Update, we bought nine (9) EG4 LL-S 48V 100Ah lithium Server Rack batteries yesterday from Emily at Signature Solar, she was great making a package deal of two server racks on wheels with six slots, one server rack completely filled with 6 batteries, and the 2nd one half filled with 3 batteries...
Yes everyone loves Victron, I understand its a quality product. But Victron doesn't sell a 48V lithium battery, I'd have to string together 4 12V lithium batteries with Victron, so instead we bought the EG4 batteries that weigh 100 lbs, my weight limit. And with EG4 batteries, I've become...
Yes! The race is more like Aug 23. I have ridden my bike up that race course to top of Pikes Peak, from our house! My husband has raced up Pikes Peak in the Ascent, and the next day Marathon up and down! While I hang out at the aid station. We hear the hill climb and have a party that day...
Yes we've never done it before, usually always take it outside, and our garage is wide open big and tall ceilings, has multiple doors and windows for cross ventilation, and mech room between the main house, so we always entered from the already open outside (not the mech room) so as not to...
Good point, as long as you know, you can start timer on phone upstairs, and then if inverter doesn't come on in 4min30sec, then start heading downstairs to the mechanical room. Yes, we have shunt reading upstairs on the wall so can see voltage drop when we turn on microwave or pump, so we are...
Now in case of supply chain issues. 13 years ago our batteries came in first, and then there was a long lag for our solar panels because we had to build 2 huge steel pedestals, so we had to charge the batteries with generator before we had solar panels hooked up, yuck.
Interesting. Do you like it? Can you unplug it and store it in your garage when you want more cargo space in your trunk? Can you disconnect the cable from the traction battery easily from trunk components, and hopefully have a disconnect switch for safety?
Thanks. I spoke to owner and yes you can unplug it and store it in your garage when you want more cargo space in your trunk. Good reasons to buy from him and have local shop install it is the dealership can't void my warranty for being installed incorrectly.
Victron is pretty blue... is $15k worth of fun crimping and perfection madness? Or can it do some backflips I don't know about? I bet the software interface or app is not as easy as EG4?
Hi, this is my 1st post, thanks Will for excellent videos over the past year! We've lived off grid at mountain house for 13 years on 3.6kW Outback inverter (VFX3648 Outback Inverter), 48V lead acid batteries (qty 16 all 6 volt 370Ahin 8 in series to make 48V string x 2 strings parallel 48V) and...
Thanks. Yes we'll replace our existing lead acid batteries with lithium, maybe six EG4 LLs in a rack or Trophy? Our mechanical room is heated with propane so for 13 years we've never had a problem with our lead acid batteries. However, if the propane system went down it'd be bad, so considering...
Interesting setup, hope it lasts a good long while for you! Yes, V doesn't require V batteries understand. I called a local, Victron supplier, and they barely wanted to suggest a Victron Quattro II inverter to be semi-comparable to EG4 6000XP. They said the Quattro II is 230V European voltage so...
Thanks! It's only money. But its also frustration if we buy a system with one or two pain points that get fixed in the next update 2 months after we buy ours... the story of life hehe.
Great, where will you post your reviews of the Victron you are testing? Seems like EG4 has fixed a lot of what is wrong with the 6500EX by releasing the 6000XP. Although with the 6000XP, seems folks wish they had an additional phone app screen to see both 120v sides at the same time, and total...
Aptera is better set up for wind resistance, plus you can car camp and sleep in Aptera. However, in my Prius Prime I could lay my portable 200W bluetti foldable solar panel INSIDE the glass hatchback of my car, to charge now today to my Bluetti AC180, not fully practical, but I wish my prius...
Batteries read 43.5 volts last night on our 48V system, shuts off at 42v per spec, ouch, help we've lived off grid a mile from nearest public utility for over 13 years, we might need new batteries now instead of waiting until summer !! Husband dragged the gas generator outside last night in 14"...
Yes, Colorado Springs Utilities has Net Metering and Time Of Day (TOD):
Non-summer (Oct.-May) on-peak, 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Summer (June-Sept.) on-peak, 4 p.m. – 8 p.m.
Off-peak hours are all other times as well as the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day...
420W total portable solar panels, would need new ones on roof (or good used ones).
At the city house I don't have solar panels on roof but have open no shade southwestern roof slope. I'd consider putting many panels on southwest face, which is almost exact 45 degree angle. I also have 200W...
How about this aftermarket company from Austin Texas making them for Teslas because of high quantity, but also has non-tesla generic universal version that'll clip onto most cars. Mentions playing with different integrations y splitter, overland kit, dealing with overcharging, within warranty...
probably, but great when sitting in a sunny work parking lot for 8-12 hours, not everyone gets to park in a parking structure. Aptera needs to put the PV under glass, a highly manufactured process, would be cool to finally see them in production.
I don't think my other reply went under this one so please scroll for my 3 replies to you, sorry, 1st day getting used to forum GUI. But perhaps I'd install other systems that grow on dependence of batteries, unsure, like a heat pump water heater when my natural gas water heater fails, or maybe...
Yes, thanks for reminder that lithium can be discharged below zero F, they just cannot be charged. Yes we'll keep our propane heat in mechanical room the same as it has been for last 13 years, no change needed. Was just thinking if something catastrophic happened to the propane heat (highly...
Turns out heat pads on amazon are for car batteries. I swear 2 months ago I saw folks using them in their house batteries of their RVs/camper vans, anyone know which product they are using?
Yes! Do you know of a good diagram or YouTube, or thread in this forum for how to DIY? I saw a YouTube of a California guy running his SubZero refrigerator because his plug was stuck behind built in cabinetry, with his Prius Prime to panel in garage that ran SELECTED emergency circuits only. I...
Does this happen more often with AC charging from utility power? Or AC charging from a 240v gas generator? Or AC charging from a 120V gas generator? And when it happens with PV array only, is it because of imbalances coming from different amp reading coming in on different MPPTs which is...
Yes here's 14 video suggestions, following! We're buying a 6000XP from Emily at Signature Solar in a few months, just bought 9 EG4 LL-S 48V 100Ah lithium batteries yesterday from her. We'd love to see these videos: 1) One 6000XP installed in your workshop, and what capacity you can run until...
