Another way might be to just use a esp8266 with a one wire temperature sensor , you could actually put multiple temperature sensors on an esp8266 and label the source of each sensor. I use Tasmota and makes it very simple to use one wire sensors and make the data mqtt.

If you put the current in you will be able to tell more of what is going on, but you would need to be able to see the current going to or from the batteries and not mixed up with loads. Does your battery monitor have a shunt and tell you the soc value ?

Glad there is a that works with Seplos . The project I linked can get data from all the batteries that are linked together with just the one connection on the lead battery. It also gets all the alarms too.

If it was me - I think it would be a lot easier to just replace the bms with something like JKbms that is already known entitiy with all the open source comms already figured out. There are some models jkbms that are less expensive too. Look them up on aliexpress.
