  • Post in thread: Off grid office!

A bit of testing today with the multiplus 1200VA (1000W) 8000 BTU (0.7 ton) freestanding AC runs ~ 700W, no issues when the compressor kicks. Ran for a couple of hours. Was hoping to run a pair of these, but would be too much unless I get a second inverter. LG dual inverter tumble drier, 600 -...
  • Post in thread: Minimalist Victron System?

I'm assuming you would be using a LifePO4 battery as these are much easier to store and maintain the Lead Acid and with a larger DOD store a lot more energy in the same space. If so then just get one with a bluetooth BMS. You can see the state of charge, consumption / charge rate etc all on your...
  • Post in thread: Battery Generator Won't Charge Through AC or DC- Look at this panel please

Hi, I've no knowledge of which chip(s) are at fault, just what I'd read on the youtube comments. You can check the chips for any physical damage but beyond that you'd need someone who can trace the voltage through from the ports and interpret the schematic. Often the chips have the tops scrubbed...
  • Post in thread: Renogy - odd parallel behavior

So charging seems OK today, quite a dull rainy day so charging ~20 to 40A, though peaks of 70A+. The charge current was ~ 20-30% higher for the battery that had the issue yesterday throughout the charge cycle. The absorbtion started around 11am, at 1pm the MPPT's were floating at 14.2 with the...
  • Post in thread: E02 Error - Revamped DIY Expansion Battery for Ecoflow Max 2000 - Now with HQST & Lessons Learned

I'm not sure that is the same type of balancer. It looks like it is for a pair of parallel batteries which likely have a common neutral so wouldn't work across a 48V pack unless you disconnect and split the batteries , in which case a top balance would likely be as effective.
  • Post in thread: Battery Generator Won't Charge Through AC or DC- Look at this panel please

The usb socket is likely surface mount so connections on the other side, however the board has probably been designed for either surface mount or through hole depending on what sockets they get cheap. I would suspect a failure rather than intentionally disconnected as from what I can see, it...
  • Post in thread: Different discharge, parallel

How are these two connected, can you show with the covers off? Looks like you have the feed for both batteries stacked onto a single terminal which is less than ideal. I would either have one on each end, and the two inverter cables in the middle, or the opposite where you use the two middle...
  • Post in thread: E02 Error - Revamped DIY Expansion Battery for Ecoflow Max 2000 - Now with HQST & Lessons Learned

How are you balancing between the two 140Ah batteries? The SCC will only see a voltage across both batteries so one battery can hit the BMS disconnect voltage before the other battery is fully charged and the same in the discharge cycle. From what I can see, one battery could still be in bulk...
  • Post in thread: Renogy - odd parallel behavior

To close this out for anyone finding this thread later. Batteries are now working as expected. The issue seems to be a BMS lockout as per snip below. The battery would detect a cell overvoltage and partially disconnect resulting in a terminal voltage of 13.0-13.1V which fell below 12.7V when...
  • Post in thread: Weird charging behaviour from pair of Renogy LifePo4

I have exactly the same issues with Renogy batteries, however I have the 170Ah without the BMS so it is difficult to see what is happening at a cell level. The batteries will disconnect at anywhere from 14V to 14.4V (measured at the terminals) and go into high protection, I assume an individual...
  • Post in thread: Stupid me used lead-acid charger and now lifepo4 stuck at 13.2V. BMS tripped? How to reset?

What brand battery is it? I have Renogy, when the BMS disconnected for imbalanced cells I got 13.1V at the terminals. On 10A discharge it would dip to ~12.7V over a minute before recovering to ~13.4V and behaving normally for the rest of the discharge. After a few 50% discharge / full charge...
  • Post in thread: Fogstar Leisure Battery (UK) 280AH vs 300AH

Hi, I currently have a pair of Renogy 170AH batteries in parallel and am looking to expand a little to get at least 6kWh storage. I have a battery box I built which would take a third Renogy 170AH battery. This was the plan, however with the ongoing comedy of my discussions with Renogy customer...
  • Post in thread: Off grid office!

I'd done some sums and realised how little energy was generated in winter so went for a deal on 4 x 410W full size panels with a bit of space to expand onto the rest of the roof though roof not enough for 6 big panels I would have liked. Unfortunately the smaller fill in panels will actually...
  • Post in thread: E02 Error - Revamped DIY Expansion Battery for Ecoflow Max 2000 - Now with HQST & Lessons Learned

I haven't seen any 24 + 24 balancers, the 48V ones are usually 12+12+12+12 A solid parallel charge would help, If you can adjust the charge voltage then I'd probably cap the charge voltage to 28.8V and let them sit in parallel at that for a half a day or so then up to 29.2 for a few hours until...
  • Post in thread: Detached garage requirements

The biggest draw is likely to be the inverter standby current if you want it live and ready to go all the time so you can open with a fob. Even a relatively efficient inverter will have standby of 10W so 240Wh per day, way above usage for lighting and running the door opener. Usually you can...
  • Post in thread: Victron mppt 75/15 bluetooth 0 amps 0 watts with lifepo4 12v battery. Help?

