Update - I received the replacement 6500 just before the storm hit, will return the old unit as soon as we dig out :)
I was going to wait a few more days before posting but figured I would do it now in hopes that all is good.
Observations so far-
Negative:
The new inverters mounting flange...
I am with you, I just found out they also discontinued the 6500ex. I started with one last spring and ordered a second last week, sales told me they oversold and discontinued the 6500ex and they will let me know if my order was affected. I didn't know I bought into a short term solution. :(
I had also turned off my LED bar and had the same faint red glow. When I tried to turn the LED light bar back on, it didn't work, I wasn't really concerned about it as I didn't see any real value in it.
One day I totally shut down my unit, disconnecting it from PV, Generator and Battery, when...
Well my light bar is on and I can turn it on and off without issue at the moment. I had previously turned it off and it wouldn't turn back on. One day when I totally shut down and restarted the system it came back on and has been working since. I had made a lot of settings changes in between...
Thank you - I will check this post - I have seen the same issue if I flip the solar disconnect as well. The big issue is you just don't know what you don't know. When the system is operating correctly and you do this the end result is the same, when there is a problem it will correct it and the...
Thanks for that tip, I will remove the paper and let it be.
I spoke too soon, we still have issues with the MPPT but so far only on cloudy or partially cloudy days, waiting for a full sun day to validate. In either case it doesn't seem as dramatic as before.
We have the same firmware on this...
Hi Bill,
Hope your problem gets solved quickly. It appears there was a short inside of ours, no explanation, replacements are scheduled to arrive today.
Best to you,
I believe it will, but it has been so long since we had to do a morning reset that I can not say for certain. I will see what happens today, the sky should be fairly clear and we are down to ~40% battery, I will refrain from throwing the switch as long as I can.
It is not easy to do so.
Well...
Yes I have, We are now awaiting a call from their "Resolution Specialist". The Resolution Specialist will be in touch with you directly within the next 72 hours to discuss the replacement/resolution options. However, please note that our team will do their best to get back to you as soon as...
No your not.
I will check that, I always watch the wattage of the PV input and the battery charge rate (or discharge).
Yes voltage 101 > 353
That is unclear, in the winter we have a lot of cloudy, partly cloudy and sunny days. When it's full sun and the fans are screaming and the unit is...
I have one of these and yes the wires seem crossed, it is top left to bottom right and vise versa.
I recommend that you check this with a multi-meter to verify yours is the same. Simple just do a continuity test.
I will try this - Our big issue right now is with the PV controllers - I tried PV2 and have the same results - we need to interrupt the solar input at least once if not twice a day so that the input increases and properly charges the batteries.
Trying to patiently wait for the fix. Thanks James
PV Input issues:
(1) I have to restart or power off the inverter daily then power it back on in order to get the proper solar power from PV1. As as example to today, this morning PV1 was showing a measly 100+ watts of power coming in, I knew this wasn't correct, although the sun just crested...
It appears that the cable they send me for the EG4 > Battery communication only works one way, if I swap the ends I get a 61 error, if I flip it back the error goes away. I labeled my cable so that if I ever disconnect it I won't get it backwards. Do you still get error 61 if you reverse the cable?
Well you may be correct there, I am holding to see if these hold up. I figured they all couldn't be this way (defects) or there would be a lot more issues posted here. If it keeps working the way it is, I like it. Maybe its a manufacturing flaw or QC issue somewhere I do not know.
Does yours...
My temporary 12 panel array is setup with 3 panels on a easy fold able stand (adjustable for tilt) in December tilt of 75 deg now sitting at 50. It is made up of 3 - 10' 2x6's and 4 - 8' 2x8 and 2 - 8' 1x4's, 2 door hinges and some screws. The two 2x6 (Top & Bottom) are screwed together with two...
@w8dev I do not have a way of monitoring the system with a camera, I checked it this morning and it was at 0 watts then the next time I checked it it was at 43 watts so I missed that window.
In response to the time of day or multiple times a day. Today I thought I would ride out the storm and...
The firmware version shows U1: 79 & 63 and U2: 61 & 12
I have a single string of 10 SolarEver 410 watt panels in series (noted below). They are on a temporary ground mount, they are connected by a 131' 8 AWG wire fed through a IMO DC Disconnect switch and into the EG4. (I have been advised that...
