    Sol-Ark 5k, 4 months old

Hello, all ... I purchased a Sol-Ark 5k this past August 2021, but recently upgraded to an 8k. The 5k worked very well, but it's limited to 6kw of PV (which I have) and I wanted the option of expanding should I need to. I paid ~$5000 including tax, and I'd like to sell it for $3500. I'm in...

    BigBattery.com 48V LAMA - LiFePO4-115Ah-5.3kWh

The 4 Llamas I have are also working well, and i'm getting about the same levels of performance (44.x cutoff).

    Sol-Ark confusion

Yes - the Sol-Ark, additional panels and batteries are now working as expected. The issue was incorrect placement of the current transformers (let me know if you want the specifics). Sol-Ark support, as always, was _very_ helpful in working with me to find the problem and fix it, and I can't say...

    BigBattery.com 48V LAMA - LiFePO4-115Ah-5.3kWh

I had issues with one of the 4 Lama's I bought a couple of months ago, as the BMS seemed to be doing some weird things. They replaced it, no hassles at all, with another that is working much better.

    Sol-Ark confusion

Yes, the majority of the issues I experienced were due to either misplaced or miswired CTs. Now, the Sol-Ark is performing really well in a grid-tied TOU context, and these batteries I purchased are finally being used. As soon as the permit is approved, the next phase will occur - that being...

Limited to 100 amp service from utility - options for more PV?

No, but I found out that the panel was actually rated for 125a, even with my 100a service. So, I was able to put a 30a breaker in there to handle the additional 3kw of PV that will be going up there soon. The permit hasn't been approved yet, but the designer tells me that it should be.

    Sol-Ark confusion

This problem has been solved, and now the Sol-Ark isn't drawing 2x as many watts as it needs from the batteries to handle the house load. Sol-Ark support did have my Sol-Ark on an older firmware rev (left over from when we were trying to debug the TOU issues last week), so they updated it to the...

    Sol-Ark confusion

Sol-Ark support responded and said that when grid-tied, even using TOU and Grid Sell to zero the meter, the Sol-Ark will still draw a bit of power from the grid, and that this is normal. Regarding the 30a breaker, it is the appropriate size for the additional PV I'm having installed soon...

    Sol-Ark confusion

I have mine set to 20w ("zero export power") as well, but the Sol-Ark still seems to want to draw a small amount from the grid even though there is plenty of PV and battery. It's almost always 80w or less - at night often 20w or less - and is more than offset by the extra power I'm sending to...

    Sol-Ark confusion

Yes, I did the auto-detect when I reconnected the CTs. It's dark now, but I can post a photo tomorrow. It's not 100%, but this really is a positive step in that I'm finally actually _using_ these batteries. Many thanks again :)

    Sol-Ark confusion

Also, the idea is to eventually make this system off-grid capable. My plan: 1. replace dead Delta inverter with Sol-Ark 5k 2. add batteries (4 BigBattery LAMA units in parallel) 3. use Sol-ark as a grid-tie / battery TOU system until permit for adding 3kw of additional PV (the current system...

    Sol-Ark confusion

I tried this, and it seems to be working, but with one caveat. I wrapped each CT around 1 wire from the 100a breaker and 1 wire from the 30a breaker (one CT for the leftmost wires and the other for the rightmost). I then enabled Limited To Home and TOU, and the Sol-Ark is indeed drawing from the...

    Sol-Ark confusion

The breaker is on the main panel bc the original installer of this solar system (previous owner) put it there. I think moving the breaker would require a permit change, wouldn't it? I'm thinking that the original installer put it there so that the PV could be shut off from the outside, though I...

    Sol-Ark confusion

Yes - I believe they're going to the panel in the garage with all of the house breakers. The idea is to eventually turn this into an off-grid capable system, but I'm still waiting on the permit for that. What I am able to do without a permit, though, is replace equipment, so when the old Delta...

    Sol-Ark confusion

Yes, that's exactly the cause Sol-Ark support determined as well. They said the best option was to install the CTs around the bus bars - if only I can find a set that will fit.
