Titan Solar Generator 1.5 year update and review

I think I am going Titan. It looks like the self consumption is super low compared to others. If I run it 5 years then replace batteries I'd be good. Who knows How advanced they'll be by then.

And it uses more of the battery it has - they say 97% - so it's got more capacity. I was a little disappointed the AC200P does not use more of the battery they claim, and by the time it supports itself, 2000 Wh is more like 1500 Wh.

That’s what we found in every other solar unit with a decent size inverter was standby usage, parasitic inverter drain, etc. was between 30-50w/hr. I have no idea what the new stuff does though to be honest. With the Titan AC inverter sipping power at 15w/hr it was really the only option for us since it needed to sometimes go days without solar during the winter and the cabin is a 1.5 hour trip from our house and a 30 minute boat ride. We needed something absolutely fool proof and the Titan has been it for us! The new EcoFlow Delta Pro and the AC300 certainly compare but I just can’t get away from the customer service from Point Zero energy.

For example Chase is the guy that helped us last year when the AC inverter went out and he was immediate in his responsiveness over email and phone calls. Then, this last week, when I sent customer service an email about our AC charger occasionally blowing fuses Chase was the same guy to respond to that e-mail. Sent the email on a Saturday and they had a new AC charger sent off by Monday through FedEx with no cost to us. Idk but I’m sold and will just enjoy our Titan setup until the 2.0 is released then may consider upgrading. I have no doubt we will see many many more years out of our current setup though!

I think I'm in the same boat as you. Im probably going to order in the morning with a total of 3 batteries and the 25A charger instead of the 14A one.

Where are you going to order from....Point Zero or another authorized seller like Powered Portable Solar?

I will tell y’all that I ordered through Ben at Powered Portable Solar because I watched a bunch of his YouTube videos on the Titan and I figured it was worth purchasing through him since he was so instrumental in my decision making I felt like he deserved the small commission. I don’t think that there was any significant difference in purchasing from him versus through the Point Zero Energy website and certainly it didn’t change anything about the customer service I’ve received since the purchase. Ben was just an additional bonus because he didn’t seem to mind answering a bunch of my stupid questions along the way!

I’ve tied for days to call PPS, left a message, sent an email all to no avail, on the other hand no problem with getting thru to PZE!

I would definitely go with whoever you have had the best responses from. In my opinion you can't go wrong purchasing directly from the manufacturer. At the time of my purchase Ben was very active and responsive but that was almost 2 years ago.

I e-mailed and left a message at Powered Portable - no response. Point Zero got back to me same day, so I'd just order direct.

Couple more questions before I order:

1. Even with the NMC style batteries (I keep hearing the Iron Phosphate is much safer) - it's OK to run this unit all the time?

2. I have my panels all set and they have MC4 connectors. Does the unit come with everything needed to connect?

3. How many batteries can you stack at once with one unit?

I am leaning Titan over Delta Pro or AC300 even though it's got older battery technology, because it's overhead draw is so much lower, and you can use more of the battery, giving it more capacity.

Thanks!

1. Correct, it is safer from what I understand. From what I understand this unit is designed to run 24/7. Ben from Powered Portable Solar talks about running in his cabin full time.

2. Yes, according to the PZE web site.

What's Included

  • (1) Titan solar generator (Power module and one battery)
  • (1) MC4 to SAE (for jump starting with a solar panel)
  • (2) MC4 to anderson adapter (for solar panels) *****************FOR YOUR MC4 CONNECTORS
  • Ac Charger or chargers depending on options******************(Im UPGRADING TO THE 25A CHARGER)
  • (1) Manual
3. From what I understand up to 96 batteries....I don't think that's safe or practical I would say 6-8 batteries would be my max.

Battery type is the one thing really having me pause - I am not sure I want a NMC batter running all the time in my basement.

The only pause to me it longevity, not safety. These batteries are the same type in your pocket with a cellphone.
Are you now going with Bluetti?

1. Yes we have been running it constantly since our install over a year ago and plan on having it in daily use for years to come.

2. Yes mc4 connector ready for solar input

3. I think they said realistically connecting 6-8 batteries max because of the limitation of being able to charge them up with the 2000w max solar input.

We currently have 2 batteries and are adding 2 more so our standby time will be doubled. We struggled a few times over the past two winters with extended overcast days. I’m also going to optimize our solar panel angle and may add 500 more watts of solar to give is the 2000w max input.

We currently have AC200P's and they run really well - just too small of battery. I really pause on the AC200MAX as the expansion batteries don't turn on automatically if they go to zero. The AC300 looks like a good unit, but sounds like bigger overhead energy usage, and seems to be some "issues" that need working out.

If you rant the Titan batteries every day full usage it looks like you would still get 5 years out of them??? And I really like that you could replace batteries as they wear out or there is new technology, yet keep the main unit. It's hard not to like the Titan. And their support and communication so far has been WAY BETTER than Bluetti or Ecoflow. I think I have gotten 4-5 responses from Point Zero Energy - while I am still waiting to hear anything from the others.

The only thing I am really tempted by is the Delta Pro - as if we got two of them eventually we could run our 230V well pump.

Just seen the spec sheet on the expansion port of the Titan,: Notice you can add LiFePo4 batteries

Do a search for for more information: pointzeroenergy best-solar-generator

Expansion (battery): Yes, lithium ion, LiFePo4, or any deep cycle AGM battery.

I dont like charging LiFePo4 to 29.4 , in fact I would only want to charge them to around 28 volts for longevity

Battery life is 2000 cycles but not sure exactly when the degradation begins. I do know that the Titan batteries are underrated regarding capacity. The discharge capacity is closer to 2100-2200w capacity per battery. I think Point Zero figured that into the 10 years. I think in 10-15 years the new tech is gonna so significantly outperform anything on the market is not even going to be a factor in long term decisions for most people.

For us, the Titan is an absolute beast with regards to performance, output and customer service! I will gladly recommend them to anyone. My understanding is the Titan 2.0 is gonna be amazing with regards to the bells and whistles regarding new tech but it’s still prototype and not sure if it will make it to market anytime soon. If and when it does we will strongly consider an upgrade!
That point - the batteries are under-rated, compared to the others were basically the batteries are over rated. Say on the others you can only use 80-90% of the battery. That makes an even bigger spread.

That's right.

Just now (03-07-22) placed my order through Point Zero Energy.
