Finally making some progress on my porch roof. This is going to be 24 panels, and will be a 2 part.
Materials is 2" square tube with 1/4" sidewall. I just got the base structure up, no bracing or webbing yet. It was the hard part, the rest is easy.
Got the legs stabalized with some wood...
Turns out, they're not so bad.
After tripping one under load of about 100a when it was supposed to be rated for 150a, I replaced it with a 300a.
I use them for battery disconnects. Sure they're no midnight solar's. But I use them to disconnect battery power flow. Not for actual breakers.
So...

Good morning. Went out and got a nice haul of fresh eggs. Wife made me 3...
I've never seen them blatantly refuse to identify themselves. They know what they're doing is wrong and a violation of the constitution. Coming soon to a neighborhood near you.
The other day it was dark and stormy. High winds were forecasted after 4" of rain in 24 hours. The probability of a grid outage was high.
My wife sensed this. So, she gathered all the laundry and ran the dryer as hard as she could, because she can't do laundry when the power is out.
By the...
Ok so this was absurdly more difficult than it should have been, but it's done.
In just 8 short hours, I figured out how to rotate SA and get touch screen to also rotate.
SA image is installed on debian 12 bookworm, but it's UI is chromium based, so no rpi stuff works, and no normal debian...
When comparing a professional installation to a DIY install it's hard to draw parallels as far as expenses, but there should be some overlap.
I feel like if I would be charged for something for a professional install, I should be able to claim it on a DIY job. There are certain expenses on a...
I had 4.2kw of panels and a growatt 3k inverter and a 15kwh battery. Good size, right?
Then I accidently bought 28 more panels for $25 a pop.
So now I'm up to 9600w, i need to get more inverter. At 9600w, I can take care of 90% of my power, so I want to do that. The growatt's are stackable...
Don’t do it if a storm is coming.
Heavy rains and wind. Power is out. And I’m at 3% SOC.
Only half my house is transferred to solar since I’m not done moving breakers too. And that means I haven’t hooked up my whole house generator yet.
I reduced consumption to the absolute minimum and am...
With Russia yet again threatening the west with nukes, I thought it might be a good idea to spread some information that I've learned so far.
The blast will probably occur in a city, or all the cities. If they do it, they'll likely go all in with a 500 nuke strike. How many will actually make...
This will be interesting.

I know if my VOC exceeds the max VOC of the inverter, magic smoke. But what if just add an extra string of panels? That would generate more power in low light or less than optimal conditions. Will the inverter just not use the extra power generated?
Say the inverter takes 4000w, as long as the...
I can't say I saw this coming, but at the same time, not super surprised. A friend from slovakia defended what they're doing.

Not really a complaint, but more of a suggestion.
I'm seeing an increasing number of one hit wonders, single posters posting links to bogus products, which I'm assuming are a flat out scam at best, or actually dangerous at worst.
I would suggest maybe a 5-10 post count before being able to...
Peco has finally decided that ToU billing is for me.
Even without solar, with batteries only, I could charge my batteries on super-off-peak, and run the house, and go from 19c/kwh to 8c/kwh.

I'm curious how prioritization works on these.
For solar-battery-grid, if solar isn't enough, will it dip into battery for only what it needs, or switch to battery entirely?
For solar-grid, without a battery, the same thing. Say the load is 1000w, and solar is only producing 500w, will it...
I found this previous thread, which has pretty sweet info.
https://diysolarforum.com/threads/growatt-spf-3000tl-lvm-es-off-by-0-5v-on-battery.66974/
However before I do this, @timselectric posted his 3 inverters showing voltage drop of 0.5v between #2 and #3.
When I tried this, it seemed to...
I have a growatt LVM-ES SPF 3000TL. I want to get 3 more and parallel them. However, I would like to do split phase where 3 are on L1 and 1 is on L2. The only thing I need split phase for is well pump (20a) and mini split (15a), and not at the same time. I feel like it would be more to my...
Should I top balance my 16s battery now or wait until it's time to put into production in about 2-3 weeks? I still have to finish the power room, racking, inverter wiring. Which wouldn't take much but I have other projects going on and working and wife and kids and the whole lot.
My cells are...
I'm genuinely curious why people are choosing mobile solar when the vehicle itself is still very dependent on gas.
Please feel free to elaborate on your vote.
Do they load balance when pulling or supplying power? Or does one go to capacity, then when it hits capacity spins a second one up?
This is the SPF 3000TL LVM-ES.
I thought this would be an easy task, but it looks like my bms SOC was more off than I thought.
At 11pm I was at 8% SOC. Wife kicked off the dryer, which quickly drained down to 5% SOC. It's been a while since i've been at 0% and my packs have been shutting off at 83% due to voltage cutoff. So...
I have a JBD 1-17s 100a for my 16s 280ah cells. The BMS came pre-wired with 2x 10awg on each side. I thought I need 1awg for 100a, the surface area of 2x10awg is ¼ of 1awg. Will this be ok?
I'm looking for visual inspiration of some bus bar designs. I'm looking for 4-6 15kwh battery connections @100a each, with 4x 3k inverters. I'm building one battery/inverter now, but will be looking to scale that out in the future, so i want that capability. If anyone has a picture of what they...
One of my biggest motivations of building out a solar system is getting truely off grid, and that means everything, vehicles included. Which means I need sufficient production to also charge a vehicle.
My current system I'm building is 4.2kw with a 3k inverter and 15kwh battery, but once...
I have my batteries in a sealed and insulated cabinet. Does the bms generate any measurable amount of heat? It's in the basement on a concrete slab. Should I put it outside the box or is it ok inside? The box is almost the exact dimensions of the cells. It's a sp17s005 16s bms from BHU.
So I'm running power to my shop. 100a of power. My EV is in my shop, so I want a 40a EV charger.
I have ToU billing, so I only want to charge on super-off-peak times.
I was thinking, put the shop on grid power during super-off-peak time, but move it back to inverters during the day time.
I...
With my configuration and space constraints active compression is going to be very difficult. However, I have rolls of kapton tape. I was going to wrap them in packs of 4, then wrap the entire thing. Will that be enough?
They are lf280k cells, the tape is 2" wide, I was thinking a strap on the...
I recently bought the oukitel and paired it with 2 240w sharp panels in series to power my deep freeze. It's been working great, with one exception.
In the evening, when there is just barely any light, the panel input is registering 000 watts, but a trickle is flowing through periodically. Any...
The manual says 50cm down from ceiling. There's no vents on the top. I'm guessing it's due to fire hazard?

