Not sure if there is enough functionality on the HESP in Solar Assistant to do that or not, there are several settings that don't work on it the same as they do other SRNE inverters and a lot of the HESP specific settings haven't been implemented in Solar Assistant. I stopped using it a while...
  • Post in thread: SRNE 12kW IP65 HES and 10kW ASP

I just want to put in an update that I'm now having good results on the HESP with running closed loop with a slightly increased bulk voltage (to 56V, which really seems to result in the inverter charging up to about 55.8V) from what I was using previously, and using Inverter Logic selected for...
  • Post in thread: SRNE 12kW IP65 HES and 10kW ASP

I think I have a possible theory why the voltage spiked. There are 2 different registers available over RS-485 that appear to refer to the overvoltage protection voltage, though the names/descriptions are ambiguous as to which is the actual overvoltage protection limit that shuts down charging...
  • Post in thread: Problem with JK-BMS B2A24S20P, both showing identical problem with cell 9 on 2 separate batteries

I just want to note that on my packs I see cell 9 read as slightly higher than other cells due to the higher resistance (longer) busbar at the "bend" right up until the pack reaches the voltage knee, at which point things flip and it is almost always the lowest cell until everything balances...
  • Post in thread: SRNE 12kW IP65 HES and 10kW ASP

The cells aren't amazingly balanced, mostly due to this behavior cutting off the balancing cycles, but I also wasn't seeing any hit or really come near the OVP threshold. Charging off a bench supply at the same voltage showed a nice continuous current plot, though admittedly the available...
  • Post in thread: Help needed: looking for a CT

One option that hasn't been discussed is to move as many circuits as possible to one or more separate panels downstream from main panel then clamp the CTs on the feeds between the panels (as well as any circuits you couldn't move.) If you don't have circuits already split between critical and...
  • Post in thread: SRNE HESP no CT power reported

Yeah, I mostly just had been making updates as I needed them, looks like your commits since I forked should be relatively complimentary with the ones I've done, a few of the same things done but overall the sum should be greater than the parts. The options making the script crash was one of the...
  • Post in thread: 10 KW AC hybrid inverter - which one?

Run 2p10s on one MPPT and 1p10s on the other. It supports 25A per MPPT so no reason you can't parallel multiple strings per MPPT, in fact you have to in order to ever get to the rating of each MPPT since you can't go much higher than 11-12s without worrying about Voc when cold and 25A Imp panels...
  • Post in thread: 10 KW AC hybrid inverter - which one?

Hmm, basically the HESP but w/ beefier MPPTs and 200A bypass capability. Still only 2 MPPTs though. For the size of array listed I'd be surprised if the larger MPPTs would make a realistic production difference, but room to grow maybe.
  • Post in thread: Problem with JK-BMS B2A24S20P, both showing identical problem with cell 9 on 2 separate batteries

Oh, that might only be a quirk on the JK PB BMS, it has 2 B8 terminals. Some theorize that is because the 16s balance circuit is built out of 2 8s balance circuits back to back, thus the second B8 is the equivalent of B0 on first 8s. Under that train of through the first B8 on connector 2 goes...
  • Post in thread: SRNE 12kW IP65 HES and 10kW ASP

Old inverter was a Voltronic Axpert Max Ii (basically a LV6548, which is an Axpert Max I) I've moved the balance voltage a few times, but currently at 3.42V. I prefer to run my charge voltage near 55.2 (3.45V/cell) to minimize voltage related degradation at higher cell voltages and that should...
  • Post in thread: SRNE 12kW IP65 HES and 10kW ASP

I normally run closed loop with the maximum charge voltage at 55.2 through my BMS (actually I use YamBMS to combine multiple JK-BMS with more configurability than the default JK parallel implementation, but I get the same behavior direct from one or both BMS as well,) but this is what I tried...
  • Post in thread: Solar Tax Credit

Mind you should use the 2024 definitions from Energy Star: https://web.archive.org/web/20241230224552/https://www.energystar.gov/about/federal-tax-credits/air-source-heat-pumps since things changed for 2025, getting rid of the regional requirements and instead allowing the use of Energy Star...
  • Post in thread: SRNE 12kW IP65 HES and 10kW ASP

I will add that the measured current actually does align relatively closely between the Emporia and what the inverter reports. Unfortunately, it's hard to show this clearly since current isn't reported through Solar Assistant and the screen updates relatively slowly (I also can't take the...
  • Post in thread: SRNE HESP no CT power reported

The MPPT scan blips only last a few seconds w/ no error. They also are on a regular interval (hourly more or less.) According to the manual, error 10 is boost overcurrent, which is a bit of a weird error, not sure why the MPPT boost converter would be drawing more current than it can handle...
  • Post in thread: SRNE HESP no CT power reported

I have a few USB to RS-485 cables that came with my JK BMS's.
  • Post in thread: Problem with JK-BMS B2A24S20P, both showing identical problem with cell 9 on 2 separate batteries

