Had a similar issue, turned out to be a very loose connection. If you are taking the previously stated advice of disassembling and testing each battery you might end up "fixing" it when you reassemble it all ;)
Even this will go out of sync over time ... we use to have one in my great great grandfathers house :D
I wonder if they make any with a front interface or do they all require a wireless connection of some sort to interface with them?

***This is not an original concept*** 12 panels build a tank, each panel attached top/bottom to the adjacent panel. A stack of 4 panels go on top the previous, sheet metal corners with 2 screws per C Channel intersection min, likely might do 4.
If I don't go this route I might build it...
A service panel is where you would normally mount your disconnect, meter, and maybe junction boxes and you would get "service" from the power company to that panel. Typically these are two 4x4's burred at least 4 ft in the ground (we can't do that) and then plywood attached to that.
We have...
in our place we installed a Reliance manual transfer switch for our critical loads. We then wired the circuits we wanted to run on it and the GEN side of the transfer switch was set to the output of the Inverter. We just keep those loads always set to GEN ... power goes out, we don't know about...
I picked up a Outback radian box (empty) and a Outback Radian Load center off Craigslist earlier this year for $150 and planned on using it but didn't know where ...

I have:
PV String 1 > MN 600 > SPD > SB ( repeat for all 3 strings)
All panels EGC > MN box > SB chassis
SB emergency Power port EGC also to SB chassis
And now SB N to SB Chassis

EDIT:
YES ... There is no PWR input on the Expansion 3 ... it gets it from the connected watchmon. The limits are the voltages you can send through relays SSR's up to 65vdc, the manual relays 30vdc ... both 5A
For those of you who have read my other posts you know I purchased a sma Prewired system from MN with two 200 classics then decided to go full SMA and do AC coupled.
I don't need the classics and have removed them, their wires, breakers, sensors, etc from the control center. These have never...
Could use a split bus panel ?
Top of the panel is feed by mains and has mains only loads. There would be a breaker here which goes into AIO AC IN.
Then AIO AC Out goes to the bottom part of the panel where any loads which should be on the AIO are found.
Otherwise ... you need the POCO to go to...
Visited the place we bought our 2x2x4 retaining wall blocks from for our array today to pick the last two up. Turns out they make a cover for underground electrical vaults which are roughly 6+" x 4'x5' ... thinking of picking three up and partially burying them in the ground to use as the...
@ChrisFullPower ... turns out my IXXAT device wasn't setup to read at pins 4/5 with the version I have ... I am now tracking traffic on the can network live while the SMA is plugged up after switching to the right pins on my db9 connector
Going to let it run a day then review the logs which...
Solved it with MSPaint. Really big unicorn diodes and the switch of the ATS on the POCO side of the equation ... POCO / AC IN / AC OUT ... one panel ;)
got pack 4 active with JK BMS and is running on the system but the system has no clue it exists yet, neither does the batrium. Going to add them formally later today ... haven't had charging issues for a while now but occasionally around 1530 I have been going over there and flipping the setting...
Not a lot of sun today, but got amps into batteries ... so beginning to think the resistor to trick the SI into thinking there is a temp sensor connected is "working"
Updated post name and added the solution to the first post for the TLDR people who have a similar issue
I have seen a lot of builds for DIY storage tanks as well as indoor koi ponds that seem to use wood, typically 2x6 on edge 6" OC bolted together and tied together with plywood on either side, and I was thinking of using scrap C Channel I have left over from building.
The C Channel is 16ga...
94.8% SOC now .. still kicking at 30amps in boost mode with 1 minute before it switches to float mode. 1kw dump load still running ... I like it but it still means "work" till we have a real dump load of living on site.
UPDATE: For those that come across this and wondered what my solution was, I ended up swagging the manifold coper pipe up a bit to allow for a 3/4 brass union to be soldered on.
Same old 3.3 settled voltage state, not being able to climb past with the .1A at 98% SoC.
Will now set to the non-longlife setting, ramp start / end voltages match, set SoC manually to 88 to trigger a charging cycle given the battery is at 3.3 right now, and selected default settings for...

