I have no idea what OCP is. Mainly just trying to get more out of each SCC and not have to add more. The amount of usable power I have on the system is plenty coming out of the inverters to do what I need to do really. I guess it's buy balancers and series, buy new BMS and build my own 24v or...
I don't allow it but 300 amps. I over size inverters so it doesn't have to work it's butt off lol it runs every light in my house, microwave, wife's hair dryer and refrigerator at the same time with no issues. I tested it for ten minutes and nothing got hot and every cable was room temperature...
Yes smoke came out of it and I quickly disconnected it. I couldn't understand why because I have ran 100w pv 3s on it in winter before and it was just fine.
Thank you and yes I expect the same. If you ask me the 4 hour rule is a joke. Not realistic at all. Whatever kwh you use and divide by 4 and come up with you best double it. What a joke thinking otherwise. Ain't nobody getting advertised output of a panel in any 4 hours peak no matter where they...
Just wanted to thank everyone that has helped me here over the last year. I would've been lost without the guidance. I was finally able to set up a proper system with protections. This is fused to 150 amps. And yeah I know the batteries history but they have been doing good for a year. They...
Thanks Tim! I thought it would be okay just I'm only familiar with lead acid when it comes to series. I was thinking of getting a 24v inverter and step up but the balancing issue was definitely a draw back. Also I would need quite a few balancers. I wanted to get more PV input with my existing...
I have two 100/50 and two 100/30 victrons already and 4000w of PV in 4 different sizes and quantities that would pair perfect at 24v with what I already have. More scc's, wire, cable, breakers etc don't seem very cost effective at this point vs going 24v.
Thanks! I have done daily power audits for a year. I had the system going with much less with the intent to just run my freezers but it grew lol.
Our use is like clockwork seasonally. Right now my freezers only draw 800wh per day but that will turn into around 2,500 come summer since they are...
I have ten 100ah new and on a separate bank another 250ah so no plans to get any more as of now. I'm thinking of like you said trying two out at 24v with a balancer and just using it as a ups and see how it goes. Not much cost involved there compared to an entire change over. Thanks a bunch for...
I have 2 100w pv on 14 awg speaker wire 60 feet and have had it like that for a year now. 84 watt load. Runs just fine. I did protect it from the sun with conduit though.
It's my understanding "at least with a victron" as long as you stay with voc and amp input limits you're good. In this configuration he's within those unless I am forgetting something or missed something. Efficiency would be the only issue I would think. Seems I read something a while back about...
I can feed it by my calculations 200a as it is with 1,000ah and still be at a 2c charge rate. Problem with all in one at 12v is I can't seem to find one with any decent amount of power output. I'm currently running a 5,000w that runs all my house 120v loads. A 3,500 that runs my freezers, washer...
I can understand that. It was new in box on ebay for $150. I couldn't pass up a 5,000w pure sine wave for that little bit of money. Figured if I get a year out of it I'm not out anything. Also I have a 2,500w reliable power I run as well. A few others laying around for spares if I need them. I...
I was just curious as far as bus to inverter as well as scc to bus. Is it advised to count the length of switches/breakers and or fuse? My master switch for the inverter and fuse for example are on positive only. Do you add that distance it takes up into the length of the negative cable?
That would be awesome but 900 ah is what I have in 100 ah batteries. All new matching batteries. My load will be 30 amps dc with the exception of a 1,350 watt microwave being used for maybe 3 mins or the wife's 1,200 watt hair dryer for 5 mins tops. Those are the only large loads. They won't...
So as long as the sun of each 3p set of cables are equal length of with pos or negative makes no difference. That changes things lol seems when I first got started I read same length but that may have only applied to parallel scc's on a bank. My brain probably locked that in for everything.
Thanks man I was hoping you would comment. All my interconnect are as equal as humanly possible as well as positive and negatives to the bus.
I deducted from the positive cable only the distance from post to post on the switch. I assumed that added up to equal or close enough length for both...
Greetings all. I have a question in regards to changing from 12v to 24v. I have 10*12v100ah batteries and am looking at going to 24v so I can obviously add more solar per scc's I am currently running. I don't want to series them as they are. I'm thinking the better way is to remove the cells and...
