They aren't copies. They are practically the same inverter, made by the same company. The only issue is that Deye promised Sol-Ark that Deye's other distributors wouldn't sell them in the Americas, that only Sol-Ark would get to sell that model Deye inverter, and with Sol-Ark badging on it...
What you say makes sense, but the battery certs are something to consider. It's insane that we've let our politicians be lobbied to the point where this is the price difference. I'm pretty sure they are both close to the same safety in regards to batteries if using comms, the UL9540a / UL9540...
Correct.
Just disconnect AC input from whatever inverter you want to use. Then hook a separate charger, like an EG4 Chargeverter onto your DC bus. Connect the charger to your grid AC. Now you can't backfeed, you have a dedicated, safe to use, 5000watt converted to DC grid feed. Only becomes...
Were any of you ever able to screech into the phone and cause a connection to a modem on the other end? I was. Not surprising considering how whiny and annoying I am.
Not so great for saving money, via blending / feedback, but yes, good UPS mode.
I wish there was a way we could actually affect change and get tiny amounts of spurious feedback legalized without a permitting process, so long as the device meets the basic UL1741(sabcdedf) regs. I'm pretty sure...
That's the worst part about Victron. They seem to give a rats butt about American customers. They'll sell to us, but they have little to no concern for whether we can do a permitted legal install with their kit. Granted, many of the NEC / UL permitting requirements are excessive, and I don't...
"Able to afford". I wonder if they will be paying more or getting substantial volume discounts and the utility will be sticking us with the higher cost per kw.
Maybe somebody hacked his account, and posted in a very James like fashion so that it was believably James. We must await further confirmation from EG4/SS that it's really him. :ROFLMAO:
I would imagine there are a few of us here that find "purchasing a license" to also be immoral bullcrap. We probably don't want to get into a large argument about how we've allowed digital rights to fall so far.
I recently made a joke about a battery disposal plan request by the inspector in another thread. I said "leave them out in front of city hall". Maybe that was the straw that broke his back.
Maybe the Deye inverter was their backup plan to their questionable grid? How many backups of backups should people have to buy? Not everybody can afford backups of backups of backups.
Solar Assistant is probably one of those things that you don't know how fun it is until you actually have it set up and start playing with it. I don't have it, but it sounds neat.
Before I noticed it was for FOUR of them, I was thinking, why am I looking at this boring deal. Then I saw FOUR of them, and it was a much better deal.
No, they are "legitimate" Deye units being bricked because of marketing arrangements with distributors in certain regions. You have some reading to catch up on.

The problem with most central air is entirely lack of zone control and duct work placed into horrifically hot areas. Just because it's easy to run duct work in an attic, doesn't mean that is where it should be. :(
From the tone of @SignatureSolarJames post about the recordings, they have one on the OP where OP isn't going to be viewed favorably. From the tone of the OP's post about the recordings, there are (should be) others where OP will be viewed favorably. It really has to be an all or nothing thing...
They do not have that morale right. They have the right to go after the company that sold it, not the customer that bought it. If Deye wants the inverter back, they can buy it back or simply fine THEIR distributor that sold it.
I think the problem is, they get slammed, but because of their company culture (from the top down), their default stance is "Protect the Queen!", the Queen being SignatureSolars pocketbook. They seem to err on the side of themselves, not the side of the customer. Every single one of their...
And when he goes out of business, or becomes too busy to answer? It's a stupid system, I'm not going to pretend it isn't. I don't have a beef with him personally though, he seems ok.
Distributor type arrangements like that made more sense before the internet and rapid easy worldwide shipping...
I've got the one with the integrated voltmeter. It works pretty well on my 12v lifepo4's in series. Without it, the batteries would not stay balanced voltage or SOC wise.
@jrcromer
If I were you, I would:
Take back her batteries, give her the money back
Update your literature with the 30watt per hour consumption spec. Make it tiny if you want.
Sell the returned batteries at a huge discount as used/scratch/dent/refurb whatever. Some people here on the forum...
Anybody aware of this situation should refuse to do business with Deye and their associates after this. Doing further business with them will only prove that what they did here was acceptable. I'm sorry that you feel differently, it reflects poorly upon you.
@Will Prowse You haven't done enough Victron equipment. Do the expensive stuff that none of us can afford. In true Victron fashion, get yourself a large ocean capable boat, put it in your driveway and see what your neighbors think about it.
James, for future reference.. you would have come out of all this smelling like roses had you not made the initial post about all this going down in the first place.
It would have come out regardless, a few days later perhaps, but it would have come out.
Once it was out, you could have offered...
Notice my join date, I only found this place because of the freeze here in Texas. Thanks Texas! I lurked for a while, then couldn't resist joining in the fun.
Personally, I assume everybody that doesn't put a (y),:love:, or :ROFLMAO: on my posts must have me on ignore, because how else would they not be compelled to do so.
