Heading down to install my off-grid solar power system this morning.
Actually it's technically two separate systems: one on the main house and one on the garage/studio space.
Panels were installed a month ago:
5 x LG395Q1C-A6 panels on the studio and 20 x LG395Q1C-A6 panels in two 10 panel...
I powered down the system, shut off the breakers on the batteries and then turned them back on and everything has been ok since. Not sure if this is the real way to fix it, but its worked for me.
Got the “no AC” thing rectified by just switching the default setting. Thanks!
The bat com failure was my bad in making the wrong pinout on a custom cable.
All is well! Thanks everyone!
Random question to pose here to see if anyone can explain or has had a similar experience.
On my EG4 6000ex unit I had been pulling quite a bit of wattage from just idle consumption. I know that unit has a pretty high idle consumption but it seemed excessive even to knowing that.
One thing I...
UPDATE!
Just got back. Did not finish the entire job but made a ton of progress. I have attached a couple photos (not sure why they got rotated when I uploaded them).
Ran 10 gauge PV wire for all my panels to the homer, got the PV isolators in, hooked up all my AC lines.
Will finish the job at...
They do, but the dish is on the other house. The studio space where the 6000EX is only has a mesh node. The only things plugged in there are a Simplisafe base station and the Starlink mesh node. Nothing else is turned on. Seeing a jump from 12W to 110W seems so excessive and I am at a loss for...
It says on their site that the routers use 'on average' between 15 and 75W. Not sure if this speaks to the mesh nodes as well, tho. Plus, I'm not positive that it's starlink, but it's one of only two things plugged in. Next time I'm down there I'm going to try flipping all other breakers off and...
This is very interesting info, thanks! But, I'm assuming you're talking about the dish, router and everything. Mine is just the mesh node. I wonder if that still applies...
I haven't checked that. Next time I'm down there I will.
I just checked the app and consumption is down to 9W from 110 an hour ago.
It's literally just a nighttime thing. So weird
So I am still seeing a bump in consumption from 12W to 90W. All that is plugged in is the simplisafe base station, the starlink mesh node, and a couple of those plug in pest repeller devices.
I read online that Starlink uses more power when it is cloudy but I can't find much if any info on the...
Yeah I’m watching it and it is getting lower as the batteries get more full. Since all I have running down there right now is starlink the PV more than covers that.
Some areas in Utah are great for off-grid living. Although the state in general is pretty drought-ridden you can find places where water is plentiful. My well was 800 ft but the water is clean and reliable. I was more interested in the location than how hard water would be to get, but if you...
Out of the blue today my EG4 6000ex stopped getting any solar input. It worked fine yesterday and now the app is not even registering anything.
Anyone have any ideas as to how this might happen?
I am not onsite so I can't readily check connections or anything.
Could the MPPT have just stopped...
Their website does not reference a specific year of NEC.
Yes, roof mounted panels.
Both structures will have roof mounted panels as well as battery banks.
There is a utility room in the main house and a garage space below the studio where the equipment will be housed.
No voltage will enter...
Hi, all! I have a question regarding charging 48V Lifepower4 batteries using the EG4 Chargeverter. I just got 3 new batteries to add into my existing system. I want to fully charge each new battery before adding them and I was wondering: can I hook up the chargeverter directly to the busbars in...
Hello, all! I'm adding a few more batteries into my system and I will need to build a RS485 data cable that is long enough to connect to my other battery bank. I'm wondering what the pin configuration for that is? Does anyone know off the top of their head?
They're all EG4 Lifepower4 batteries...
So I've been monitoring my system remotely and some of the math isn't adding up and I wanted to post here to see if anyone had any insight.
I have 3 of the Lifepower4 48V 100aH batteries with a EG4 6000EX inverter. I'm using the SolarPower app.
Nothing but a simplisafe base station and the...
This might also be in line with the "code requirements" but in lieu of the 175A t-class fuses between the battery bank and the inverter does the internal battery breaker on the 18K serve as this?
I just installed virtually this same exact system and have yet to fire it up. Waiting on the...
QUESTION:
if I have 2 of the EG4 server racks feeding my inverter does the communication cable go from inverter to the first server rack then out the bottom of the first server rack into the top of the second rack?
Hello! I am having this same issue. Removed the screw and while there was not continuity between the ground and neutral buss in the inverter the voltages were still off (L1 - 105V, L2 - 138V).
I updated the firmware, checked under both options under setting 34, replaced the screw and tried again...
so my wife's uncles went out to check things out for us and took pictures.
18K is showing a battery fault. Multiple alarms saying battery voltage is high.
How, after two months of normal function would this happen?
Hi! Been running some load tests on y system. My main house is running an EG4 18KPV with 60kWh of Lifepower4 batteries and that system has been running great. My studio has 15kWh of Lifepower4 batteries and running a EG4 6000ex-48HV inverter. I got my mini split heat pump up and running and the...
Hello! This is my first post here and I'm sure there will be many to come as I am just about to get started building my off-grid power system.
I will be installing in the main house:
2 EG4 6500EX inverters with 2 full 6-slot server rack battery banks with EG4 Lifepower 48V batteries (60kWh...
That would certainly explain the discrepancy. I was under the assumption that the app would show total wattage being drawn from the battery but I guess that makes 'sense' that it doesn't show what the idle consumption is drawing.
Thanks
So the wifi went down at our property this morning and said it was due to a power outage. I'm 5 hours away and the place is remote and there is no one to go check on it so I'm a little concerned.