Yeah, a fraction of a percent more resistance which results in a fraction of a percent more voltage drop than other cells, which is all we are really talking about when we are talking about single digit mV differences during bulk. Not a problem on its own, but if any "balancing" occurs while...
  • Post in thread: SRNE 12kW IP65 HES and 10kW ASP

The packs were both initially balanced, the level of balance degraded with the cycling since I switched to this inverter but has been improving after I tweaked the voltage so it keeps the pack voltage above 55V during cycling. I also did some manual balancing when I had the bench supply hooked...
  • Post in thread: SEI/SRNE 12kw inverter shutting off PV circuit

What firmware do you have? There is a bug in the latest version a few of us got from SRNE that causes the MPPT to shut down when battery goes to "Not Charging" state, even if there are other loads or export the power could go to. This is the version seen with the issues, but could affect...
  • Post in thread: SEI/SRNE 12kw inverter shutting off PV circuit

You are on an older version, might be a different issue since the bug I'm talking about was seen on the latest version (Jan 2025 build date.) The previous version I had before (101 minor version on version screen) didn't display the behavior. To update the firmware you have to request it from...
  • Post in thread: SRNE HESP no CT power reported

Yeah, I see the same thing on my HESP, consistenly every 30m there is a sharp drop then recovery. I know there was another thread I read noting this behavior on SRNE equipment, theory was this was just how they implemented the algorithm to rescan the maximum power point. Mind depending on the...
  • Post in thread: SEI/SRNE 12kw inverter shutting off PV circuit

Yeah, I edited my previous post after originally posting, but using https://github.com/timbit123/srne-modbus/ to get the data over MQTT.
  • Post in thread: SRNE HESP no CT power reported

https://sky-lights.org/2020/04/20/cloud-edge-effects-on-solar-arrays/ You can get a spike in current due to more production right when cloud passes due to higher than STC insolation on the panel. Doubt it would be large enough to cause this issue on the MPPT though especially when not...
  • Post in thread: Problem with JK-BMS B2A24S20P, both showing identical problem with cell 9 on 2 separate batteries

The balance current is never constant since the way the JK BMS implements it is using a high cell to charge a supercapacitor, then dumping that charge to a low cell. It's also more effective at pulling down high cells than bringing up low cells due to the process not being 100% efficient.
  • Post in thread: Problem with JK-BMS B2A24S20P, both showing identical problem with cell 9 on 2 separate batteries

All my data was from the JK PB inverter BMS, but I suspect you would see it on any BMS capable of active balancing when you have unequal resistance busbars. It's going to be less likely to occur on BMS with passive balancing as they pretty much by definition only balance at absorption since they...
  • Post in thread: SRNE 12kW IP65 HES and 10kW ASP

That's what I thought might be happening, but it was only getting to 55.0 when it was set to 55.2, and when I bumped it up to 55.6 then 56.6 it was still showing the same behavior and bouncing off of 55.0V, you can see that in my first plot. Reported inverter battery voltage seem to sit about...
  • Post in thread: SRNE HESP no CT power reported

We actually already had the discussion about firmware version one page back on this thread 😁. Your HESP didn't come with a wifi stick in the box? Mine did, but the interface is super clunky and it conflicts with monitoring over USB/RS-485 so I disconnected it about an hour after I first tried it...
  • Post in thread: SRNE 12kW IP65 HES and 10kW ASP

Saw a UI difference (display of CT measurements) in another thread compared to my HESP and curious what firmware versions everyone is running. Has anyone gotten a firmware update from SRNE, or is everyone still running what shipped on the inverter? Looking at the manual for the HEBP there are...
  • Post in thread: Through 11/19 48vDC LiFePO4 50ah battery for $221.40

I bit since I am upgrading my main inverter and this would pair nicely with my old one for a handtruck solar generator setup. I had figured I'd grab one of the Eco-Worthy/DC-HOUSE 48V 50A packs once they hit an especially good sale, but this is nearly $100 less than the cheapest I've seen one of...
  • Post in thread: Solar Tax Credit

The official criteria for 2024 tax credit eligibility is based on CEE tier, so refer to the final 2024 lists here for a list of all eligible units by region: https://cee1.my.site.com/s/resources?id=a0VTR000002WdoH. I see an EG4 2k on the north region eligible list, and 2 different EG4 1ks on the...
  • Post in thread: SRNE HESP no CT power reported

@empowered Hey, I just noticed that when I was re-configuring some strings on my HESP, I actually did get error 10 to show up, but in my case it showed up as PV AFCI Fault in the historical fault screen under the history section, rather than PvBoostOCSw that is what is shown for error 10 in the...
  • Post in thread: YamBMS JK-BMS-CAN with new Cut-Off Charging Logic (open-source)

For me an ESP32 devkit was unstable and rebooted constantly with 2 BMS over Bluetooth, but an Atom S3 (ESP32-S3) was stable with the same configuration. Only ran it that way temporarily before switching to direct RS-485 comms though.
  • Post in thread: Searching for 0%

You also can use YamBMS to combine one or more BMS (don't even have to be same type) with the shunt, then talk to the inverter via CAN. https://diysolarforum.com/threads/yambms-jk-bms-can-with-new-cut-off-charging-logic-open-source.79325/ Main reported voltage, SoC, power, and current all from...
  • Post in thread: SRNE 12kW IP65 HES and 10kW ASP

