  • Post in thread: Battery bank wiring to (2) EG4 6500EX--help?

I reached out a few times but didn't get any answer, which is what brought me to putting up these questions on the forum. Yes that makes sense. Thanks, Adam. Btw, how do you like the solar tracking software that you use(d) for your 6500ex setup? Great info in your YT videos, it's very helpful...
  • Post in thread: Solar newbie post - 32kw off-grid solar diagram, can anyone review?

Yes thank you, mrzed001! Our revised plans include both of those additional mentioned items!

    Perfect, I'll check there.
  • Post in thread: DIY 32.2kw off-grid Oregon farm system--advice?

Hey everybody, Well I signed up on DIY Solar Forum last year, which was when I did the bulk of the work on out off-grid system as far as purchasing and building goes. Now I'm at the point where I need to pull my wires, get everything wired up and turn the system on. I'm a little stumped though...

Gotcha, thanks Adam. Two more questions on this if you don't mind sharing your thoughts: Any idea if there is someplace that can make these wires for me with one end having a lug attachment for the inverter (and DC breaker) and the other end having the Pytes-style quick connect end? Do you...

    Thanks rodrick!

Wow I haven't seen deals that good but I'll check again before making this purchase. I'd prefer to go with 10AWG but at this point it's too expensive, which is why I was considering the 12AWG.
  • Post in thread: DIY 32.2kw off-grid Oregon farm system--advice?

Thank you, Peyton! But because the arrays are 300' from the solar shed and inverters, would it be acceptable for me to place one disconnect per array, limited to 6 per NEC, inside a weatherproof enclosure (as well as a "PV SYSTEM DISCONNECT" placard) at the solar array site as well as inside...
  • Post in thread: DIY 32.2kw off-grid Oregon farm system--advice?

Thanks, SignatureSolarJames. -DC disconnect by the inverters only Do you know if there is NEC code to back this up? I ask because our local inspector mentioned that he thought I should have DC disconnects there as well as a mounted placard showing clearly which disconnect shuts of which array...
  • Post in thread: Oregon off-grid system - Is this looking good?

Thanks, @JonnyWatt! It's been a steep learning curve as I'm not well-versed in electric in any way. I'm a sponge though when I get onto something that interests me and in this case it's not only interesting but it will also (eventually) save us $, so now I am even more eager to nail down the...
  • Post in thread: Battery bank wiring to (2) EG4 6500EX--help?

Thanks for the insight, Adam. I'll find out what the temperature rating is on those 72" battery to inverter cables and post it to this thread soon. Aside from the cable size, it would seem that a good way to connect our battery bank to the two separate inverters would be to take the + cable...

Hi nwmark, I did (roughly) account for the power drop. It sounds like you are already aware of this, but each panel's spec sheet shows the power you ought to get out of it in standard test conditions, as well as in more realistic conditions (higher heat, etc). I did my best to account for that...

Great, I'm going to check it out then. Not sure if they/you do affiliate links but if so feel free to send yours over to me to use. I appreciate the assistance today, Adam. (y)

I saw those new EG4 inverters as well, they seem decent actually, though you're exactly right about not providing much power. It would be great if we could coat the interior of our solar shed with a material that would protect all of the components inside (battery BMS, inverter electronics...
  • Post in thread: DIY 32.2kw off-grid Oregon farm system--advice?

That makes sense to me, thanks! Do you know what the requirements are for me to ground each of those 28'x12' arrays with 16 panels each? I have grounding lugs that will fasten to the superstrut, but I don't know whether I'm required to have a copper grounding rod, or something else? Each ground...
  • Post in thread: Oregon off-grid system - Is this looking good?

Hi OffGridInTheCity, wow this is exactly what I was hoping to hear from someone on this forum, thank you! I had the same thought regarding the total battery capacity. It's good to know that you also live in Oregon, so we have similar solar situations. I was also leaning toward beefing up on my...
  • Post in thread: Oregon off-grid system - Is this looking good?

Ah that's good to know! Ian told me the same thing. I hadn't thought about the EMP end of this. I know the Pytes has military spec BMS modules but I didn't think to check whether that somehow covers EMP. Am going to look into that further before I officially lock in with Pytes. Keep me posted on...
  • Post in thread: DIY 32.2kw off-grid Oregon farm system--advice?

Also, I just priced out the wire we'll need for the system (I was going to pull it in the coming weeks) and wow it sure is pricey. I had planned on going with 10AWG copper stranded THHN wire to reduce voltage drop a bit. But now I'm wondering if I can get away with 12AWG copper stranded THHN...

Hi All, I've been reading through a number of threads on the forum, it's great to see so much support on here. I essentially have no experience with solar but I would love to learn from some of you much more experienced folk out there on the system we are working on so far. We have 65 acres...

Hey everybody, I've been reading through a number of threads on the forum, it's great to see so much support on here. I have very little experience with solar but I would love to learn from some of you much more experienced folk out there on the system we are working on so far. We have 65...
  • Post in thread: DIY Pytes + 6500EX split phase wiring configuration questions

I'm still fairly new to most things solar, including wiring batteries. So I'm looking for some advice on the most appropriate wiring configuration for our off-grid setup. I purchased (5) 5.12kWh Pytes E-BOX-48100R server rack batteries several months ago and am now ready to install them into...
  • Post in thread: Battery bank wiring to (2) EG4 6500EX--help?

Thanks Adam. Agreed on the over current device--I have a 200a DC rated breaker that will be on the positive leg of each battery-->inverter cable, so one for each inverter, and each mounted inside an individual breaker box. Ah that's interesting. Here are the photos of the cables that shipped to...
  • Post in thread: Battery bank wiring to (2) EG4 6500EX--help?

Thanks, SolarPower. I'm curious how just one of those cables that run from the battery to the inverter (as described above to Adam) could end up needing to carry 13,000w. Wouldn't a single positive/negative pair of cables from the battery to the inverter only ever have to carry a maximum of 6,500w?
  • Post in thread: Battery bank wiring to (2) EG4 6500EX--help?

Seeking advice from anyone with experience wiring battery banks to two EG5 6500EX inverters. I am admittedly new to solar installations so I'd love it if anyone wants to 'dumb it down' and lay out the basics of why a certain wiring configuration should be used for our setup. Equipment list...
  • Post in thread: Battery bank wiring to (2) EG4 6500EX--help?

I'm also just having some more thoughts on the cable sizing. Would this be the correct formula to determine cable size between the battery bank and the inverter, assuming my setup was similar to this (but without the busbars--I don't have those and my server rack isn't designed for one)...