I'm not forcing them to sell it to anybody. Merely that once it leaves their hands and goes to a second party, it's not theirs anymore except for duplication rights. If their distributor screwed them and distributed it in a way they didn't like, their recourse is against that distributor, not...
Was that written by AI? It seemed to lack any personality of the author.
Anyway, the China thing was a snowball. It started off sending stuff there because they were cheap with what amounted to slave labor and no environmental regulations. To compete with whomever did it first, everybody...
Seems fair, as far as I can tell everybody is allowed to come on here like EG4/SS does and post. You would think other companies would come here and do what EG4/SS does.. kind of a bummer that they don't, I would like to give other companies the same treatment I give EG4/SS.
Yeah, that...
If you really want to get their attention on a thread attempt a summoning, like this..
@SignatureSolarJames
@Markus_SignatureSolar
@Travis_signaturesolar
Not as much as one would like, due to the flat voltage curve. They will equalize in voltage, but the SOC could still be pretty different amongst them up near the top of the voltage range.
I have balancers on my 12v to 48v series packs.. they are a must in my experience. However, they still...
One of those little plastic plugs could be inserted into the port at the factory, with a label on it secured by a plastic string, saying "DANGER, only use properly configured straight through ethernet cable or death may occur." :p
More like socialism than communism. It depends on who gets the money, the state or the utility and if the utility is privately or publicly owned. The proposal looks like crap to me though, regardless of what word we assign to it. Too many hands dipping into stuff they have no business knowing.
I would be absolutely fine with that method of discouragement, if they just left it at that and shut up. Just charge you for the backfeed and be done with it. They could even list it separately on the bill so you know you need to work on reducing it. :ROFLMAO:
It's an advanced feature, future proofing for when the US grid moves to a much higher voltage. We weren't supposed to discover the hidden pinout until the announcement.
Both Sol-Ark and Signature Solar have taken numerous beatings from an assortment of members since I've been here, and I've only been here a short while.
EG4 branded stuff gets mentioned more in general, positively and negatively because they A) sell batteries at a relatively decent price, B)...
It's also possible something could fail inside the EG4 inverter, causing a rush of current from a connected device. It's not necessarily the connected device that causes the failure.
None. There is no middle ground. If you alter the incoming grid signal by "adding" to it in any way, using power of your own that didn't come from the grid, you run the risk of them finding out.
I have that very same 4s 12v for 48v active balancer. It's helping keep my himassi and other lifepo4 battery brand Frankenstein batteries in series stay equal"ish". Considering the relatively flat voltage curve on lifepo4 it's not perfect, but it's doing wonders compared to before with no...
This kind of corporate toadie boot licking behavior isn't unusual these days. They all have their cheerleaders that make excuses for every foul thing they do. It seems that many of us have lost our spines.
We have to also add in whatever amount of electricity the EV's used are taxed for per kwh. Unless they are getting their electricity free from solar, they are being charged some sort of tax per kwh. One would suspect it would be less than the gas tax. The electricity tax also isn't reserved...
Imagine if they were readily available with local North American stock and you could just buy one with a few day shipping. You would be in big trouble then.
Both the government and the regulated monopoly are to blame. To somehow think they both don't enjoy milking the taxpayer / customer is beyond me. I'm not even sure how you could tell a regulator, politician and a utility executive apart considering they swap job titles from time to time.
I'm...
They probably didn't ask for them back, merely that he never acknowledge their existence again and that they now have no warranty.
I'm such a jerk, I wouldn't even be happy with a full refund. He wasted how much time on them? How much has that money lost to inflation / not being in an...
There were two forum members that said their inverters were shut down, one was at least a year or more of forum age. Somebody tallied it up in that other thread a few pages back. It's only been a day or two, I think it might take a while before a significant number of affected people manage to...
I'm having a hard time reading your posts. Are you cheerleading for the power companies?
Per your own words, they are government protected monopolies. They have been milking everybody for years, they don't deserve more at our expense for their increasingly shoddy services. If they don't like...
People always get really interested in solar and batteries after a big storm. Then they get a few quotes, look at their bank balance, pull out their pockets, look under the couch cushions, and come to the harsh realization that it is expensive. Or, they get sold some grid tied system that...
I can name private companies I've had to deal with that are just as awful. The only real difference is that in some rare cases, I have a choice of whether I deal with the private companies.. not much of one, but sometimes there is a competitor that is slightly less awful. With something like...
The point is, it's available on Amazon with free shipping for the equivalent price of a 12v battery by amp hour. It satisfies the people that say you shouldn't run 12v batteries in series.
As long as they stay available at a similar price, I'd just keep buying em and stacking em on. You could...
I have no beef with you.
Your posts in reply to mine are quite reasonable. They've contained actual content to continue the discussion and aren't just purely antagonistic trolling.
By the time you have enough money to afford any audiophile equipment, your hearing is probably already coming up with enough neat noises of it's own anyway.
