I've tried to reach solar sovereign via email, phone, and chat with no response. We were in the middle of addressing broken equipment and now all their communication has completely ended. The conversation was not confrontational, and I've been patient (been since May)......so I just don't know...
I’m not changing the loads on the sub panel, just changing the source of electricity from grid to off grid PV. So sounds like I just saved myself some money and headache?
Your advise in threads previously have been very helpful, and someone once told me you can’t fire volunteers, so I welcome and am grateful for your ideas/guidance. I regularly get to 56V when I have PV charging it, but my quite a bit of PV so batteries don’t fully drain when PV is on and because...
@FilterGuy On July 29th I do see 136.3kWh, here is a screenshot directly from utility company. The summer hasn't been too kind to the Phoenix Arizona area. Paying $600/mo utility bills is a big driver in my offgrid solar efforts.
Thanks, and I have the same understanding of the panels in a given string being at the same angle/direction. The plan was for those 4 440w panels to be on their own string....but we can actually make it work to have them added as shown.
Thank you everyone for the responses, I think I have been able to get the information I need from the various insights; however, let me respond to the further questions/comments to make sure I do understand. I think I did a poor job explaining.
Point 1: I do agree that there may be cheaper ways...
Thanks, my PV wire is from Santan Solar, it's all good stuff, but much more robust/big than THHN and I plan to transition to THHN to save myself a lot of headache
Hello, does anyone have a way of contacting a person at Solar Sovereign? I ordered the EG4 18Kpv from them last August and now just commissioning today. (it's been a while, but I'm new and all DIY, so appreciate the grace on how long it's been.)
I opened the box of the split current...
Here is an updated setting configuration overview based on today's input from y'all.
I need to open the box for the 2nd battery, I've just been super focused on getting the 1st battery ensured its all good before attempting parallel. I will do that today. Also, if the inverter kicks over to...
Are you referring to "Discharge Current Limit(Adc)" that is currently set to 250. I want to say that I haven't touched that setting, but it's possible. Most configurations have been performed by SS, but I do want to note that they have been very responsive and supportive...they are also helping...
I just bit the bullet and ordered my eg4 18k inverter to force me to get serious about solar.
We live in the Phoenix Arizona area and this summer has been brutal. With a family of 4 young kids I don’t know how long we’d live without power.
Anyways, I see Will made a webpage and resources about...
Sorry for the confusion @sunshine_eggo , when I’m in SOC we have stop discharge SOC at 20%, but the when it’s at that percentage the power pro voltage voltage is at 52v.
I may switch the batter back to Li io so I can show the primary symptom more easily.
I think I’m starting to understand what you’re saying, and also opening a whole new world of PV strategy that makes complete sense, but I don’t understand how you pull it off.
From my understanding my eg4 18kpv and eg4 power batter should communicate very well….but how are you selectively...
@FilterGuy , sorry, I didn't know Lucid chart forced people to create an account, let me just share a screenshot, again, it's very rudimentary.
From a simly overview, do you think 1 EG418K + 30 400w panels (12,000kWh) + 1 EG4 powerwall would be enough?
I'm curious about that idea, between the 18kpv and the breaker box we have a 60amp fuseable disconnect. from the disconnect to the breaker box we are using 6 gauge wire which is the minimum. Should we size up the wire as well? @BKY2003
They haven’t mentioned that, is using a charverter a permanent thing or just for this particular exercise? I thought the eg418kpv to eg4 powerpro didn’t require it.
@sunshine_eggo , could I ask for your advice/thoughts on the current setting? Right now for some reason the inverter in running off of AC where I believe my settings are such that the battery has priority with AC charging.
Right now the battery is reading as 47.3v but SOC is 52%. The eg4...
I only have one powerpro connected, I haven’t installed the 2nd in parallel because I was informed I need to get the first battery working properly in Li io and SOC setting first. When two batteries work together they will work as efficiently as the least efficient one or so I’ve been guided...
Hello, does anyone know if there is a way to get longer paralleling cables to parallel a 2nd eg4 power pro battery?
I will need to move a gfci outlet in order to place the battery close enough to make the cables work, so if there was an option to just get longer cables that may be simpler.
