  • Post in thread: Victron charger idle mode?

Thanks guys. Bottom line it will work. I’ll just need to do some more learning on bulk, float etc. I have a time remembering all that. Plus the fear of screwing something up.

  • Post in thread: Multimeter and charge controller show different voltage

It’s going to be used sparingly for back during power outages.
  • Post in thread: 12v vs 24v with 1 or 2 panels

12v on the battery. This much I do know at least. 😂😂 I have a 75/15 victron.
  • Post in thread: Odd back up system

Dang that’s perfect! I’ve already got an inverter. All I would need then is the batteries and a charger. An automatic battery tender would probably be better of some sort.
  • Post in thread: Jackery and Oversized Panels

So I’m getting a Jackery 300 to run a Iceco fridge and some lights while camping. I know it has a max input but my question is if I use a panel/panels that provide more power than it can accept under the VOC rating would that be a problem? I want to oversize the panel in case I’ve got less than...

  • Post in thread: Victron charger idle mode?

Yeah I was looking at getting the 30A. Will it do this automatically or do I have to configure it?
  • Post in thread: Multimeter and charge controller show different voltage

I appreciate the explanation. Thank you I have been doing a bunch of other research and some of what I’ve come across says 14.2 can lead to a little less capacity but more lifetime cycles. If that’s true, I like the sound of that. Unless there is a drawback I haven’t come across
  • Post in thread: Inverter recommendations needed

My other reason for the 240 output was it could be wired into my generator feed circuit in my panel. I have back fed a few of my 120 circuits with a very small solar generator which worked fine but some won’t work even though I was drawing hardly anything. I have a feeling some of the breakers...
  • Post in thread: Multimeter and charge controller show different voltage

Definitely new to this whole world but want to be sure I’m not damaging anything. Just received a 75/15 victron charge controller and a 200ah Lifepo4 battery. Got it all hooked up and slowly charging it with a 200 watt panel. Currently at the battery terminals with a multimeter it reads 13.50...
  • Post in thread: 12v vs 24v with 1 or 2 panels

Ok this may be very trivial but instead of one 200 watt 12v panel would 2 100 watt panels in series for 24v be much better if the wire length to the controller was around 50-60’? Trying to learn some pros and cons. Thanks for your time.
  • Post in thread: 12v vs 24v with 1 or 2 panels

It’s to learn with for sure but it’s main purpose will be a power source for one small circuit in my house when power is out. Running my modem and what not. That way I can sit in the dark and mess around and yet I don’t have to fire up the genny.
  • Post in thread: Charge controller settings

So I tried searching online for exactly what the charge voltages should be for these batteries but I couldn’t find what I was looking for. There will be 6 of them connected in parallel to a Victron 75/15 controller. Any advice would be great. Thank you
  • Post in thread: Renogy inverter remote switch wiring

Alright, got a wiring question on my remote switch for my Renogy 700 watt inverter. What I want to do is add a relay to the remote switch when grid power goes down to turn on the inverter. Well the remote switch wire has 5 wires: black, blue, red, yellow and green. Any idea which one I...
  • Post in thread: Jackery slow charging?

I saw a review of the some of the smaller power generators and in particular that the Jackery charged quite a bit slower than the rest of the comparable sized generators. Was curious if this was still the case as the review was done a few years ago? If anyone has any opinions I’d be...

  • Post in thread: Growatt 10kW SPH 10000TL String sizing

Hoping someone can help me with the math and string with this inverter. So it’s has 3 MPPT’s and says 2 string per tracker. When utilizing 2 strings per tracker how do you design that? Would you have to add the VOC of each of those 2 strings together to make sure you don’t go over max...
  • Post in thread: Multimeter and charge controller show different voltage

At what voltage should I expect it to transition into absorption?
  • Post in thread: Charge controller and battery advice needed

So I scored some used battery’s from a company that changes these out after a certain time regardless of the use they get. Figured I could use them for a very small project. Question is this. Should I charge each one individually before connecting them in parallel? My other question is I’d...
  • Post in thread: Multimeter and charge controller show different voltage

I used the preset setting in the controller.
  • Post in thread: Growatt 10kW SPH 10000TL String sizing

Great that makes perfect sense, thank you! Now would I combine the wiring of those two strings at the PV panels, thus having 1 run to the inverter? Any other strings would then be connected to the one or both of the other MPPT’s, with all strings or incoming wattage to the MPPT’s not exceeding...
  • Post in thread: Multimeter and charge controller show different voltage

