Water pump for cabin

really don't want to live again without hot running water.
Agreed.

When I started my camper-to-not-pay-rent venture a water heater and pump were priority one. I went a few days heating water before stuff was installed and functional. The solar was secondary - it was just the simplest longest-lasting (and least costly with a long-view perspective) solution for light and running water.

A hot shower once a day- or sometimes twice!- is an absolute necessity. Everything else can be worked around.

I run my harvested rainwater through a Rusco spin down 100 mesh, through the two seaflow pumps, then through a whole house sediment filter @ 10 microns, then through a .5 micron charcoal filter then through a UV light.

No digestive tract issues or blindness yet. Anyone else catching rainwater?

I bought 2, just in case.
230 feet of lift for $105?!! Darn tootin’

I often prefer an economical product with a spare over an unaffordable item that I can’t immediately afford and have no backup.

It says it can do 100’ submersed at 2gal/min so a reservoir tank makes sense

I have a 250 gallon tank on a trailer that I use summers. I do add measured bleach to the tank. Usually spring or well water. The tank grows things in the sun otherwise.

Summer before last I rigged a plastic bin and some square footage of catchment for rainwater. Although it got ‘close’ a couple of times when it rained I could collect a week or so of water. I didn’t tow to the spring with the tank once for almost three months. It didn’t get full sun and bleach was not used. My only filter was cotton tshirt material over a funnel to get rid of insects and tree debris.

Showering in rainwater feels awesome to my skin. (psoriasis)

Very cool!

After cabin time, I am always shocked at how much chlorine smell and taste there is in municipal water.

That rainwater thing was just so I didn’t have to chase water. It worked so well in volume and quality I’m inclined to incorporate collecting rainwater when I build. I won’t “need” to but why not? :)

Ooops. Sorry, wrong link

… Not the exact same one tho…. My is complete stainless and the lift is 300 ft.

Anyone just plopped one of these in their above ground tank and just used it in combo with a pressure tank/switch?

That would be nice I think. No pulsing diaphragm Pump to listen to.

If money is no object.

We have a couple of these laying around work. They were used for a short time at stand alone handwashing stations that were built to comply with covid protocols. I will be replacing my 12v pumps with one of these units in the spring.

They are the bees knees.

agreed…. You can always find a tree for the rest of your « needs »
A lot of people don't know you don't need running water to flush a toilet. A bucket will work. Just start pouring a 3-5 gallon bucket of water into the bowl after finishing your business, and the water's pressure will activate the siphioning effect to cycle the toilet. Just keep pouring a bit more water after your "stuff" disappears, so the atmospheric barrier is maintained.

Or into the tank

Hi Guys, I'm looking for some ideas on pumping water throughout my cabin.
I am currently using a 12v ShurFlow Pump. I am converting my system to 24v, buying a larger battery bank, Larger inverter.
Question, are we talking about a well or surface water?
I'm curious if anyone has found a good 24 volt pump for surface water pumping. I need to move some captured water through solar panels and then back into barrels in a greenhouse.
Anyone else catching rainwater?
I'm waiting on parts; parts of me to work better. I do have most of the pieces for the system though.

would not mind doing a rain catchment as a back up and for the garden, but for drinking as long as the community deep well works I will stick with that. If the SHTF I would be out of luck though.

Funny as a kid in rural Indiana we had a dug well that was about 30' deep and then a cistern that held about 4k gallons and was filled with rainwater from the house gutters and the barn gutters. Sometimes had to buy water form the closest city and haul in the middle of summer as the cistern would run dry.

the house was set up with two separate water systems, the water from the well came into the kitchen only and everything else was off of the cistern. we were not supposed to drink it as it was not treated just ran through a gravel/sand/charcoal filter but we did it all the time. drank out of the little creek close to the house as well. never got sick as we were always self inoculating as kids.

We have a gulper pump & a fresh water pump both running off 24V from a cheap eBay DC-DC converter from the main 48V battery pack.
There was an issue with the starting surge occasionally tripping the MCB that powers the DC-DC converter. This has been cured by adding a large 300uf Electric Motor Start Capacitor to the 24V line.

On a separate note, the DC-DC converter seems to have a fairly heavy stand-by drain & is very warm when the pumps are not being used. We're looking at using a separate DC-DC regulator for each pump & putting them 'downstream' of the flow switch (probably adding a separate flow switch), so that they aren't on all the time.