We live in a heating load dominant area so the house is designed to never freeze and utilize the sun as much as possible.
Site is 100% offgrid with current loads of 5-7kW/day but we are still building so that might increase slightly as we add loads.
The house has two sunrooms where 24" earth...
Thank you. We are going to be setting up our system this year and it should be interesting for sure. There are some other posts I plan to make soon which haven't been covered yet so I hope to contribute to the community where I can.
Will reply to my own thread as I find information.
Solar Hot Water Rules of Thumb
Load Est: 20gal / person / day (seems high vs the way we use hot water)

Updates:
Got everything wired up, was about to turn the ON switch "live" in video when I saw it wouldn't work as I expected because the battery was connected to the contactor then the contactor to the plate ... the issue being nothing would get power upon switching the switch to ON :D
I had...
Oh it will be lol ... our original "plan" was a 2 story 10k tank you would use to store rain water but built inside, it has since sized down to this.
Tons of people build tanks of this size for indoor koi ponds, we do have in floor drains near this area.
The 3/4 internal poly iso, R5? , was...
Update, I guess?
No issues so far ... which is interesting.
I commissioned the SI to see the 4th pack, and the batrium can see it as well now. Been that way likely for a week? Haven't seen any big issues outside the SOC/capacity of the new pack being "off" from the other packs.
I believe I...
Branching this off of my Generator post as I can see the thread getting too overwhelmed with replies. Original https://diysolarforum.com/threads/what-generator-works-with-sma-sunny-island.72963/post-1277033

After getting my SI to work with a generator via manual mode it will sometimes...
Ended up doing the following
1) Wire new pack to parallel bus bar
2) Bring down my offgrid sma setup and connect to bus bar
3) 5) Wire up original pack to connect to bus bars via the anderson connectors
3) move cell sensors from k9 (2) to k9 (1) --- just thinking but I wonder if they have the...
My batrium BMS resets my 100% SoC daily right now ... it is hooked up as a battery backup right now but every day at least once a day the battery is topped off and all cells go into bypass mode and the SoC is set to 100% ... So in some ways they are constantly top ballanced with this system :D
bridging N tro the SB Frame ground worked for Island mode
Now I need to get my "third" wire over to this thing. Just noticed I never brought over the EGC from the panel this thing hooks to >__< Just L1/L2
So far it is working better than before ...
Key thing I see now is voltages ranging from 335-3.5 as it is top balancing with default ramped settings ... the requested Ah is only 6.0 as it thinks it is at 94% SOC ... when the voltage starts to bypass I think it drops to 0.6Ah ... first time...
Had the relay trip while I was in the room so I pulled the short set of logs (as they are easier to manage) and looked at them.
Don't see any errors (35A) being thrown ... only active warning (which is always there) is that the temp sensor isn't connected on the SMA SI (why have that if you...
Update day 2 (morning)
SI is variable charging (based on sun output since we are mostly cloudy) the batteries right now.
JK at 82%, SI at 70.2% FULL charge mode, batrium at 86%
No, full wire diagram here https://diysolarforum.com/threads/image-intensive-re-purposing-radian-load-center-for-battery-bank-and-sma-si-load-center.52698/post-687216
Battery > Meanwell 24dc power supply > Batrium CORE
I haven't had this long and as soon as I saw the announcement from Batrium...
UPDATE: All resolved, will continue to keep an eye on the terminal bolts.
sometime around or before 02:50 last night the cells all bypassed and the Batrium marked that as 100% SoC (ignore the timestamps as the unit doesn't know its time zone)
Looks like some cells bypassed a good 70watts over...
yeah I have that downloaded :D was a lot of help that and this site for faster calculations vs doing it all by hand https://cryptii.com/pipes/integer-encoder
I installed MQTT mosquitto, configured, installed batmon, configured, I can see in the logs it is getting info from the BMS's but I can't see any dashboard anywhere.
So being me I copied someones YML and tried to make my own dash ... but the sensor.<bms sensor name> don't exist ...
There is...
