EVE identifies Grade B cells using new marking Method [Reposting from General]

Yeah not much of a concern if it pulls full capacity. However the cell quality can be very different compared to Automotive grade tested cells. It just depends on luck also. And the cells we get are always 1-3yrs old (may not be used but not new stock). So it is a gamble, but for Solar DIY projects with low C rates, it is probably fine.

Real grade A cells from EVE will accompany with factory test reports as given below and will be fully matched. The report has 3 IR values and Tested Capacity.

You can get these Automotive Grade A Cells with test report from EVE directly or SunFunKits.

I was interested if EVE has started marking their Cells that fail the grade A test because now it will be easy for us to identify. According to one of my supplier they have started marking recently, but others have not said anything. Have to just wait and see.

If EVE really does it then it will be very interesting for the market because, suppliers cannot simply tell their cells to be Grade A, like they do all the time now if the QR is intact.

What's to stop them from making up FAKE QR codes like they are doing with CATL cells, in this case they just put the QR code on the lower right instead of next to the vent which they cover up.

The Shenzen Cartels will figure out a way!

If the QR code is in the wrong place thats a dead giveaway its a bunk QR code? Also the real manufacturer QR codes are etched into the metal of the case, it is impossible to eliminate them? And if scratched off/covered somehow, thats also a dead giveaway the vendor is being shady?

There is "nothing to stop them" from doing all kinds of shit, just like ppl selling bloated used cells as grade A. But as consumers we can at least educate ourselves on what it is we are trying to buy, and flagging vendors who are pulling shady shit, no?

Man I think they are going to like CNC machine the top few layers off and re-laser it. lol... I hope I didn't give them some new ideas

Yesterday I got a new information from my supplier. I was supposed to order EVE LF230 (230Ah) cells from them. But it seems there has been a change on how EVE is sending out rejected cells (Tested to be lower than Automotive Grade) for auction to the Chinese market (grey). According to the new information EVE has started marking the letter "B" on the QR code of LF230 and LF280K cells that were being auctioned. I have attached the pictures below.

It looks like they have also scratched off the serial number part. However the production date code is still intact, which is good for us. CATL has been scratching off the entire QR codes on their Grade B cells, but I think this is a new step from EVE.

If anyone has got this new info, please share. We need confirmation if this is going to be the standard going forward.

P.S. If EVE is really taking this step, then we will see huge changes in the market, as all of the cells that we get are these rejected cells that are being auctioned off at a much lower price. But all of the sellers claim these cells to be Grade A and are selling at a huge profit margin. However most of these unused cells will pass our capacity test and is still suitable for Solar ESS, so we really cannot complain. We will have to see how they handle this new marking of the reject cells. Note that there are a few legitimate Grade A suppliers like SunFunKits or buying directly from EVE Energy Co. As far as I know, all the other suppliers send us these non-automotive Grade B cells.
Well, Amy sells true grade A cells complete with test reports from EVE. Now that the vendor forums are gone, it does make it more difficult to figure out which ones do. You certainly pay more, and generally speaking, for solar storage without high C rates, the grade B cells provide more value for money. If EVE is making this change, it will certainly be good news for consumers who bother to research.

Yes, Amy sends me these reports from EVE, so I've been paying extra for it. Not because I need automotive grade cells, but because I don't want to be paying and waiting for garbage. Prices have really shot up along with the commodity price for Lithium.

I haven't bought any cells from SunFunKits, but I can really recommend their products (since I've bought pretty much everything else). Yes, you again pay extra, but a nice case set up in sizes you can actually lift is very nice.

It can be erased by laser, then laser new code. Someone did this:

Honestly, years ago I stopped trying to figure out what they do over there. You might be dealing with EVE, you might be dealing with someone who is a liquidator for EVE or it could be the CEO's pet company and he is running a sideline business. Any of them using the real companies address and credentials.. None of the above would be unusual in China.
The mistake westerners make is that there is Black and White and shades of Grey when doing business in China. The reality is it is all Shades of grey and then occasionally you get someone doing some Black stuff and that typically ends with them being executed or doing a lifetime jail sentence.
Most of the Grey stuff they do would land you in jail for a lengthy time in the US and EU but in China it's just considered common business practices.
As I said in another post, China is one big Ferenginar and once you understand that you stop using western logic and use the greed philosophy instead.

My greed philosophy is to buy grade A cells with grade B prices.

Why buy an f150 when you can buy a maverick and it suits your needs just as well?

Well Not fool proof if you look at the QR code the background clearly is different the the rest of the cell, so I'm sure it could be detected.

The proper way would be to machine the top layer of the cell, get it even and then qr code.

Wait... WHAT THE HELL AM I SAYING?

IGNORE THIS IDEA Grade B Sellers it is :poop:!

Do you know who did this?

Do you know who did this?
Engraving lasers for etching metal is not uncommon. Does it matter who did it if nearly any vendor can print a barcode? Probably the same place that laser welds terminals will soon be set up to do it.

Not enough "meat" as the shell is too thin and not level enough for machining. But you can polish off the engraving with minimal material removal. Then no-one will tell the difference by visual inspection.

Any follow up on EV cell Grade B current marking effort ?

Cells made after march 2022 have B on them, cells before this date will not. I suspect Old grade B that did not have B on them will go for more $$$.

Liars club game for sure. And gullible buyers, looking for 'cheap' Automotive Grade cells.
And this labeling is for one cell manufacturer, one type of cell. EV Prismatic cells. Good start to promoting truth however. I like it.