I had a similar issue with Renogy batteries. The batteries would show 13.1V and not take a charge. The batteries were actually fully charged. The issue was the BMS disconnecting for high cell voltage. I suspect one of the 4 cells was >3.65V therefore BMS went into a safe mode and shows a low...
  • Post in thread: Renogy - odd parallel behavior

Hi all, Joined today so I could view some of the images, so really didn't expect to be posting a question this soon. I have setup a solar shed as a project to get some experience over the next 12 months or so before commiting to a full house solar + battery install. Bought this setup about 6...
  • Post in thread: Does this mean its dead?

Do you need the enable switch you mentioned in an earlier post about this BMS. I notice the top right socket on the BMS has nothing plugged.
  • Post in thread: Renogy 3000 Inverter Charger Cuts off

One option may be to look at an inverter microwave. A conventional microwave uses a large transformer and manages the power level by cutting the transformer in and out. Low power may be 10 seconds on, 30 seconds off etc. This causes large surge loads. An inverter microwave runs at a constant...
  • Post in thread: Off grid office!

Doing something similar in the UK with an offgrid shed/workshop. 1640W of panels, 1200VA 12V multiplus, 2x 170Ah Renogy batteries with a Fogstar 300Ah arriving this month to hit 8kWh. Plan to add an extra 700W (4 x 175 Renogy Panels) as that will just fit in remaining space of the shed roof...
  • Post in thread: Renogy - odd parallel behavior

Will do I was checking if somehow there was a connection issue where I'd see different voltages The charger applied 14.4V across the terminals, so must be the BMS not accepting charge, hence the decison to apply a load to see if that would reset the battery. Agree, which is what lead me to...
  • Post in thread: How to limit charge current?

That is a very small battery for any kind of mains inverter use. Looks like ~4.5Ah at 1C discharge however for VRLA batteries you would typically only use 50% of the capacity to prevent long term damage so best case you can likely drive 25W for 1 hour. If you want to run a few 12V shed lights...
  • Post in thread: Off grid office!

Somehow missed the Craig Solar site. I've been looking for somewhere that sells panels in a range of sizes to find something that fills the remaining roof space. I can just fit 2 pairs of Renogy 175W, but they seem a little small for the rating and only just fit which will make mounting quite...
  • Post in thread: emergency power setup if grid goes down

On a long, bright sunny day, a 400W panel may provide enough to recover the SLA batteries from recharging 1 x LiFePO4 100AH In heavy cloud it could take several days, if not the best part of a week to charge 1 battery. Agree with above, better to have extra Lithium and just swap when charged...
  • Post in thread: Renogy

I think the products are OK, just the technical / customer service at least through Amazon UK. I had an issue where the 170Ah batteries were suddenly disconnecting while charging, then only showing a terminal voltage of 13.1V. The batteries would not take any further charge. On discharge with...
  • Post in thread: Renogy - odd parallel behavior

After another couple of days testing, the battery actually seems fine. Having left the 'good' battery installed, I found when the chargers (MPPT and Multiplus) were off it also settled at 13.1V post sustained float charging. Really odd to have both batteries showing the same behaviour so I...
  • Post in thread: Renogy - odd parallel behavior

So to follow up... my issue seems to be an increasingly dud battery. I checked today and the smart shunt had reported ~ 13V battery voltage in the night after both batteries had been floated all day at 14.2V. No loads other than the MPPT and Smart Shunt, inverter was in the off position. Split...
  • Post in thread: Off grid office!

Definitely a lot of data you have there, what do you use to host? I keep meaning spend some time setting up some decent data logging but always seem to have lots of other things to do. I have a couple of Pi 3 / Pi 4 that might do the job with SSD for storage. Grow wise, I was hopefull just to...
  • Post in thread: What’s the smart move here?

Those bus bars are not suitable for the inverter, you would need to connect that straight to the battery. They will work OK for cigrette lighters, lower DC loads etc. I use several of the less expensive amazon 300A M10 x 4 bus bars (brass). Nothing wrong with them for this current. I have a...
  • Post in thread: Off grid office!

The ratings seem OK. Yesterday was an oppertunistic hot weather test. I started early afternoon once the shed was reasonably warm inside after cooking in morning of direct sun. Insulation helps as keeps the heat out and so it was pleasantly warm inside vs the melting hot of pre-insulation. I'd...
  • Post in thread: Off grid office!

I have an 8A victron orion 12 to 24V converter cheap from Ebay which is rated at 95% efficient, I actually use it for faster charging of small Jackery style solar power stations through the MPPT fron 12V. I don't think it's sealed so might be possible to change the regulated voltage or make a...
  • Post in thread: Renogy - odd parallel behavior

Capacity >90% at >12.2V under load end of discharge seem fine. Once the BMS cut trips in, the battery won't accept any power, I tried this with a bench PSU at 14.4V and no current would flow so I don't think floating will help as the battery just sits until it gets a significant discharge...
