put them to work. Might narrow the capacity range with voltage and check for heat during any high rate charge or discharge.

That was my initial thoughts tbh. They are for my Campervan which I'm not willing to take any chances with.

How was the packaging?
Box not showing any major signs of damage ie, no holes but does perhaps look like it could have had a dropped at some point as it looks rounded at the bottom. it was well packed inside with a good layer of foam, but clearly not enough.

They are purchased to be used in my Campervan so I don't like the idea of using them if there is even a slight risk of incident.

Oh NO! I ordered the 304Ah Eve cells from the same mob only a month ago. I'm still waiting (of course). I can't say that I'm looking forward to the delivery after seeing those pics. If it were me (hopefully not) I would not use them. Did the product page say "New" or "Grade A"? If so, you should be entitled to your money back. Those cells are neither, irrespective of whether the capacity checks out or not.

I ordered back in April and the first shipment just vanished, these replacements were first sent to the Netherlands, then into the UK to Scotland then back down the country to me in the Midlands, they have a had quite a journey, no surprise they are damaged.

The order does state Grade A Brand are cells.

I am gutted after waiting 6 months

I feel your pain, bro. So, what will you do? Have you contacted Shenzen Basen about this yet?

I have messaged seller, but no response yet due to time difference, I do have a dispute open with alibaba due to the batteries taking so long and tracking stopping working on the first set of batteries, so I could also put pictures into the dispute and see what they say, but I think I will await to see seller response first. Hopefully the seller agrees they are damaged.

That damage is from being dropped.

I would exhaust the claims process with the seller first and if that doesn't provide a resolution I would check with the manufacturer to see what concerns they would have for cells that have been dropped.

If the manufacturer has no concerns, and they aren't leaking, and they pass a capacity and heavy discharge/charge test, I would use them.

Just wondering if you have heard back from the seller yet?
your timing is impeccable!

I had an initial response 2 days ago but nothing since, so I messaged about 20 minutes ago.

He has asked about voltages, to which I have said they are fine, but I am unwilling to test or charge them due to the swelling/damage.
He has said they will be ok to use, I have said I am not willing to risk it as they are damaged...

Thats where I'm at right now.

Why don't you take a picture of the swollen cells in a similar angle to how they have their cells pictured on the Alibaba website, combine the two images, so they are shown in one picture side-by-side, and then ask them to spot the difference?

Using pictures of perfect looking cells and then delivering grade 'B' or damaged cells, is totally unacceptable and misleading. After all, you wouldn't have bought those cells if the pictures shown on the Alibaba website were like the ones you took, right?

Just don't give in, no matter what they say. Keep hammering the point that you have received unusable cells that are also considered dangerous. I wouldn't use them, and I guess most people on this forum wouldn't use them either. And let them know how you feel about the whole situation... that would be my advice. That's what I would do.

At least ask for maybe 20% refund (or more) to compensate for expected shortened life. Otherwise it could be a dead end.
The seller probably should make a claim with the shipper but that may not work either and the seller knows it.

How did you pay for these batteries? If you paid with credit card, I would go right to chargeback unless you are okay with small refund from alibaba. If they ask you to ship them back, I would reply that it is unsafe to ship damaged batteries. Ideally, you would have had communication with seller ahead of time about resolution if you received damaged cells...

I made a video of the problem I had with 3 of my cells. Then I posted it on youtube. After this and telling them I am a member of this forum. They [XUBA] went from denying any problem to sending the new ones right away.
You can see the little videos on my channel as they are still there.

Maybe this info will be of help to someone here I hope. :)

EDIT: I did this after fighting with them to honour their warranty for over 2 months. So it was not right away.
Had to clarify this.

I have messaged seller again this morning, Stating that I paid for Grade A new cells, but that is not what I have received. I made him aware that the batteries are to go into my expensive motorhome that transports and sleeps me and my family around in, and that I am no willing to using the damaged batteries and risk either my family or motorhome. I asked what his plans are to rectify this situation.
He has replied that he is applying for company compensation! I'm not sure what that means right now, I would like to just get a refund at this point and order from somewhere else. I have ordered 6 orders from AliExpress and received them within days/weeks with no problems compared to this order from alibaba.

Paid by credit card, so at least I knew I had a little protection, ill await his response to what he has said today, if I haven't had a resolution by Friday ill contact credit card company.

If a single cell reaches 4.2V, that doesn't neccesary mean the cell is bad.

First of all, it clearly indicates your BMS has failed and you have overcharged the cell. Thats nothing the seller of the cells can be blamed for.

If it IS a runner, the BMS should have avoided this. Once thats done, you need to do a capacity test. That would indicate whether the cell is bad (it shouldn't reach its rated capacity)
