    When I was with ABB I often found (what I thought) were new innovations for controlling motors. I would go to my boss with my ideas. Most often he would smile at me and say,"The Fins are already doing that." Those Fins are very good engineers :) I am old now but that is how I remember it.

    Pretty amazing to find someone online from US that knows ASEA/ABB, let alone their history!
    ABB is still quite large employer here in Finland and Vacon is nowadays part of Danfoss.

    As it happens even my drill press is powered by ABB vfd, running under DTC (direct torque control) ;)
    I studied electrical engineering in university of Oulu but never graduated. Been working last 15 years in calibration laboratory and electronics are (mainly) just my hobby.