I have 2x growatt 3k's, and a bunch of 240w panels. The growatt has a 4000w mppt with an operating voltage of 120-250v and a max amp rating of 18a.
Initially I was going to do 6s3p with 37voc so as to not go over 250v, but after will'ss recent video, I did some math on the voc, and it looks...

I'm ready to move my range over from my grid box to my solar box. Wire doesn't reach. For other 12-14ga circuits I've run extensions with wire nuts in junction boxes. Is there some sort of mega wire nut that takes 4ga?
It's basically glorified coded responses. It's not going to replace people's jobs any time soon.
However, it is very good for somethings. Technical questions. I regularly use it and abuse it like a rented mule. Not only can they answer technical questions, they show their work, so you can check...
Hello, i have many plans for solar and power. I have an engineering background and am pretty handy. I just built my garage, and had the trusses engineered to take 6000lb of solar panels, but I want to start small first.
First, I'm going to build a trellis off my back porch that I want to hold...
I'm going to have to temporarily put my chickens in a shed with now windows for a few days while I make some modifications to their coop and run. It'll be fully kitted out with everything they need, with the exception of light. Chickens lay based on their light cycle, and no light will really...
Who has the most?
My system is just getting started, it went partially live on 11/10/24.
I made a whopping 244.4kwh.
Hopefully 2025 will crush that number.
If you have a monthly breakout, what does it compare to to pvwatts predictions?
It's literally the first sunny day since I've gone live. So I'm finally able to see the energy produced vs potential energy.
I have 5640w of panels in place on my patio roof. The roof is angled at 18 degrees. The sun is 37 degrees off the horizon.

I am getting conflicting information regarding 3.65v.
One source says after you reach 3.65v and the amperage drops to 0a, to not leave the cells at that SOC for more than a few hours as it can harm the batteries.
Another source says after you reach 3.65v and the amperage drops to 0a, to keep...

I'm a jump first, look later type of guy, but I'm not sure about this.
I have a 3kw growatt, a 15kwh battery, and 4.2kw array. I set my inverter to stop discharging the battery at 20% capacity remaining. The sun sets, the battery is at 100%, the panels go dark, and I'm using 1500w of power. I...
I have a power meter on my mains, by efergy. And I'm charging my batteries right now. My efergy monitor is reporting 4700w, where my inverters are reporting 5700w pulling from the grid. Not to mention, I have a couple circuits on my main panel pulling about 300w. So there is a 1300w discrepancy...
In my shop I have radiant floor heat, except I never hooked it up. It's a hot water system. Due to complications of inflation, I still don't have the 400' of 0-4 wire run to the shop from the house, so my electric hot water and circulation pump system has not come to pass at this point.
That...
So not to long ago, my inverts switched from solar to grid mode, when my batteries reached 48v. They're going to do that until solar kicks on, since I have solar first
I want to switch back to solar before the sun comes up, regardless of what my battery voltage is, so I can utilize my...
I have this AIO battery/inverter/mppt, but it's solar input is 33-60v. My panels are 37voc, which means unless it's peak production, I'm not getting solar.
The question is, victron has this 48v mppt. Can I hook my panels up to the victron 48v mppt then send that 48v out to the solar input on...
I like to think that I don't sniff glue, but I had a thought in the shower last night.
I have a small array I'm building, 4.2kw. I'm picking up a growatt 5k grid tie inverter. The inverter needs a sine wave supply from the grid to start taking power from the panels and supplying it to the...
I have 6 panels in series on the roof, and a growatt inverter in the basement. My first idea would be to just strip off some 14-2 romex and put on some mc4 connectors then toss the roll off the roof then drill a hole in my house, and pull it through then make the appropriate connenctions to the...
If I set up a small grid tie inverter on one leg and it produces more power than is consumed by that one leg, will it flow back through the meter, then to the other leg? Or will it hit the other leg before hitting the meter?
I'm making a panel roof over my patio, and I want to have it be water proof. I was looking for something to cover the seams between panels. I'm screwing them from the bottom. I like the look of the underside of the panels.