I ran my offgrid system as a battery backup for my transfer switch in my main house while building my solar passive house for a while. I didn't use Dig in IIRC and it worked, even with no loads on AC1. What generator are you planning to use with the system in the future?
From the SMA site commissioning via the 360 app
I think I would rather have the SB7.7 though ... just keep everything the same in the system and not have a unique inverter out of the bunch.
Something in the current documentation makes it seem like a PITA to configure the SBSE in my situation...
AGAIN! ... 0430 today it looks like the power shut off ... I came in and the BMS again had reset itself to a default state, the battery voltage was about 30% SOC this time.
I reset it all, and reset the SOC the configured the SI for VRLA and started things up to find the SI dumping 6000w into...
Varies but since I have the grid hooked up to the inverter the batteries are not really in use right now. This morning low voltage is 3.32, high 3.34, requested charging amps .6, actual charging amps .7, SoC 280.000 indicated. If I were to disconnect loads and simply let it sit it would...
Going to start marking when I "reset" the max charge amps setting. My current strategy isn't even to change it but to go in and whatever the setting is just hit Y and it starts doing its thing.
Did it this morning around 8 am. State was in BOOST
Using the default "long life" settings for batrium which places the low shunt cutout at 50.4 for discharging. It does have a low SoC cutout as well but it isn't enabled right now ... default is 20%, resume at 25% (meaning it will allow discharging at 25% SoC or greater.
This has been confusing me for the last couple of days.
PV > SB (out) > AC1
BAT > SI > AC1
1) In the situation you have posted both the grid and the generator are optional, meaning this is an "offgrid" setup ... how does the SB know the "grid" is active (and thus produces max output of SB vs...
Did it again. I was away all morning and we have had 100% clear skies. Batteries down at 40% SOC (actual) read 65% SOC on SI ... come home after 4 hours of sun and they were not charging again ... Changed the max amps again from 90 to 89 and it instantly starts to charge :/
There has to be a...
Still an issue :/
Since the above I have added my third pack to the mix. It was "good" for the day I added it then today, three days later and first partial sun day since, I come in to find the batteries getting 1 amp ... I have been trying to change other settings to see if it would "trigger"...
Tried another green today, generac by briggs and stratton, wheel house 5500. No dice. Voltage was pretty high but in range, 130 per leg. Bounced between 126 and 130 range.
Also tried to configure as grid and grid Gen and neither worked.
There is a Honda with digital Avr i can rent and...
Interesting, I didn't realize this but it 100% makes sense why this would be the case. I know I can semi-easily ground one end of this cable at the BMS ... the other end at the SI will be a little trickier ... will likely have to peal the cable back, expose the shielding, wrap and bond another...
@Hedge
Where did you get your SMA load shed relay? I looked around a bit and nothing was popping up less stuff in Europe ... even emailed SMA USA to see where I could get one but they haven't responded
Update, and an odd one.
I am seeing 200VAC on S1's AC2 on occasion with nothing hooked up to it.
Also S1 has a asterisk after it which normally means AC2 input is in spec.
As a side note / thought I just had ...
Technically I could migrate the load shed function to use the Batrium Expansion board relays as a SoC limit / range but I want the SI to ideally control the load shed relays.
The wiring would likely go
SMA SI Bat + (4 pin connector) > Batrium Exp Relay >...
The errors thrown right after the relay shuts off are the Low Battery Modes (bat preservation modes) ... these settings look like they have default values. I looked at the firmware versions, Got (in this order #1 - #4) 7.302, 7.300, 1.004, 1.000 ... not sure what the current firmware version is...
The only thing this problem is preventing me from doing is buttoning up the system ... so the covers are off for now. It "runs" it just doesn't run like I want it to (that is with the SMA not throwing errors in its logs) ...
We have had one light flicker event, but I didn't witness it so I...
Now thinking I need to drag my 280ah 48vdc battery up there which is a PITA and connect it to a currently crated MN SMA SI temporarily, commission that SI, then commission the SB, remove the battery and take it back home ... I swear that thing weighs at least 180 lbs :/
Thought about wiring up...
