As Gene Wilder said in Young Frankenstein "It is Alive!". I was able to procure a DC power supply and not that I have any load on the Trace inverter it did light upand allow me to go through all the user menu screens.
the first photo is the menu screen, the second is of the DC supply with the...
I really didn’t know . Previously I had FLA locomotive 2.2vdc that were 500ah at 6 hour rate (the FLA std) and a paper chart of what voltage equaled what SOC.
I’m now moving into the new battery age.
Now with our new CALT 302ah setup I will have both a BMS and a Victron smart shunt with BT...
Well I received the balance of my 16 unit order (48v system). I have not recieved the load tester yet so I still can't comment about their true ah rating, but I will say every cell looks perfectly flat and no markings, and they all measured exactly the same at 3.28 vdc. One other observation...
Well I received the first 3 boxes containing 4 of the 302ah units and 4 of the 173ah units. They look absolutely perfect, no scratches and no bulging and there does not appear to be any funny business with the QR labels. But there were no test reports included, but they did come with all the...
We have had an off grid cabin going on 21 years. I started in 2003 using a Trace SW5548 inverter with 8x Trogan T-105 batteries and 8x 60w solar panels plus a Trace C40 charge controller. After 6 years the Trogans were done, so I located some even larger locomotive batteries from Dyno Batteries...
First let me start by thanking this forum for giving me the "guts" (or one could say knowledge) to build my first DIY LiFePO4 battery bank. I built 2 banks of (16) 3.2vdc 302ah cells with a JBD 6S~21S 200A BMS with BT and heater control output controlling each bank. Everything was assembled...
Thanks Jim, I have been a member of thesamba for many years and there are many many many threads on both solar hacks and house battery hacks. I'm most excited by this group's knowledge of DIY LiFePO4 batteries. By buying the raw cells with an external BMS I hope to place 150 ah pack where one...
Well I can tell you that we have had an epic battle with these little critters (average 2-3 in the snap traps every visit) along with several wood rats which are wicked destructive. I will be securing the electrical covers over the terminal bay this time around for sure.
Nope, no bulging.
I really don’t care if these are grade A or B or Z. I just want to know if they have the capacity advertised. And if by my error did I loose X number of cycles.
At 168ah they are bigger (capacity) than anything ever put in the house battery location in a VW Westfalia, so...
After reading here on DIY Solar forum the proper method of verifying condition and then assembling a 48vdc battery bank, I have ordered the following from "BATTERY FINDS". I selected them over the "18650 Battery Store" because they as well have a US based warehouse (City of Industry California)...
F##K, F##K, F##K
Not Happy, I received the $40 load tester from Amazon, yesterday and was very excited to finally see how these 172ah batteries would perform.
So prior to testing, I checked the current voltage status and they were just below 3.50 at 3.48vdc. So I thought, I should top balance...
I need to update my old Trace C40 solar charge controller. My system will be 48V with LiFePO4 batteries and and currently only 1200w of solar. Which I hope to expand in the future to 2000-3000w.
Renogy MPPT controller @ 140vdc 60a input 12/24/36/48 vdc output
vs
Victron MPPT 150vdc 35a or 40a...
I have had an off grid cabin in the North Cascades of Washington state for 21 years and in the early days I had to lean in on my own mechanical Engineering degree to figure out everything from what equipment I needed, to how and where to mount the Solar panels. The online community has grown a...
I have had a Trace Engineering SW5548 installed at our off grid cabin and running continuously since first installed in 2004 so 18 years, no complaints about that.
However this morning I find no power on and when I investigate the inverter has shut down when I reset she runs momentarily and then...
Thanks this was exactly the kind of help I was hoping for. With the mounted location in our cabin and its weight, I might not be getting to this for awhile so I am going to cut and paste your response into my off grid note book.
Again thanks.
Hey Sunshine! You are by no means failing me. I if anything it is me just overthinking it. I had a 48v Chinese 3" submersible but the pipe ID is also 3" so it is almost like a piston fit. Why the PO only placed a 3" pipe is beyond me.
Thanking you for your support.
Sorry I was looking at the Quattro 48/5kVA as I didn't see and MP II config at 48/5k 60hz I was wrong. There is a local vendor for the Victron Multi-Plus II 48/5000 120 volt looks like a great unit but unlike the similar sized EG4 it does not incorporate any MPPT solar controller. So at $200...
I’m a little confused and concerned by your comments. Before I ordered my battery cells, I had searched this forum for any information about Battery Finds and there not a single post, so I went ahead with my order.
I will promise to post detailed photos when they arrive.
Okay now you got the better of me thinking about these batteries. The pricing was excellent, if truly grade "A" so, so if not. The other reason I ordered these was that the 173ah were a very unique case size, at at 174-207-40 mm. This size would allow me to place 4x173ah in our VW Westfalia...
Well my SW5548 finally let me down after 20+ years of faithful service. My main suspicion is the buttons on the HMI or faulty. The interface window is full of just random characters and the relays are going crazy in the back. The unit is in pretty good shape as it did not get "smoked" with and...
Well now with this information, I shut everything down for an hour and restarted.
Cooling fan came on (why? ambient temperatures are low 60’s) voltage dropped to 55-56 vdc as soon as the fan kicked off the voltage jumps to 71 vdc. Note I have checked between the actual and temperature...
Yes I understand that a motor load has a high inrush load to start it. I have searched for a lower hp or even a DC with a soft start but my well is too small at 3" diameter for a submerged pump. We have had this setup for the last 20 years and it works OK matched with the SW5548 which is a...
OK pulled the cover off and #$$&#&@@ damn mice POOP!
I have now cleaned the board and now allowing to dry. There does not appear to be any deformation (i.e. heat) to any of the IC's or any other components on the board. And even more unusual is that they didn't eat any wiring or insulation...
I have two 16 304ah cell banks that I had planned on connecting in parallel using two JBD AP21S004 200 amp BMS's for my Off Grid cabin.
Please explain the differences or benefits (?) between the JBD AP22S004 "Balanced short method" i.e. connecting s14 through s19 to the #14 cell verses the...
Yes these were my plans, but first I need to know I can access the SW5548 unit without removing it from the wall. My last time servicing I removed it to work on my bench, but returning it to the wall position almost killed me.
I have the JBD AP21S004 BMS connected to (16) 302 ah LiFePO4 cells i.e. a 48 vdc system. After leaving S15 through S19 as not connected as was shown in the first wiring diagram from the JBD Product Files Support site...
