Haha "wants an ambitious answer". U made my day.
Asking a POCO stuff like that is like asking a butcher if u r allowed to become vegan. They prob always have to say anything against it.
But is will check with them.
Ok, i think what i get from this is, that it will not come to the US. Bummer.
Luckily my system is automated to start loads when excess would be exported to grid.
But was nice to read about opinions here.
Hope i did not cause to much disturbance here.
It is just a great way to get the normal...
Good morning.
I am from Germany and now life here in the US now but still watch the renewable development here and over there.
And since they have these plug into regular outlet 600w inverter/pv bundles that u can buy and operate at home, i was wondering if anyone over here has heard anything...
Loads are a well pump, electric range/oven, Heat pump Heat/cool 27k unit, pellet stove, oil furnace (heat and hot water), pool filter 0.75 kw, fridge, freezer, server, lights and so on.
Location is North jersey with plenty of room for panels without any shade
E bill is between 78 (fall and...
They definitely backfeed the grid if you have to little usage in your household over the day, but u dont get any money for the access, thats why people start getting batteries for them as well. And i have never seen a switch next to an outlet in my 35 years in germany. Saw such switch/outlet...
Thx for answering.
What are you powering with it?
Do you have appliances that drag it down?
I was hoping to fire my whole house with it. Only monster load i have is a dryer but that prob turns into the heatpump one from ge.
Do u run well pump or anything with it?
Good morning everyone. I am about to pull the trigger on a 12000xp and a indoor 15 kwh eg4 upright battery.
Before i do so, i wanted to here some opinions first.
I am planning to hook it up and use it as a hole house battery backup with grid bypass until i can afford the next step and get pv...
Hello everyone.
I am still trying to find out if the 6000xp is for me.
So i just saw that a recent firmware upgrade got gen boost in.
And it sounds like it is using pv, battery and what ever the generator can do in term of the allowed 50 amps together which gets this unit almost to 9000 watt...
I also have lots of emporia data...
and i think i am similar range for the night...
I was planning 15kwh from the start...cause below that i would cycle that poor thing to often...
So when i read that correct, waiting for the 12000xp could be useful.
At this pace i never get solar :-)
Hello everyone.
I am about to pull the trigger and really go forward with my pv plans.
But for that i need some clarification and maybe a couple product ideas. And maybe get my head straightend if i am crazy.
So i want to have pv with batteries but technically 100% sure not to export or being...
Hello, i am planning a eg4 6000xp system and that will get a good amount of battery storage.
Is here any experience around from someone going such a or simalr route already?
I am wondering if there were any permitting needed or even issues with permits due to battery storage in residential building.
You guys really rock, so much jnout and constructive critic and suggestions. I am definitely a step further I n my project due to you guys comments.
I will wait for the 12kxp and will start with 15kwh battery and work myself up from there...as the budget allows kinda.
I have a free garage roof...
Thays why i was asking this...cause i dont know how people do all the solar over here dept free.
I make +90k a year and cant afford dept free solar. Those installers always just want to give you turn key systems ala 30k+ and the pocos dont want you to play with it afterwards like extend.
I...
Thx alot for the fast answer...
so these hybrid/aio can not export?
So i should hunt for those then.
Thx alot.
Do you know if this kind of setup would be still considered grid tied?
And do you by any chance know any good inverters in that class?
Well, i am planning to run my house on it.
And the reviews i saw so far show a pretty beefy device. And i monitor my load for good a year now with emporia and i never even get close to 6kw usage. And for the surges, i am stsy8ng in the 50 amps it seems to provide.
Lets see how i am able to...
For me it is the thing that i was hoping for a bigger 6000xp...meaning same feature set like the non grid feed by design but more power.
Cause the 6000xp is an awesome idea but to small and adding more 6000xp toe the equation is just practical for me...
Not only do you need more space on the...
How would i apply that?
I am keeping my todays breaker box with its 200 amp breaker on top and the 30 breakers below it...
Where would be that interlock kit go in?
I am planning to have the whole house on this 12000xp puppy
In the beginning in battery backup mode with passthrough...without...
Ok...i think i got it...
Yes, i want a off grid inverter with either ATS build in in case i use to much or battery is dead/no sun.
Thx for the Clarification
Hello everyone.
Now that the 12000xp becomes reality i am outlining what i need and i am looking for a manual transfer switch for a 200 amp system thay does not brake the bank (<1000 bucks).
All i see on amazon is flimsy and mostly not ul rated. Or as expenaive as the 12000xp itself which is...
Pesty officials...
All i want is a diy solar that grows at my will/speed, batteries due to very frequent outages, no backfeeding to grid but grid as continuous backup/sidestream. Probably have to actually talk to my hometown building official and see that rings he want me to jump through.
Thx...
I am just trying to find a way to use this thing as my major power supply. Diy solar, battery and grid as a mix. So as long my diy solar is little (only have 20x 175 watt panels yet), i want the grid to boost pv and keep batteries charged for ups usage but also use all the pv without throttling...
Isn't the ability of an inverter to feed back into the grid already a problem? Or is the tieing of those mentioned inverters a physical step and not just software selection? If it is actually a physical thing that the backfeed lines are not the same as the ac input, i would prob dare to go that...
