EG4 48v 25a Battery Charger Update

Hey Robby, are you able to get max output from the Meanwell 1600? The derate curve (attached) on that model's spec sheet suggests it'll only put out its rated power when fed 230 VAC.

On 115 VAC, it looks like the Meanwell 1600 will produce 75-80% of rated power. What's your experience?View attachment 94533
I got a bit more current than the specifications, Very happy with it.

Thanks for the feedback. That's great to hear.

I wonder what's up with that derating curve, then...
Dunno why they derate it so much. When I used 120V I was getting about 23A which was a lot more then I expected based on the charts. I charged 2x 5.1KWh batteries up from 40% to 100% with it. I was really worried about it overheating but there was no issues, it ran as cool as one could expect. I could try 220V with the mains but my tiny generator is 120V only and I wanted to see how that worked. It would be my Hurricane backup plan for having power at night without having to run the Genny at night. Assumption being the PV is out of commission.

23 A output... assuming the default 27.5 A CC target, 23 A is about what the derate curve would suggest, at 120 VAC. Unless I'm misunderstanding?

I thought I read that it would put out 20A on 120Vac and 27.5A on 220Vac. It's been almost a year so maybe I got it wrong. I do know that when I tested it I was pleased that I got 23A.

my eg4 48v "25a" charger no longer has CC/CV current sensoring logic. It just keeps going... 3.66v I turn off

It's been my experience that if you cannot fix it right away then label the hell out of it or just dump it.
I had a Wall Wart that was 12V rated but it was putting out 18Vdc. It burned out one device and then instead of just dumping it I put it in a drawer. About 6 months later I took it out to use it on another device and completely forgot about the issue and of course it burned that one out also.?

Hey everyone: Just to clarify, because the email going out has confused a few people and maybe the wording could have been more clear. The email sent out was in addition to what was stated earlier - we have added another option.
YOUR OPTIONS:
1. Return the charger. We will pay shipping and refund the original charge of the charger back to you.
2. Keep the charger. We will offer a STORE CREDIT for the difference in cost between a 25a charger and 18a charger, PLUS an additional $50.
3. Keep the charger. We will offer a REFUND for the difference in cost between a 25a charger and 18a charger. NO ADDITIONAL CREDIT.

Hope this clarifies the options.
Concerning option #2, if you purchased multiple chargers do you get a $50 credit for each charger or does the one credit cover all the chargers?

Was there ever any chargers that put out 25 amps as advertised ? Is there a way to verify what amp charger someone has without having a complete solar system set up? SS is asking for pic of S/N so what lots or purchase dates are affected? I’d like to know which amp charger I have before making a decision.
Oh and I have 2 different s/n one on box and one on charger. :(
Thanks,
Doug

Anyone have any input on this?

None of the SS chargers did 25A. They tried to play it off as a "receiving a bad batch", but they forgot the included manual had the correct AMP specifications.

Wondering how I received a charger with one serial number and a box with a different s/n. Probably don’t want to know.