It's been about 5 months since I installed my EG4 18kPV solar system and Powerpro battery. The installation was easy, but I'm having trouble getting the most out of my system.
My house was built in 1960, and a previous owner added a new section with its own electrical panel. The EG4 system is...
@fnnwizard , I’m happy to share data. I believe the only sensitive data is the serial number column, correct? I can just null that data out and provide the rest as is. I can do so via a Google Sheet to make it easier too if you’d like.
I do not need/have a desire for the standard AC charging to...
Hello, I’d like to seek this community’s advice as to why my 18KPV is not properly charging. I’ve been working with signature solar (@SignatureSolarJess ) for a couple months now. They always take my call and always respond to email, but I feel like I’m just sent is circles with no progress...
I believe the timing charging is for those who want to do so by preference due to cheaper rates at certain times. I'm not concerned about that, more of just having it work properly.
If it can stay in Li io and charve based on volts where it doesn't start charging until 46~48v and stops at...
I was one of the people who saved a few $ when they first came online about a year ago, no issue there, but I’m concerned about product warranty coverage.
@EG4 Electronics James
@FilterGuy , I am looking at improving energy efficiency as well as produce our own energy. For example, the house was built in 1960 and most windows are single pane.
My thought I'm trying to work towards is to have the system use solar panels to power the house + charge enough battery...
@FilterGuy ,
So I have a boxed EG418K sitting in the garage and it's time for me to get serious. ?
I have created a dashboard of energy usage by day and then also my max & average by hour by day to understand the demand. My next step is to purchase an EG4 power wall (the new 14kWh) and 30 (a...
We’re on half acre in the Phoenix az area with flood irrigation so we are able to enjoy large trees around us, but we still get plenty of sun in the valley of the sun.
I think with our roof facing directions, angles, and trees shading different areas at a time that running panels in a series...
Hello. We’re near the end of our diy set up but have an ask. In our home we have 2 circuit breaker boxes, main and sub-main.
Sub-main is powered by a breaker from main.
Our 18kPV is powering sub-main only. As a backup on a cloudy day or extreme heat I’d like to have the main panel have a line...
For battery, I am currently planning on one eg4 power wall (14.3kwh). Can you help me understand the last paragraph you shared? I don't quite understand. If you're up for it. I can DM you and share the entire design plan that provides more detail if you're up for looking.
Here is the data history: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nIWyRFgFNjdNukUtO-KNEkQWFf3g2vF9PGsh4EUB3uU/edit?usp=sharing
When I log into monitoring from the desktop and go to configuration It shows me my device or station when I click on it it just sends me to the overview page, how do I...
I hired someone to create a design plan for my solar panels. They used a satellite image, so the measurements aren't exact. I'm attaching a picture of the proposed layout. It shows 4 panels in a string running over a flat patio roof. However, instead of placing another row of panels on the...
@420hmsPA, We have two systems, 1 is a 5 ton HVAC system another is a 3 ton HVAC system. Do you live somewhere warm? hah, I know there is a lot. trying to tackle it from both ends, reduce consumption and produce my own.
I’ve nearly made it to the finish line. I have a PV electrician helping me with the last few steps with a 2nd breaker box/bus bar that I’ll disconnect from our primary box. The primary box will remain grid-supported while sub-panel will be off grid. I’ll slowly pull lines over from the main to...
Just 1 powerpro battery. And I’m fine having PV+battery handle things and then switching to grid by pass in the evening.
This was mid day to where the battery +PV was enough.
Also, the magnetic type clamps that go around the load arrived broken from solar sovereign and haven’t had luck getting...
I'm making great progress on installing roof top solar and found that I can actually include a few more panels in the plan. I'm trying to guestimate how much electricity the system will generate to see if I should buy a few more. Can someone with more knowledge than me affirm my understanding...
Is it ok to run the wires of multiple PV strings in the same EMT conduit to the inverter? trying to think if I need 3 sets of conduit for 3 PV strings or if I can try to have them all in one conduit.
Also, for the EG418KPV, PV input 1 can take 2 series but I hear they have to be identical. My...