Thx for the info provided.
I dont run waterheater on electric, so that should be good. And according to my 2 years of data, i only exceed 5000 watts at once when the darn dryer runs. Unfortunate i dont have access to a inrush current meter.
So from your perspective...is it still worth it?
And...
Thx for your answer...
I am actually looking into physically isolating the the inverter or the grid from the breaker panel in case i have to work on the inverter and still want to run my house...so that i can just flip the switch and be on grid only with the breaker box and clear to work on the...
Hello diy'ers.
I am new to this forum and was hoping to get some advice or experience report from someone who did similar thing.
I want pv, preferably grid tied with battery and hopefully zero export but i am def not in the position /or willing to cough up 30 k or more for someone doing...
Hmmm, reads like it needs to be installed and running to claim...buying now on pile to save the next 4 years import tax increase seems not to be covered...and i am not sure it i will be able to effort batteries after buying this puppy for a while...(i never buy anything (except house and car)...
Considering that your system is 48 volts, you are saying that you have roughly 48kwh of batteries right now?
Always puzzles me how you guys always cough up those finances :-)
Is there a good known "how much battery do i need online calculator/estimator" that you guys use/trust?
So to round...
With zero export i mean incapable of export. Was just hoping that this would have made it clear. Current panel is a 1980 200 amp cutler hammer. But that came with the house. I am dreaming of a span, but that is depending on my budget while redoing whole house. Unfortunate i dont have a inrush...
Thx for ur quick answer.
Somehow i dont like microinverters and batteries do to dc dc battery charging efficiency and i am not aware of a micro inverter setup that would give me power while grid is down like some sma string inverters do until i might be able to get the battery in place.
But i am...
Thats exaclty what i dont want...POCO involved. It is a power generating appliance without ability to feed grid, so i should not even have to talk to them. I also dont ask them if i add a generator or heat pump
Is there actually a split phase inverter out there that any of you can think of that does what the 6000xp does but with more output power? And maybe including the ups/grid sideload function? Cause in case the 6000watt are not enough as many state, what would be the next option up?
Still...
Bummer situation...but why 2x 12000xp's, i cannot imagine any situation in my house where i could use that much at a time.
And with you saying batterieS i assume plural?
I had to bail out...i dont have the funds to cough it all up right away...so my inverter, battery, PV project is most likely...
Hello...how would you do that?
And are polaris connectors allowed by code?
I am aiming to have a meter box outside with breaker...most of them come with 4-8 breaker slots anyway...
Are you suggesting to to have 2 breakers in that with the interlock, so that only direct breaker panel feed OR...
Hello everyone...
I tried to find an answer to this was unusccesful.
So i hope i dont ask this the 10000th time...
If so, mea maxima culpa...
So i try to buid a home system with the least interconnect nonsense with the POCO as possible but still be able to life with grid power if needed.
So...
The interlock in the outside breaker panel is supposed to enable grid OR inverter to power the main panel...def not planning to do both at same time...but while i am writing this i see what you are saying...hmmm, looks like i have to rethink this
I am looking at 26 breakers and that approach would prob fill up my wall pretty fast, and the amount of wires back and forth...not sure if that is not complicating things to much for me.
Looks great...but what transfer switch do you use?
Seems like transfer switches are hard to come by (at least for me since i need one rated for 200 amps)
Hello. Thx for the fast replies.
Is a 12k actually in the piepeline?
I am wondering how practical 2 or more 6000xp are since they all need there own panels and batteries, right?
Thx for your input. What do you refer to when u say small backfeed? Do you mean that it only does 25 amps per phase?
I was actually looking at this thing because of the all in one(hopefully)hassle free and ats inside with <15ms switching time which is UPS grade.
By the way...i drew up the sketch and was wondering the following:
When i have direct grid power on, no passthrough, just straight on grid, and my 12000xp is hooked up to the main panel with its Line out towards main panel...would that cause issues with the inverter or can the "out" have power...
Hello and thx for the fast replys.
My usage varies kinda, here is my last month, according to emporia vue2.
Dryer and washer are getting turned into this all in one heat pump soon
Good morning everyone.
I am planning my solar system but i dont want anyone beisdes maybe building codes to talk into it.
So i dont want any interconnection issues with the utility and i want to grow my system slow on paycheck2paycheck basis.
So does anyone has experience if i would have to...
Thx alot for the detailed response.
I also think that two would be enough for my needs. As soon my electric dryer dies, i am going heatpump wahser dryer and then pretty much the biggest consumer would be the range/oven here as well. How much battery do u use and is it all on one inverter or...
Hello everyone.
Glad that i found this awesome community. Was already able to get a lot out of it by reading, but i still cant get my head around a couple things.
So i am planning to do semi off grid.
Inverter will be 1 EG4 6000xp for the beginning and maybe later a second, but lets see how it...
They are not feeding when grod os off. Germans are way more anal when it comes to safety than the us. They need to power down in less then 10ns and have to be disconnected via relay on top. No chance to unplug and zapp yourself, no matter how fast you try.
How often u see those? Well you can...