I am running the EG4 18K and looked at the app to see if there were any anomalies leading up to the...
thanks for your reply.
One thing that is also apparent is that it seems like the info from the app is frozen as well. It has registered the same exact numbers for hours now and I know that can't be the case.
For more clarification:
the house is not complete yet and is not inhabited. Nothing except Starlink and Simplisafe are running in there currently that's why there is no consumption.
Aside from getting a smart outlet, has anyone else experienced this type of power fluctuation with Starlink? Obviously the SolarPower app doesn't display idle consumption but I'm seeing fluctuations on the AC output side anyway.
I know this sounds silly, but do the starlink mesh nodes have to be...
Updated the 18K, still getting battery voltage high alarms if it hits 55V. Is there are way to change those settings to avoid this issue? Or will raising the bulk charge voltage cutoff harm my batteries?
I understand that using the power is a deterrent against having high voltage but sometimes...
Hello!, I am running an EG4 18K with 60kWh of lifepower4 batteries and 20 x 395w panels on the roof.
The batteries are easily filled and I have been getting "battery voltage high" alarms nearly everyday. In lieu of changing some settings on the 18K (which EG4 has offered to help me do but I have...
My SolarPower app is doing the same thing as well.
I thought my MPPT had fried haha.
THANK GOD for this forum!
Any insight on the server issue or when it might be resolved?
Just hooked up my two 6-slot lifepower4 racks, updated the firmware on all of them, hooked them up to my 18kpv inverter, I get 51V at the battery input inside the inverter but the inverter is not recognizing the batteries and is giving a solid orange warning light.
Am I missing something?
HELP!
Hello! Here are those values:
Bulk: 56.4V
Float: 54V
Low DC Cutoff: 45V
SS suggested 7-9 cycles on the batteries to retrain the internal BMS on the new batteries.
Question: do those cycles HAVE to be all the way down to that low DC cutoff voltage in order to be successful?
They are currently...
I'm looking into adding an EV charger to my off-grid house setup and appreciate all the thoughts on this thread.
I have an EG4 18K powering my main house with 8kW of PV and 60kWh of battery. Everything except the range is electric in the house.
I don't personally own an EV but we are airbnb'ing...
I got an AO Smith hybrid water heater that works incredibly well. The heat pump sips electricity. In hybrid mode it will ramp up with the electric element but once the water is hot it maintains the temp with the heat pump and is super efficient. Highly recommend
Just added 3 more Lifepower4 batteries to my system along with 5 more panels on the roof and the noise really ramped up today. I DID get an error code 69 which I saw on here means something about the batteries being full? I powered down the system and turned it back on and everything is acting...
Hello, all!
I am looking to add more battery storage to my garage/studio system and I'm wondering the best way to accomplish that.
I have a 6 slot server rack filled with Lifepower4 batteries and I'm going to add 3 more.
Couple questions:
Can I connect the two racks via the busbars using 2/0...
Resurrecting this thread because I am about to setup my eg4 6000ex and I’m trying to find a monitoring app for iPhone/Mac to be able to keep tabs on my system.
The eg4 monitor app for my 18kpv system in the main house is awesome but dessmonitor is what EG4 suggests but it is only for pc laptop...
still don't know what Blue refers to, but the point is taken.
At the time I bought the inverter it was within my budget and I couldn't go for the top of the line equipment. If Chad waited I would have even gone for one of the new EG4 6K units because they have a much lower ICR. I ended up...
Do you know whether the s-5 clamps ground to the panel and ground the entire array?
I used the s-5 brackets and they’re great but I need to install a ground and I haven’t found any resource that tells whether they ground the entire array or ground just the individual panel they’re connected to
Thanks for replies, everyone. After I switched to user defined the Solar Power App is telling me that the batteries are at 100%. Even after being on all night when they should have used roughly 15% of their storage.
Any reason for this?
not exactly...haha EG4 did tell me that there were some settings to try and change to ensure that the system never overcharged, but what I have found to work is just making sure to use electricity enough to keep the batteries from getting too full. For now that is working.
So winter has hit southern Utah with a vengeance. Bryce Canyon just received record breaking snowfall and the forecast is for more of the same.
My studio space using the EG4 6000EX has been struggling to get charged up during this spat of weather and I think (I'm not onsite unfortunately) that...
So a little backstory:
Im building a 100% off-grid house in a remote area. When I started researching solar power options I, like many of you, stumbled upon Will Prowse's videos. I learned a lot and started putting together the system I wanted to build. I had originally planned to build the...
Hi, all! I am building a 100% off-grid home in a county that says they have adopted the "National Electric Code" for their building permitting and inspection.
I am going to build the "complete 48V off grid system" that Will outlines here with 2 EG4 6500EX inverters, PV disconnects, circuit...
pardon my naïveté but where do you check that on the unit? When I initially set up the system I was under the impression that it would set those parameters automatically based on the type of batteries connected to it
I just got my EG4 18 kpv and 12 EG4 lifepower4 batteries hooked up and it’s running great! After the com cable debacle and the battery firmware update, of course. ?
The app has been great so far as well, granted this is my first solar project and first time using a remote monitoring app like...
So I just added 3 new Lifepower4 batteries to my existing 3. I checked voltages before I hooked them up and they were within a volt so I figured it was ok, but once they started charging (I also added double the panels to my array) it gave error code 69. I called Signature Solar and they walked...