Has anyone else noticed that the AC power reporting on the HESP is odd. Like it doesn't seem to be calculating the real power correctly from the apparent power. I had noticed an issue with the grid reporting in Solar Assistant that looked like it was just SA reporting apparent power instead of...
  • Post in thread: Help fusing inverter to battery

That appears to be an oddball 4KW variation on a Voltronic Axpert VM II series inverter (normally 3KW or 5KW.) It appears to have an internal battery fuse as most Voltronic inverters do (150A in this case) referencing this service manual: https://domosimple.eu/forum/attachment.php?aid=2395. I...
  • Post in thread: Rich solar RS-H6548S inverter for $750?

This unit is a US/120V version of the Voltronic Axpert Max 2 with minor cosmetic differences (https://voltronicpower.com/en-US/Product/Detail/Axpert-MAX-II-8KVA.) The LV6548 is a Voltronic Axpert Max, a slightly older model. I think the only significant differences are the screen (completely...
  • Post in thread: SRNE HESP no CT power reported

Yeah, I don't know if there is a pre-existing script that uses RS-485 though, have only seen the ESP solutions. And there are some downsides to using RS-485 too if you have parallel batteries, depending on which port and battery addressing you use in some cases can have read only access. I've...
  • Post in thread: 10 KW AC hybrid inverter - which one?

That's the full array though right? 2/3 of the array (what would clip, the MPPT with a single string would never clip) at 7600W would then show an equivalent peak at 7.2kW which is only 600W more than the rating of 6600W per MPPT. Think of how often you actually saw peaks that high, there are...
  • Post in thread: Electric appliance Usage calculation

Unless you are trying to go full off-grid, I'd leave the range as a non-critical load connected to the grid side of the inverter. It's not worth over-buying inverter just to power it when its monthly usage will be a pittance compared to other appliances. Especially if you are planning to replace...
  • Post in thread: SRNE 12kW IP65 HES and 10kW ASP

Anyone seeing this sort of charge cycling near 100% SOC on the HESP? Seems to ramp up for some amount of time, then suddenly switch to discharge mode, and then the cycle repeats. Seems to do it on both grid or solar charge, cycling gets more frequent the more fully charged the battery is...
  • Post in thread: SRNE HESP no CT power reported

I just started using your MQTT code as the current Solar Assistant support is disappointing. I like your HA dashboard in this post, could you put the config on your GitHub maybe? I know you originally mentioned adding JK support to the script, but guessing you ended up using one of the many...
  • Post in thread: YamBMS JK-BMS-CAN with new Cut-Off Charging Logic (open-source)

I think this might need some sort of hysteresis/recovery threshold. I was getting to just under UVP + 0.2V on a single cell and it was causing a loop where this would trigger and SoC would go to 0 causing inverter to stop discharge, after discharge stopped a few seconds later the cell voltage...
  • Post in thread: Apexium 15kwh moveable battery pack $1,300

I had actually considered picking up one of these batteries, and the undersized cables was one of the reasons that made me hesitate (well that and the oddball BMS and the "ESS" grade cells.) If the battery comes with undersized cables to connect to inverter, what is to say it doesn't also have...
  • Post in thread: SRNE 12kW IP65 HES and 10kW ASP

The strange end of charge behavior on this inverter continues. Today after cycling for a bit (but staying generally at a high enough voltage balancing shouldn't have been interrupted,) the inverter randomly shot the charge voltage all the way up to 59.3V, well above any setpoint programmed into...
  • Post in thread: SRNE HESP no CT power reported

Curious what firmware you are on, my HESP doesn't even seem to show the CT measurements on that screen. Instead have a broken energy reading since my grid usage was definitely not 0kWh. Can see they are doing something though if I turn on home load and check the load screen since it breaks home...
  • Post in thread: SRNE HESP no CT power reported

I had some connection intermittentancy using USB with either Solar Assistant or the srne_modbus MQTT script. Not sure it was the actual cable though since usually rebooting the pi fixed it. Hasn't happened in a while though so don't know if I maybe jostled something into working.
  • Post in thread: Electric appliance Usage calculation

Sounds similar to how my house was setup, main meter load center combo box outside, then a subpanel inside that had nearly all loads connected to it. Thought about moving the dryer and range to the external combo panel (wanted to keep AC/Heat pump on critical loads panel since in the summer when...
  • Post in thread: SRNE HESP no CT power reported

Correct, I have the CT hooked up and configured and can see the home load power on the main screen and the Load Data screen. I just don't have the CT Power (total measured CT power not subtracting the Grid power like the Home power displays) field on the Grid Data screen like you do, which made...
  • Post in thread: SRNE HESP no CT power reported

Yeah, ESP8266 tends to have lots of stability problems compared to ESP32 in my experience. I'm aware no RS485 adapter is needed if you use the USB port, but not sure how possible it is to use it with an ESP32, seems like the newer versions might have USB host support, but no idea if that is...