It does BUT not for LFP batteries ... if you set the unit to LFP then it requires COMs from an external BMS
In the SMA SI CAN protocol 0x351 is required and sets battery charge voltage, dc charge current limit, dc discharge current limit, and discharge voltage ... if you don't pass these it wont...
Been trying to think of a way around this ... right now every day I get on site I have to turn the SPS off then back on ... this means the mini freezer I am using as a fridge is OFF during hours it could be ON ...
My only thought right now is a battery powered relay circuit hooked up to the...
I can dump 7kW into the pack if I wanted to but I am limiting it to 40a which typically means 40-70a at the inverter as it swings loads around. Currently it is sitting around 2.3kW going into pack 2, I do this because the batrium doesn't seem to like the larger amp swings with my past...
https://diysolarforum.com/threads/recommended-charge-profile-for-diy-lifepo4-batteries-sticky-post.5101/ Wills post here, down at the 5000+ cycles, if you do the math you get around 3.53 v per cell. @sunshine_eggo EDIT: Default setting for bypass voltage is 3.5 when you select "Li-FePO4...
Currently at 84% SOC, still have 1kw load, battery charging around 35a.
Our water heater isn't even hooked up yet, but it will be preheated with our 1080 gallon thermal storage tank which is heated from either the boiler or, most of the time, our solar evacuated tubes ... so it might be it...
UPDATE, and new issues:
So this system was decommissioned and setup in its new home as a slave unit to another master for my offgrid house build. I haven't had any restart issues I can recall since installing the BMS with the new unit, the master, receiving the signal.
BUT ... have some odd...
Set to island 60hz, 103 error ... set ac side voltage / grid voltage to 240 but no dice.
I have 2 wires going to this unit which provide the 240 without a neutral.
Reverting to rule 21 L-L and the code clears.
Did a dive last night into more generator research and other peoples experience with SMA ... it is a mess for sure.
I found one US guy with a Kubota GL7000 generator that "worked" only if he turned the governor down on the generator ... but that is a $7k generator so I can't easily test that...
Ok time to sound crazy.
PV -> SB -> True 240/120 transformer 41.6A 240V IN > 83.3A 120V OUT (single phase north america phase converters )- > SI -> loads (all 120V)
Would this "work" ? Trying to work out a cheaper buy in for those who can't buy two SI's but like the SB (preconfigured for...
omph ... so ensured my VRLA settings were right (not sure if they were) by looking at batrium voltages and leave the pack alone for two days and come back to this. Batrium bypass is at 3.5 and it has yet to get to an "actual" 100% event with all cells bypassing ...
The JK bms come sometime soon...
I haven't used the relays yet but I do have it "wired" up here https://diysolarforum.com/threads/image-intensive-re-purposing-radian-load-center-for-battery-bank-and-sma-si-load-center.52698/post-673445
Going to try to configure something with the expansion board to control a radian 2 second...
Musings. If I use a multifunction relay setup for Interval open on signal ... then I think if I feed the SMA relay into the input on the batrium expansion board and "listen" for an on/off signal I can use TWO relays on the board as switches which would go to a single multifunction relay ... at...
Do you have a link to a thread with your current settings? I assume your doing LiFePo4 in 16s and some number of those in parallel ...
And I assume the SI would have no clue, open loop, that a individual battery is beyond its limits and not know when to stop charging?
Chris you ever get this hammered out?
I am still getting the unit cycling the relay as well as occasionally restarting ... thankfully, and ironically, I have important stuff on a external BMS now so when this happens I retain my internet connection for example.
Was trying to figure out what...
Observations now I have had an hour or so of sun.
I set float to 2.3 from 2.27, while in float voltage was 54. Float stopped putting energy into battery though and now at 53.1. I watched it ramp down the amps as the frequency ramped up to 61.5 if I recall correctly. Then the frequency dropped...
Took me some time as I am working a lot on our house build / actual work to get something back as a general level wire diagram.
In the diagram attached I have put the distances for each run ... at this point the trench is "done" and I only need to order the boxes to wire it all up. The wire is...
