The voltage range and cycle life are problematic. But I expect we'll see substantial improvements in the next few years.

  • Post in thread: Battery Storage vs Solar Panels - What is your thoughts?

In my region my consumption was heavily skewed towards cooling in the summer months. My consumption essentially doubles for 4 - 5 months of the year, as compared to winter. My objective was to cover my winter and summer usage, with storage for hours during summer where the panels couldn't supply...
  • Post in thread: APEXIUM (APEX) DIY 280 BOX - EXCELLENT VIDEO

Got everything working this past weekend. Took a while to get the quick connectors since they came from China. Sol-ark 15K with 10.3 kW of Jinko 425 solar and 45 kWh of MB31 and LF304 cells. I had to build one box with the LF304 because the MB31 were out of stock. Batteries are paralleled via...
  • Post in thread: Build a Battery … Where to start?

My wife would never let me leave everything out like that. She might complain even with the boxes. What are you using to keep the bus bars and terminals covered? I was planning on shrink tube for the flexible bars I have on hand.
  • Post in thread: Battery back up without solar

I've been looking into doing something similar. I use about 38,000 kWh annually, including my vehicles. During peak months, around 40% of my consumption is outside the free night plan hours (smart meter). I estimated around 14k for 80 kWh of storage, which includes a buffer to limit degradation...

Bumping. I'm looking at the connectors at the store below. Will they fit 2/0 cable? These things seems difficult to source. Is there a m8 lug terminal that will fit? https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256805477582133.html
  • Post in thread: Tewaycell 10kwh Sodium-Ion 48V with Built-in Inverter

I'm curious as to whether the tradeoff of lower energy density and specialized hardware is superior to insulating and heating a LFP battery Ping Will, maybe he can test one out.
  • Post in thread: Seplos bms 3.0 multi battery pack monitoring (MQTT & Home Assistant)

Hi all, I just wired three 15 kWh packs in parallel using Seplos 10E v2 and am about to connect them to my Sol-Ark 15k. Can this be be used to monitor the pack charge state over time? I'm trying to top balance them now, but I'm tired of using the Seplos Bluetooth tool because of the limited...
  • Post in thread: Solar Assistant, Deye w/Seplos BMS

Are you using voltage for the Battery -> Inverter connection, or some other method? If I switch everything to RS485, I won't be able to use CANbus for the battery -> inverter connection.
  • Post in thread: Tewaycell 10kwh Sodium-Ion 48V with Built-in Inverter

@Will Prowse Will, any interest in testing out one of these all-in-one SIB units?
  • Post in thread: Seplos V2 10E RS485 w/ SA and Deye/Sol-Ark

Hi All, I have a Sol-Ark 15k and 3 batteries with Seplos V2 10E. The Seplos packs are configured in parallel with bus bars and are wired to the Sol-Ark using CANbus. I had an issue with one battery misconfigured and limited to 10 amps that caused a voltage imbalance with the other two packs...

  • Post in thread: 3.65v

Didn't want to create a new thread for this, so I'm resurrecting this one. I have 48 LFP cells, a mix of 16 LF304 and 32 MB31 for three separate DIY box builds. I discovered it's taking forever to top match by charging them in parallel, so I purchased a BMS and will now charge in 8S series using...
  • Post in thread: TEXAS: So I got New Solar, Batteries, Now what? Electrical Contracts? OMG my head is spinning

I'm looking at 10 kWh of Jinko 425 with 60 to 90 kWh of DIY assembled packs and Sol Ark 15k. Estimating Around 25 to 35k before the credit. Any alternative panels comparably priced? I was looking at Q.cell 405 but don't see a benefit to the price premium.
  • Post in thread: MB31 balancing, which power supply/battery tester

I wired mine in 8S with a Daly BMS and charged to 3.5V with a 30V DC charger. Then I rewired in parallel and topped off to 3.6V. They settled after that, but after sitting for a few weeks I put them in a box and hooked them up. I've been monitoring them for the past few days and they're all...
  • Post in thread: Seplos battery cables

My Seplos style quick connectors arrived today via Aliexpress. They actually came five days earlier than anticipated. I swapped my cabling from 2/0 to 1/0, which seems to fit perfectly. I also confirmed they match the connectors on my Apexium box. I have 45 kWh, so I won't be pulling more than...
  • Post in thread: Seplos battery cables

Odd that seemingly no one has figured this out. The connectors supplied can't accommodate a wire gauge large enough for a 15 kWh battery box.
  • Post in thread: Wiring Outdoor Inverter to Indoor Battery

My installer suggested my Sol-Ark 15K inverter go outside. My batteries will be in an Apexium box in the garage. I have one unused conduit line going from the panel to a covered plate outside. Can anyone point me in the direction of a wiring guide for the batteries? I know the wire is supposed...
  • Post in thread: Build a Battery … Where to start?