I currently have 4x 100ah batteries interconnected with harbor freight 6 awg jumper cable wire. 2 awg from the bank to the bus bar and bus bar to the inverter (2,500 watt) Max dc load at start up is a brief 76.7 amps with a continuous 11.6 dc amps load and it puts like a kitten all day long and...
The panels isc is 9 amps tops and amps in series it stays that way so I can only assume it was voltage but it puzzles me how at 90 degrees voltage was over the 75 max limit and the controller was 6 months old so no, not an old manual.
So I gotta ask was it amps it volts?
3*100w panels 3s at 5.64a isc amps and 23.4 voc per panel air temperature around 90 deg. F.
I was under 75v and 15 amps so what smoked it? 🫤
Prevention is best for sure. Burning up a $200 cc don't sound good to my debit card 🤣
I plan to get a solar air heater fan and cool them just because but definitely if I slap 900w pv at it. When I had 900 hooked up before I may have just been paranoid about how war it got. I had literally just...
Happy Friday. Two questions.
1. Would you use different brands of MPPT SCC's on one bank.
2. How big of a problem is balance on 12v series lifepo4.
Thinking of trying a Vevor victron clone MPPT with my two Victrons. Also thinking of going 24v with my 12v bank. The bank is fairly new. Low use...
I agree 💯 on that. This is probably a ridiculous option and certainly not the most efficient but I thought about just building a 24v system and charge the 12v off of it with a 100a Powermax RV converter and just run my scc's and PV on the 24v then I can run all the PV I have on hand.
My main...
You know I hadn't thought of that! Question. Would I be able to use say two of those on the same bank or even one and also connect a victron to the same bank?
Greetings all. Hope the week was good so far. I have a small system and not sure if fusing is required or not so ask the pros.
I have a 900wh nightly consumption running on two lifepo4 12v 100 ah and a 2500 watt inverter with 30a victron and 4*100w pv in series on it.
The a/c load is 12.5 amps...
I'm mainly talking their monthly yield expected. Is that what to expect adjustable or fixed is my actual question. Maybe I didn't state the question correctly. If the chart is monthly best case scenario is that based on optimal angle is based in fixed. I would think fixed as many have roof...
I had two 100/50 and one 100/30 victron on my bank and the 30 always went to float first. It was the only one with different length cable. I moved it and shortened the cables to match the other two scc's and they all went to float much faster and within minutes of each other. I chalk it up to...
The numbers I put in were all over panel but not more than 120% and I was hoping you, Q-dog and Sunshine eggo would comment as well as the others that have. You guys have taught me much. My debt to y'all is great.
I'm doing just that through a transfer switch. My heating and cooling is 120v and the house is under 600 SQ ft open floor plan. I simply power the house on solar 120v as well as grid 120v through the transfer switch if need be. My heating are oil heater's and air is a window unit. I ran grid...
My inverter is always selected 2.5 to 3 times the actual running watts. I have a 5,000 watt inverter that runs a 1,800 watt load max. The fan never comes on. It has a very easy job and is happy that way. Max inverter efficiency is only reached it if doesn't have to work it's butt off. Always...
All my 12v are a year old or less and there isn't much of a market for lifepo4 around here. My concern is a bunch of balancing problems I see so many have with series batteries. I was just curious if with a balancer I can still expect that to be an ongoing issue no matter how frequent or...
He's told me plenty I was wrong about so don't feel bad. I'm hoping their expected output on the month by month is fixed array. It would sure simplify things for me. Thank you for weighing in!
They support it but I have my doubts with series being trouble free even with a balancer. Also they only support 2s or 4p or 4s. I have 10 100ah 12v.
Wanting to add PV to existing chargers but I may be better off just adding a couple SCC for the cost and trouble to go 24v with a 12v bank.
But...
Math is not hard at all (at least for a contractor as I use it daily) and I did the math per panel specs so no need to talk down to me about that.
As far as SQ inches and output goes I am sure you know more than most.
Now for your condescending remark if I knew all that information I would...
Thanks and yes it's voc is within the 100v limit and amps under way under 30a. Yes it's fire prevention but I read small systems didn't require fusing 400 watts or less I think it was. The power runs through an a/c breaker so the a/c side is protected. So basically fusing between the scc and the...