About 450 miles or so father than you, last week I had the same order in my cart and shipping was $364 - My first order shipping was a $100 for the battery and then ShopSolarKits $200 dropped shipped from SS - Now $1500? I think they are broken. Have you used the Tess batteries?
Hi,
I am new to Solar and am building an off grid system as time and money permit. So far I have a EG4-6500 with EG4-LL batteries and 10 - 410 Watt SolarEver panels. As is on sunny days the system runs basically everything I need it to run, I am saving for more panels and additional batteries...
I have a single EG4 6500 - I have spaced out the equipment and have it ready to add the second 6500 as that was the original design. I am not sure at this point if we will need the extra 6500 for additional load or just additional MPPT's but that is a separate discussion.
The input AC side of...
@BenFromSignatureSolar
Looks like you are correct - Now awaiting contact from the RMA department.
This is a bit concerning, even more so after reading @Zwy posts. So now my situation looks as if I am now expected to box up the unit (loosing all solar power to my home when I turn the unit...
@Zwy - Finally got around to pulling these. Thank you

I do not know if they (SS) are over extended or just dropping the ball.
BTW - I just watched your video on grid charging the batteries, very nice, thank you.
After a really cloudy / snowy day and a half, we had a great sunny day today, basically recharged both our batteries while powering the...
Hi,
I have a 6500EX-48 with a single string of 10 SolarEver 410 watt panels with plans to add a second string this summer / fall.
I started monitoring the PV input as I have questions to whether I can safely add more panels to this array.
The manual shows 4000W per panel and a max 18 amps...
Hedges, thank you for taking the time to put these articles together. I have skimmed a few and will read through them. Not pretending to understand most of what I am reading.
I currently have a string of 10 - 410 watt panels facing solar south, I plan to add two more strings of 10 panels for 30 total panels. I have a single EG4-6500EX at the moment. I had originally planned to add a second one for additional load and PV inputs, as it looks over the last 3 months of...
Hello,
I am planning my off grid solar system, I am currently on grid and intend to pull the plug. I will need to do this is steps so my plan is as follows.
I have a 6 circuit Generator Transfer switch installed next to my main panel (200 Amp) in my laundry room. I want to extend the wiring...
@Zwy Which issue do you think may be resolved if I change to USE, the blinking issue or the lack of power from the PV input? Let me see if I can the proper settings for USE and the EG4-LL batteries and I will try that although I don't understand the correlation.
@Zwy - I have set 05 to USE and disconnected the comm cable, will see what happens as it can't be any worse.
I heard from SS that this is a known issue and they are working on a fix, hopefully will be available soon.
Thank you
No the shunt is not connected to the MP. The GX is getting battery info from the MP. I will get a VE.Direct cable and see what happens. I do not know what the settings are on the MP, I thought I would be able to see those with the CCGX but I can not. This system was originally installed by the...
Has anyone else had such issues? I originally had bad strobing issues and signature solar replaced my unit. My system has been running good since November 2023 that is until last Friday 6/7/2024.
I opened a case on Monday the 10th, have spoken with 3 different people (Eddie, Rodolfo, Ethan) and...
Hi, I need help and advice retrofitting a system that came installed on a 5th wheel trailer we just picked up.
The system consists of
Victron Multiplus II (12 | 3000 | 120)
Two 4s 280ah batteries with Overkill 120A BMS's
(has reptile heat pads on Renogy battery box)?
2 Renogy Rover Elite 40...
What is the IV curve? what thread is that?
As far as the timing goes, it is repeatable most every morning (99.9/100). Since we no longer trust the system, after we reset the system in the morning we have also decided to check it later in the day. After a while you can look at the sky / sun and...
I am hoping someone can help figure out what is wrong or what to do. I am concerned that my units are dead and I am not getting help from Signature Solar, they keep assuring me that someone will help, but that hasn't happened yet.
I was going to keep one 6500 for a backup - but then I used it...
I will try to get those tomorrow. Thanks
Long delay - sorry been away

Are these two companies the same? I placed my original order through SS and after waiting impatiently for 14 days to receive my order (shipper) that I placed my next order from ShopSolarKits.com plus it saved me ~$50. Today I received this order and the shipping receiver has Signature Solars...
I have a Victron Multiplus II in my trailer, two 280 ah 4s LifePo4 batteries, I have the BMV-712 Smart Shunt (not connected to the Multiplus) and have a Color Control GX connected to the Multiplus.
The batteries are at 13.74 volts and the BMS (overkill) and the BMV-712 report a SOC of 99% and...
