---ORIGINAL TITLE----
Best charge controller settings to achieve 10%-90% usage on lifepo4 ?
EDIT-UPDATE and the ANSWER to this question. . . This post is a accumulation of all the great and wonderful information given to me by all the great people on this thread. I consolidated all of this...
Alright guys, I just want to say I am thankfull for every ones input. . I really really appreciate it. . so far after ABSORBING all this great information [pun intended lol] this is what i have came up with for others who are looking for a quick reference on settings for maximum service life...
thats my same belief. . , if in theory these batteries can last decades, them im gonna do my damndest to make that happen, to all those who dont care and have the resources to drop stacks on battereis when ever they want. . . great for you!!!, and this thread isnt for you. but for those of us...
actually watched a bunch of his vids to day, but still overloaded with info, when im really just looking at what voltages to set these charge controllers, i love data but to much data makes it dificult to know what actually set the charge controller at. .
i spent quite some time reading that graph and doing my best quantify that into tangible statement, but not sure how exactly . . . would you mind summarizing in a way that. seems like great data, but very hard to summarize, i will add it as a link tho
my goal for both me and others was to have...
the problem. when ever the mpp is on bypass mode there is no voltage on ground BUT when ever the inverter actually starts inverting power, there is 110 v in reference from the ground lug on the mpp and to the actual ground. . i am so puzzled. I was still in process of trying to diagnose this...
that's pretty cool . . .so your running 3.52 for the bulk/absorb and then 3.4 for the float , thats awesome they have lasted so long. . . . . . my goal is to set it up right the first time and not make mistakes with a very expensive battery pack ., or as they say "Set it and Forget It" ...
that really is the goal of this thread. . a single compiled source that lists what parameters are needed for optimized conditions for the longest service life possible ..[tempature got added to the list later because of its massive potential impact on long service life. . i spent 15 hours...
I
I dont mind I just want the ability to add any points that are brought up to the main post, any it becomes difficult when its to much data, BUT with discussion comes great knowledge which i am grateful for, I just want a way to cliff note this data to add to the main post. .
Thank you Steve
This the type of tangible information im am looking for , I am personally aware of this BUT did not take into consideration that others may not be. . . and it needs to be added to the post because of this. There are several people on this thread saying this is wrong or that...
Thank you every one for your respones, so to summarzize I should set charge program settings to the following
CC bulk----------- 3.45v per cell------13.8v----27.6v----55.2v [ upto 3.55v if you have balance issues but lower for longevity]
CV absorption---- 3.40v per...
JUST A REMINDER, if any one wants to contribute to the main post on the best controller settings, please try to format it into bullet points / digestible tidbits of information /cliff notes. . there is so much great information here BUT if its to much it becomes very difficult to summarize...
I asked tom 2 times to let me know what to correct on my main post and he straight ignorned me,
But ironically he wrote, this:
. . . At the end of the day were just a little bit different, not saying tom doesnt have knowledge and expreience. i actually would like his input on any issue i...
i agree, BUT again i had nothing to go off beside scattered tidbits of info from every where that was not digestable, where does one even start. . my goal when starting was to find the ideal settings, as you likely noticed the paramters i posted were not static but dynamic, ever number on the...
wow guys thanks for all the responses i greatly appreciate it. . . I kinda took a leap of faith and tried it, its just about full sun and i was getting about 390-410 watts, I tried hooking a 3rd panel in a string it was a 98 volts open circuit, , this unit supposed to be rated for a 100v...
so would 3.45 not hit 90% i noticed you said with your 280ah cells. you only got to 64% SOC.
were running 120ah cells
our goal really is maximum service life and we over sized the system accordingly The total is 6.3kw but with the 80% goal in mind it gives us 5kw which is exactly what we...
Never got response since i posted this thread, But but Mpp did respond to me in email so i am attaching there email Just in case other people need this help. . Screw 1 in my image is the correct screw . .

Hi Mike,
The...
Thanks for the response guys, Cinergi. The reason I am asking is to find a way to legally hook up a non listed UL inverter for a generator port for emergency purpose but keep it legal. .. .i know you mention the bonding neutral only needs to occur in the breaker and im aware of that, just...
I figured it out as to what was occurring. . its a brain buster to figure out but seems to be spot on. . . the inverter has a 220 hot and neutral. the inverters neutral is bonded to the case of the frame. . . the power jack auto transformer takes the neutral and makes it a hot 110. ...