This is what I just got back from signature solar on the question, “Panels on MPPT 1 (input 1 and 2) must be equal in module count, type, orientation, and shading. If they unequal, you will see a drastic decrease in power output as the entire array will drop to produce the same as the lowest...
Thank you for the continued support, Hedges. The inverter will not backfeed to the grid. The idea with that manual transfer switch being that if the PV system can't keep up that I flip that switch and have the sub panel be powered by the main panel as currently exists.
My hope is that the...
We’re finally up and running and have enjoyed the setup thus far, but I need advise on two things, but first, context:
context 1: I’m working with the 18kPV inverter. I have 3 series functioning right now. I have a place on my roof where I’d like to put a 4th series which would run in parallel...
We not looking into a manual transfer switch, here is a bit more explanation of our set up, sorry if I was initially confusion.
The set up we’re going for with our 18kPV
We’re using the 3 PV inputs. The Load will be tied to a sub panel. This sub panel was previously powered by our main panel...
Hello, for my rooftop PV system I will have 2 series on the east side and 1 series on the west side of my roof. I've seen/heard of system that all have a dedicated, separate grounding wire for each series. I've also heard of people grounding the series together so there is only 1 ground needing...
What if I put series 1 and series 3 in parrarel into the 1st port? I think I’m reading elsewhere that orientation doesn’t matter if it will take the average of the two?
I guess I need to find panels that can get me to that 410v that also satisfy the wife’s aesthetics review ;)
the 18PVK has 3 inputs (2 can parallel in the 1st input), I will have a total of 3 strings and planning for a 4th one in the near future, so I'd like to use the 1st PV input as parallel if possible.
Hello, for the 3pv inputs which have a max of 600 voc, I’m having a hard time correctly finalizing if I can run 12 or 10 in a series, let me attach an image of our panel data sheet.
I understand for ambient temperatures down to 31 degreees I multiply voc by 1.10.
That electric guide was...
Hello, we finally came online this morning! It's been since last August until now, mid-April. But we've learned alot, haven't died nor burnt our house down. We have 3 series running, but only 1 seems to be producing. Any advice on where to start the troubleshooting? see attached image.
Thanks everyone. I’ve been on the fence about another battery but I guess I know what to do now.
Can someone help me understand why the wall mount battery plus 8,000watts of PV input still isn’t enough though?
Good morning @FilterGuy , we’ve been up and running for a couple weeks now. We have 3 PV strings. PV string no2 is working but strings 1 and 3 are not.
I had a solar electrician come out and test things out. He said he’s getting one amp per RSD module on the strings, each string has 10PV...
@G00SE , PV 1 & 2 face East on pitched roof. PV3 faces West on back side of the pitched roof. PV 1 is series of 10 panels, PV 2 is a series of 8 and PV 3 is a series of 10.
The city has approved my plan and I’m ready to connect everything. My plan was built by SanTan Solar and they were great to work with. I am performing an off grid set up. My home has a main and sub panel breaker box. I plan on connecting my PV system to the sub panel for now and not power the...
@Hedges , are you saying that the orientation doesn’t matter for two strings that are ran in parallel into a single PV input such as the 18kPV first input?
Yeah I don’t think I’m confusing positive and negative lines with grounds, but grounding everything into. Junction box that then goes into our attic so there is one ground for all series will save on some conduit costs. ?
@FilterGuy , you've helped respond to my questions in the past and I have questions similar to this thread so thought not to start a completely new one.
I am only using a Tigo's RSD, no optimizers or anything, just RSD. the 2F version for 2 modules. Question, do I need any accompanying receiver...
Thank you all for the help and expertise. I’m going to get the additional powerpro and also finish my 4th/paralleled series before the end of the year.
What I just don’t conceptually understand yet is why a fully charged powerpro+7kw of PV isn’t enough to handle all that.
Also, I’m curious why...
@FilterGuy
If I use the TS4-A-2F, And install them on the modules per requirements, do I need to do anything else besides place the PV wires into the PV inputs within the EG4 18KPV?
When you say "the AC bypass power" are you referring the value for "Max. AC Input Power(kW)" so it should ready "19.2"?
I'd be happy to switch to lithium mode. Do I do that by changing "Battery Type" to "2: Lithium" ? Do I need to change any other settings? @fnnwizard