Hi I am looking for suggestions and tips with my conduit run as I will be moving my arrays to their permanent home and wiring.
My runs are going to be ~125 underground, then another +/- ~100' along the base of the house (under the deck etc).
From past recommendations we have settled on...
I have disconnect both units and tried starting each one independently, I did this at first by turning off breakers / disconnects then by physically removing the cables.
I have started each battery (4) (EG4 LL-S Lithium Battery | 48V 100AH | Server Rack Battery) one a time following the...
Thank you - I am awaiting a response from Signature Solar (not holding my breath, still awaiting a answer on my generator issues from 1/30/23) - I have sent a message to Ben as well, thank you for that contact information.
Hi Zwy,
SS had me update the firmware - not all issues are resolved, they also had me change some settings - are you asking for all the settings from 01 - 99 on the LCD?
I just downloaded the firmware and want to make sure I don't mess things up.
The README.txt file states: Run both *.exe files in the two subfolders to complete the firmware update. The order in which the files are ran does not matter."
However only 1 folder contains an .EXE file and the...
Yes space is an issue I didn't mention. I plan to add a 2nd Multiplus II in the future as I plan to add a 2nd AC unit and believe I need a second inverter to handle the load, also plan to add two more 280ah batteries if possible. If I use the Lynx Class T Power then I need the Lynx Distributor...
I would be curious to know if someone could help me with similar settings on a 6500ex. I have it now using battery communication and it will charge from the grid at 20% and stop at 25%. I would switch over to user settings but not sure how to get the same results with those settings.
Thanks
I have a EG4 - 6500EX and due to my Northern US and cloud condition I would like to over panel (safely) and reduce the cost of the wire run if possible. The estimated distance from the proposed panel location is just under 300'.
I currently have 12 - SolarEver 410 watt panels and had originally...
Thank you for the clarification - I am ~20% higher than listed. and pretty much in lock step with w8dev. I would think that this and a lot of the EG4 documentation needs updating. Has anyone every read that small book that comes with the 6500EX? The settings on the first pages conflict with the...
Well I guess my blinking lights were not fixed by the firmware upgrade, they maybe less frequent but it is hard to tell as there is no rhyme or reason to when they occur. The lights flashing were so bad last night that we shut them off and used candles, candles are nice however I would prefer to...
The EG4-6500EX-48 has 2 individual MPPT trackers, its my understanding that the strings on each do not need to match. Here is a snippet of the specification sheet.
Thank you
Hi,
What is the concern if any being near electrical equipment such as All in one inverters, batteries etc? I have been told and want to verify that it is not safe to be near such equipment. Is there any truth to this? Although in separate rooms our inverter, batteries and critical load panels...
@Zwy @w8dev Thanks for all the input - I haven't had yet had the opportunity to try this. As mentioned chasing the flicker or having the flicker issue at at opportune time is also a timing issue. Sometimes it is there, sometimes it is not, but when I sit down to dinner and the dining room lights...
I have the Nader breaker but I am looking for the lug or more exactly the copper U that the connects too. Does anyone know where I can get just the copper bar and lug? Thank you
Thank you for the advice on the install. I believe the system has been installed correctly and I did have a review of the system by members of this forum as well as another installer. I do have the LL V2 and LL-S series batteries, and fire isn't a concern (any more than any other storage /...
Here is the specifications - Are the numbers above Open Circuit or MPPT Voltage range - I suspect the latter. If so then the 10S1P maybe to close to the limits?
Also thank you for the computation for temperature. That is really straight forward when you understand a working example.
Thanks again.
Hi Adam,
Yes, the other inverter is disconnected with the Nader breaker open, I also tried removing the battery cable from the unit at the bus bar, just to be sure. Same result both inverters (although one was just used as a solar charger)
How are you Adam, we haven't spoken since my light...
Hi dcg981,
Thank you for that information, so I would then need to change my battery to ID2+ power cycle the BMS and then connect the supplied cable? So with that do i use the rs485 port or one of the battery ports to connect to the PC?
Thanks again.
If you are comfortable with a soldering iron you can remove the wireless module. It is in the main display soldered in with 4 pins. I do not know how this would effect your warranty but a person with moderate experience should be able to heat two pins at a time and lift one side, then heat the...
Do you travel with your RV? If so will you ever experience colder temperatures? I don't believe the EG4 batteries will work in sub freezing temperatures, this may not be an issue for you if you never travel to colder climates.