I have a mpp 6048mt that im trying to remove the neutral ground screw from and cant seem to find any information on it. In my research i found some people in these forums who mention there being a neutral ground bond relay on some models. This seems to be the case on mine. . There is ground...
the neutral is bonded out side near the main breaker. . . the original panel on the inside did not have a main breaker, I installed main breaker on that panel for the sole purpose to shut it off to use the generator interlock and back feed that main panel, to think of it a different way the main...
from my understanding just about all simple box store generators predator and champion need the same thing . start wire for 2 seconds and kill switch swire for 2 seconds. in this day in age there has to be a simple solution but can seem to find one that is affordable , they all run like 300 and...
on a 20 foot cord to 12 awg cord from panel to mppt i got a max of 445 watts a couple weeks ago on hot and dry panels. now i am on a 150foot 10awg cord and am peaking at about 420 with wet panels, but its averaging 380-390 watts, [ 50v 7.8 amps] , 10awg is rated for 30 amps but i guess...
your best solution is the soft start like others have said there about 300-400$ https://www.microair.net/ 14 amps is 3360watts, so I would check with a meter tho, 2 1/2 ton only pulls2200 watts which is lower than the listed current . I would presume yours is about 2800 watts running. I've...
Thanks pollen face, didnt not know that, every where i read it says 520 max, but that leads us to our second problem , when these panel companies list power outputs we all know we never get that, its ussualy 70-85% of the listed panel output, so when a charge controller company says 520 max, or...
There goes another issue is if i call a solar company there going to want to sell me a 30k system? I asked a friend of mine and he told me that all the code inspectors interpret the law different want things different His exact words were John wll say you need to due A B and C and then Joe will...
so to convert what you said into settings for longeveity would it be "
bulk 3.45v per cell 13.8----27.6----55.2
float 3.4 ____ ---- 13.6----27.2----54.4
absorption [what would you recomended] [ i know this is not needed but required for most charge controllers...
I guess the big issue, is we as a solar community have no choice BUT to set these numbers on these controllers,. . .
Bulk/Absorb
Float
Low voltage cut off
. . .. I know its not the ideal way to manage it BUT its the only way that 90% of currently available and affordable charge controllers...
Maintence, guy the other thing i get confused on is , for these number are those settings you put into your charge controller OR are they resting voltage numbers, thats the other major hurdle is determing what voltage since, loaded voltage and under charge voltage numbers can be drasticly...
can you legally hook a split phase inverter to an existing generator port?
Just curious if this is legal, I tried searching if portable Generators are required to be UL listed for temporary hooked up to a legally installed generator port but it seems the answer is no however there trying to...
For example i am using a tracer 40a at 12v mppt,. Its listed maxium is 500 watts at 12 v, i currently own 4 250w panels. if i hooked 2 panels ie 500 watts I get 250-300 watts until its high noon than i get about 450 watts, at arround 9am i only get about 200 watts, however for testing...
So I have some mppt 5048 I'm in Florida [2 days before milton] and I have a delusional optmistic idea that just maybe I can find a decent BMS that's affordable and have it shipped here in time so that I can get my larger system running. Does anybody have an amazon over night recommendations...
So I accidentally bought these two BMS not realizing that the separate Port was an issue my question is what would happen if I tied the two ports together or more appropriately is there a way to make use of these things. I say this because I'm using a MPP all in one and it's a waste of money to...
thank schism for the response, I guess my concern comes from when using non ul listed inverters legally in a permanently installed installation for a home is currently on grid but at the same time using your solar inverter for a dedicated isolated off grid sub panel . i here so many...
you are correc i should have said sellers , but still it remains a massive question as to why battle born and others ecomends using 100 SOC% when this goes against common knowledge . . in the FAQ they recomend storing them at 100 SOC . we all know this is wrong, but yet they insist on...
tom please do clarify what exactly is wrong, im wish to correct any errors to the main post, i want to take all data into consideration for that write up in the first post, again my goal is a single place where others can go the have all the details how to program there controllers IF maxium...
Looking to get a new AIO . I have used several mpps and they have proved to be extremely reliable for me, however powmr, has caught my eye, the biggest reason, is price, most of them ship free, while mpp is 150-170 or more in shipping on top of the list price [even when dealing thru alibaba . ...
so i just confirmed i actually do have the AN model . . . its the tracer 4210AN :( right now its 2, 250w panels in a string, and then when i connected the other 2 it was in a string so it was 2x2 , you saying the AN is a bad scared the crap out of me , not litterly lol but is deffinitley...