Just wanted to chime in and say this is a helpful thread. I have 48 LFP (LF304 x 16 and MB31 x 32) batteries and three Apexium boxes I'm preparing to assemble and the info here has been great. Please keep sharing and include plenty of product links and add some setup photos! One question...this...
  • Post in thread: Solar Assistant Load is not correct

Thanks, I tried changing this setting but it didn't fix the issue. Edit: on further review, the Inverter isn't capturing grid load when there's no sun either. I think the issue is with the Sol-Ark, not Solar Assistant.
  • Post in thread: Battery back up without solar

I'm at 12.6 cents currently. Free nights are around 23 cents during the day with no delivery charge. With a delivery charge days are around 18 cents. I would do a 36 month to mitigate the risk of the plan going away. Break even would be around 4 to 6 years I think, depending on the cost of other...
  • Post in thread: Solar Assistant, Deye w/Seplos BMS

So, just to be clear, SA can connect to both Seplos BMS and Deye/Sol-Ark using Dual RS485 to USB converters? The reason I'm asking is that I had Canbus from Seplos to Sol-Ark and RS485 from SA to Sol-Ark, but I want the individual pack data available via RS485 in SA. So I guess I just need to...
  • Post in thread: APEXIUM (APEX) DIY 280 BOX - EXCELLENT VIDEO

I went with the Apexium due to availability, as the warehouse is local to me and I needed to get everything assembled by year end. How are people handling the breaker omission? Supposedly they added one, but I haven't even cracked mine open yet so I don't know what's included.
  • Post in thread: TEXAS: So I got New Solar, Batteries, Now what? Electrical Contracts? OMG my head is spinning

Not really sure that's a benefit? There's no residential credit tied to the manufacturing location that I'm aware of. I know buy American is a thing, but my budget is limited, so I can't do it solely to support domestic manufacturing.

By threaded rods I thought he meant the terminals. I completely missed the photo.
  • Post in thread: Wiring Outdoor Inverter to Indoor Battery

Bump. The Sol-Ark 15k has been installed and the bottom inlet panel is very crowded. Just waiting on the battery build and wiring now. I have three, 300+ amp-hr battery boxes that I intend to wire in parallel to connect to my Sol-Ark 15k. The Sol-Ark is located on the exterior wall of my...

  • Post in thread: Solar Assistant Load is not correct

As it turns out, they weren't needed. My system is configured with the Sol-Ark between the grid and my panel. There's no sub panel and all loads pass through the Sol-Ark. I switched the mode to grid selling... despite the fact that I'm not selling, and it reads the grid consumption, solar, and...
  • Post in thread: APEXIUM (APEX) DIY 280 BOX - EXCELLENT VIDEO

No breaker, just an internal fuse. But this box does have a power switch. I'm going to mount an external breaker for each pack, along with a t-class fuse and disconnect switch for the entire 3P string. Now that I have nearly everything except the amphenol connectors and lug crimper, I'm debating...
  • Post in thread: Solar Assistant Load is not correct

Did you ever figure this out? I just connected Solar Assistant and am having the same issue. No load and a ghost battery.
  • Post in thread: Tewaycell 10kwh Sodium-Ion 48V with Built-in Inverter

It's an engineering challenge. I'm sure as the availability of the chemistry improves and costs decrease, more hardware with support for it will be released.

    Correct.
  • Post in thread: APEXIUM (APEX) DIY 280 BOX - EXCELLENT VIDEO

I'll definitely share. I'm trying to get the batteries top balanced now before I put them in the box. I didn't do the math on how long it would take to charge them all using parallel strings on a normal household circuit. Waiting on BMS now so I can switch to series, but I'll crack open the...
  • Post in thread: Battery Storage vs Solar Panels - What is your thoughts?

The panels could be larger challenge unless you have ample space. I can easily add another 8 or 9 boxes of batteries, as they're fairly compact, stackable, and DIY. But getting all the panels and doubling up inverters and wiring to accommodate additional solar generation would be hard. PVWatts...

Mine updated the load info today. I selected Deye/Sol-Ark in my configuration. Is there somewhere else where an appropriate option needs to be selected?
