In this video I show how I keep my off grid solar shed connected to the Internet using a WiFi cellular router connected to LTE for high speed connection to the web. Together, we explore the devices used in the solar shed to keep things online for monitoring and remote access. If you want to maintain connectivity to the internet with your off grid solar applications, you will want to watch this entire video. The video is 13:57 in length.

Useful subject and cool project, thanks for sharing.

And pardon my ignorance but with the SIM card for the shed setup, does the shed need it's own cellular plan with a provider?

Great video as usual!

Can you connect to the router through SSH with verizon does it have an ip address? Or do all of your apps have some sort of cloud server they are working with.

I have a MIFI which suffers from the connectivity issues you stated but also I can not connect directly to it from my house so I can not access my devices in my cabin from my house without going through some 3rd party server like Ring or Blink for my cameras.

VPN between a device in your cabin and at home.

a raspi in the cabin would do the job and give you I/O ports to monitor temp/moisture and such.

I use a cheap VPS as my endpoint, because I like to tunnel some filesharing traffic out also.

Ok so how would this work. Pi would connect to vpn on my home server then I would have 2 way communications. I have used reverse SSH the problem was keeping a persistent connection. If either end reboots. Thanks for helping

if you're already using ssh you're ahead of the game, you might be hitting a wall with the keepalives since SSH is not really ment to stay active 24/7. many VPN solutions will automatically reconnect.

are you using autossh? with a quick google everyone is saying that's helped them.

I don't have any experience with it. I've kinda fell off of the tech game for a while now, doing just enough to keep my 32TB NAS stable and safe.

The problem is Verizon hot spots do not have a fixed Ip so even if I can see the ip from my remote computer I can get back to it. I was hoping this router would help. Since we talked I found out that I may be able to have verizon make the sim card have fixed IP that can be accessed via WAN

A (ugly) hack would be to scan the IP range and use the MAC address (this one will not change) to identify the device and then have the new IP. Not great but if it can help...