Thank you for that. Yes I plan to fuse each battery I believe in probably fusing what does not require it but my view is better to spend a few dollars than to be sorry. I'm not fond of fire unless it's in a barrel and I have a nice scotch on the rocks in my hand. I plan to bus the two banks on a...
In 8s2p your voc should be around 164v and amps around 15.075 or less.
8 * 20.5 voc = 164 voc
2 * 6.03 isc * 1.25 = 15.075 isc
The mppt takes that 164 volts and reduces it to charge voltage which is 14.6 to 14.7 volts. As this happens the voltage is decreased meaning the amps increase coming...
This is the information the SCC calculator provides so it raised my curiosity. Does this represent fixed or adjustable? It would be nice to know. Guess I will just have to try it both ways and see.
Thanks Tim I thought so. To do so both banks should be equal correct? 4p then connect both? Or would one be able to do 4p and say 2p or 3p and connect to the same bus? I would think they would need to be equal banks. Thanks for the input 👍
Wire panels in series to a step down / buck converter at the desired power. Wire the positive to a button thermostat of desired temp. Dornord has thermostats as well as dc elements. Then positive to the element as well as negative. It works great 👍
Greetings all. I have 9 lifepo4 100 ah batteries and am looking for someone with more experience than I to take a look. My max load would be 177a though I doubt it ever sees more than 150 on a typical day. 177a would be only 5 or so mins if ever.
What interconnect cable, string cable to bus as...
Not a single fuse other than what's in the inverter itself at the moment. I've been testing the system out on two freezers. Currently they use 2,500kwh per day including inverter standby but it's July hot in south Georgia and they are in a shed. They run much less in winter of course. 2x 50a...
Hello to all and thanks in advance for guidance. I have a new 12v system with 4x 100ah lifepo4. The batteries are prismatic cell. 4p of course and my question is (I think I already know but...) I have 2 x 100ah of a different brand (who cares about the marketing scam you can't mix brands?) that...
I have four 12v 100 ah that support series/parallel and 2 that support series or parallel but not both. I plan to series/parallel the 4 and series the other 2 and connect both strings to my bus bar. Is that acceptable in terms of the string that doesn't support both? Thanks in advance!
Yes I run 3 Victrons at the moment but none are over paneled. I'm thinking of throwing 800 at one of my 50's though or maybe 600 to my 30 and see what I get. Hopefully not a fried SCC lol I run a Vevor brand 5,000 watt inverter. So far it does very well. Why the dislike of their lable as...
T
Thank you sir! Have a transfer switch that is grid tided but I also like the idea that if my bank needs to get by a day or two with a little help at night with this to get to sunny again just use this instead. Also it seemed like a cheap way to supplement charge if needed while running a...
Thanks! I edited my post they are currently 2s not 2p guess my thumb had a mind of it's own. I have hooked up 3s but the controller got very warm to me. I didn't check the temp but have no idea just how warm they should get normally and do so safely. So I got another 50 scc and another panel and...
Quick question for those that would know for sure. I don't like to assume anything.
Is the victron SCC calculator results bases on adjustable PV array or fixed? Thanks in advance and wishing all a blessed and happy Thanksgiving with lots of sunshine!
Edit to say it shows an expectation of...
I never saw anything over 56 volts with my meter and like I said it was at least 90° in the shade. I've had 3s wired to it in the winter and it didn't fry it. It didn't blow the onboard 20a fuse so I figured it was voltage. I guess it spiked after I tested the string voltage and hooked up the...
It's not pv wire but inverter and interconnect cables I am inquiring about. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I should have disclosed that. Thanks for insights from there.
I'm well versed on charts. I was asking your opinion. Yeah at 53 years old before google we made friends when it was born. Thanks anyway. Have a great day.
Depending on location it runs anywhere from 20btu to 40btu per SQ ft. Also depends on heating and cooling. They ain't the same cat nor color regions depending as well.
I plan to open one up this morning. They are supposed to be serviceable. Hysincere and Sjy are the brands. I see so many have balance issues over time even with balancers so I'm leary of doing that though it's the easiest way. If I did it would be 2s5p for sure. I don't know but I would think...
When taking equal length pos and negative into consideration do you allow for distance pole to pole for Fuse, switches and or breakers? Is that gap considered distance or no matter what the wire itself is equal no matter what's pope to pole? Would either be an imbalance? Thanks in advance.