Partial support comes with purchase in the k9+core kits if I recall ... but it isn't specified to hours rather the types of questions if I recall.
I immediately turned off my build pending a dc-dc converter (which should arrive today) knowing "support" can be an issue and I don't want to "need"...
I ran the SI with DIY LiFePo4 battery and Batrium BMS for about a year ... this system has now been moved to our new home we are building which is offgrid and reconfigured with another SI for split phase. The battery backup was nice BUT I couldn't use the SI built in relays well to auto...
forgot to address this as well ... these are not "studs" these are the 11ft C Channel we are using at the top and bottom of our windows which span 88ft in total (24 windows in each floor which are ~79" high each and weigh a good 155 each). These are attached on to our steel columns only on the...
do you have eyes on the raw CAN traffic as well or just UDP at this time?
Good to hear your up and running!
Still noting patterns with the Batrium ... on day 5 of the battery being sub 100% after charging from 50% Soc and resetting the SoC daily after ~6Ah gets into the battery and the SoC...
I am fairly confident in my ability to code this up if I could find the right platform to do it on. My "real work" when I am not building the house involves complex coding so I am good there :D
For now I need to get this system up so I can see where the radiant is in the floor so we know where...
I found a place which was conducting "experiments" on different types of passive solar building and it seemed their go to was 12" of foam on the ground, 24" of sand over that which has tons of 4" drainage pipe for air tubes in it ... they would run the air out of attached greenhouse like spaces...
I should add ... we have had lightning strike across the street close enough to get some metal going sparky via induction in places on the property, but only a little, and the SI/SB/Panels are all ok :)
I have not had this device hooked up to any computer or the web for months ... it was "working," with previously mentioned issues, for that long in my new offgrid setup :/
Did you commission the battery once or many times and expand the size or change the type?
Mine started out as 1 280 pack on BMS but coms were dropping so I migrated to 1 280 pack on VRLA
Then I expanded to 2 280 packs VRLA and that is when the troubles started I think.
Now I am at 3 pending a...
8am, full sun, sun not really hitting panels hard yet but there should be something. (showing -1 : 1 amp)
Went through and confirmed (edit the setting and then hit yes) to all battery settings ... every one but the max amp setting, even the time based ones.
Nothing.
Changed the max amp and...
Behavior mentioned previously. I have turned off breakers at main panel and it didn't change. Also turned off, though not fully, the main unit and started, again no change.
Haven't placed a load on the voltage source yet.
So after reading the white paper I realized none of the generators likely fall into the range of something that would work with the SI less it mimicked what a synchronous generator outputs :/
I did try to switch to frequency / current today to see if it would accept the gens I have on site but...
Just gave the inverters a 1500w load for 2+ minutes. Battery took 100% of the load and after about 2 minutes the PV took the load and was charging the battery as well. Removed load at 3 minutes and now it is ramping the charging back down. Still indicating float mode. SOC post ramp down is 77.9...
Yeah I saw, but if he did that with one battery pack active it likely would have tripped his smaller breakers.
My current layout isolates batteries with a T Fuse and a switch https://diysolarforum.com/threads/batrium-watchmon-install.17539/post-494928 that should allow for my SMA to pull a full...
are you asking about the SI, the BMS, or the CAN READER ?
I think the BMS and SI output the traffic they are programmed for.
I didn't have to change settings on the CAN READER to see different parts of the traffic / signal ... it is mainly like a firehose of information. I filtered this out...
found my caliper
compression fitting male to male connector
1mm pitch
28mm OD
23mm ID
copper pipe is
19mm ID
~21.6 OD
not sure how to get this to a 3/4 standard yet. I haven't been able to find a compression fitting which goes from M28x1 to 3/4
Likely should add a load shed relay on the loads side ... now the fun part is finding one I can eventually use with my whole house install on the new build :/
Error 1302, if I recall correctly, after commissioning ... AC disconnected.
Not sure how to "fix" this or what settings the other people used when they setup their units.
Setup for island 60hz mode, what was odd was the grid maintenance tab but I tried several things and nothing got rid of...