So which settings should I change cause in the user defined area it doesn’t give me any other parameters to alter than what I posted?
  • Post in thread: Growatt 10kW SPH 10000TL String sizing

Thanks again. Your explanation was easy to understand for a layman like myself, much appreciated.
  • Post in thread: Battery monitor

This may be a dumb question but if I had a battery monitor on a 100ah lead acid could I set that monitor to show full at 50ah or any value for that matter as to have a visual cue not to over discharge the battery?
  • Post in thread: Grid tie - export or import

Curious how others do it. If you have a grid tie system would you export as much energy as you can leaving your batteries topped off so your entire day is being exported? Or use your battery power in the evening/night and not exporting till batteries have charged the next day?
  • Post in thread: 12v vs 24v with 1 or 2 panels

    Thank you for the explanation.
  • Post in thread: Multimeter and charge controller show different voltage

No I haven’t. According to the battery manual it is shipped not at full charge. Initial voltage was 13.26. The controller has just always said “bulk” so I figured that it hadn’t finished its process.
  • Post in thread: Growatt 10kW SPH 10000TL String sizing

Makes sense, in my application it would be a ground mount all facing the same way, etc.
  • Post in thread: Odd back up system

Alright this might be an odd question but here goes. I’m looking to build a battery back up system to would provide power automatically to a fish tank when grid power goes down. Now I’m thinking that maybe a hybrid inverter would do that for me by using grid power when available but when the...
  • Post in thread: Multimeter and charge controller show different voltage

Heck I know it’s not getting but only a couple hours of full at best. Plus I’m in Michigan and some trees shade it. No loads at all hooked up yet. I’m not worried about how long it takes. Just learning the process and making sure I’m not doing something wrong.
  • Post in thread: Victron 75/15 specs

Forgive me as math isn’t my strong suit thus my question. So this may be very stupid. Reading the specs for the victron 75/15 charge controller I see the different in PV power from 12v to 24v jumps from 220w to 440w. But looking at 24v panels you’d easily have way to high of VOC trying to get...
  • Post in thread: Charge controller and battery advice needed

I should have said should I charge the individually first before hooking them up for the first time? Was thinking that if they were at different states of charges it could be an issue during initial hook up is all.
  • Post in thread: Odd back up system

Yes essentially but I haven’t come across any that will last long. $1000 unit with many 1500watt hours. That’s not too good in my opinion.
  • Post in thread: Charge controller and battery advice needed

    Thank you.

  • Post in thread: Inverter recommendations needed

So in my area I lose grid power fairly often. I have a backup generator (6600 watt) that will run my entire house no problem that’s wired directly into my panel with a safety lockout between it and the grid main breaker. But a lot of time I would rather not even fire it up. So I was thinking at...
  • Post in thread: Quality battery charger

Sorry if this is in the wrong category, wasn’t exactly sure where to post it but I’m looking for recommendations on a solid battery charger. There are so many out there it’s hard to know what’s a good one or not. Looking for something that can handle most types of battery’s. 12/24 volt. And...
  • Post in thread: Solenoid switch

I recently bought a small 15a auto transfer switch. The switch plugs into grid power and also my inverter. When grid power goes down it switches to use power from the batteries and inverter. Of course while grid power is up and inverter is in standby/idle mode the inverter is still drawing a...
  • Post in thread: Victron charger idle mode?

During a power outage I’d like to use a victron charger while my generator is running to top off my battery. Where my setup is located I’d rather just leave the charger plugged in all the time. Is there a setting that I can change so that after top off it basically sits idle till next time it’s...

  • Post in thread: Inverter recommendations needed

I totally understand what your saying and agree. I guess what I was more so trying to learn and plan was do I need an off grid/on grid/ hybrid inverter? I’m assuming a split phase would be needed. Also to your point of sizing, yes I would plan that out way more. In my case I wouldn’t be...
  • Post in thread: Charge controller and battery advice needed

Please correct me if I’m wrong but don’t you take the watts/VMP of the solar panel to find the amps? Which would works out to be 10ish. So assuming this is correct then the 75/15 controller would be fine for the 200 watt panel but doesn’t give me an room for expansion.
  • Post in thread: Inverter recommendations needed

I actually have a call into power company to have a net metering/buyback program as that would probably change how I set this up. My thought for simplicity even if the inverter was a bit more expensive was to have its output 220. Even though I doubt I’ll ever use it to try and power any of my...
  • Post in thread: Solenoid switch

Interesting. Didn’t even think of putting something on power switch. Would you have a recommendation on a specific relay? I don’t know jack about them.
