How do you mean diminishing returns?
I've been using wire/lugs for busbars on an 2p4s of 280ah eve cells. Yes resistance is slightly higher, but 6 months of charging at 80amps(6hrs) once a week and no weird things going on at all, BMS voltages are milliamp correct, ∆ stays between 5 and 10mA...
What current are you wanting the busbars to carry? According to Amy, these welded studs are rated at 200amps, rating is worked out very differently from cables. If you have seen the contact area in high power relays, you will know how small they can be. Unless you are wanting to draw 1C it's not...
If you think you want 24v in the future then there is nothing wrong with using a converter until you get the rest of the batteries, as long as you can source a converter that is rated for your needs and doesn't have too much of a parasitic draw or inefficiency that will drain your system too...
True, but judging by the comments by most folk on here, they research things to excess, me included.?
A decent 10tonne crimp can be had for under £30 these days.
I bet those cables were impressive, and expensive. ?
Looks good. I really like that aluminium box.
For anyone questioning cable lugs, which are deemed as gas tight:
As a gas-tight connection is one where the conductors and connectors are so tightly deformed and compressed together that there are no cavities between them. Neither a liquid or a...
Very good points.
Re the cable lugs, considering the reliability of the cold weld in a properly crimped good quality lug and cable in a dry environment, I really don't see it as a problem unless you are working with huge amps. Every system has its issues and weighing it up solid busbars had...
Yup you are right, I don't work in awg, wrong line on table. And I'm just going on the manufacturer spec for welding cable. It's still above my usage.
I don't have to match my cable to my BMS as it's an electrodacus. So it's sized for the cutoff relays and fuses, and I'd argue just because you...
The wire is 25mm² (2awg) welding wire, it's spec'd at 170amps nominal from the suppliers. And the pack is 2p4s, so theoretically if the cable between the 2ps was bigger it could handle 340amps, but I've used 25mm² there too. I'm not sure I would trust it drawing anywhere near that, but it's for...
My only concern is that copper can carry a lot of heat away, but hopefully the delta would stand out against the other terminals. Is a fun add on to the project that I'll fully delve into the raspberry pi monitoring side when winter comes around. The sensors are made though, glued into...
I've used DS18B20 as they can be chained together and read digitally via the raspberry pi. I needed 16, and reading 16 analogue probes would have been a right PITA.
Interesting idea. My approach when I get my pack up and running is there will be a temperature sensor on each terminal logged through an RPI. I don't know how effective it will be in assessing small changes as the heat may be sinked too quickly, but was implementing it more to monitor for bigger...
