This has been a huge project for me and my family. This forum helped a lot. All the work was done by me and a few friends (one a master electrician).

I am in Texas so AC is a must here. According to my Emporia Vue AC accounts for over 30% of my power in the summer. I have two units (4 and 2 ton). They are 16 seer. In the past we kept the house around 76-77f but now we are doing 74 since the batteries are charged by 3pm.
I got this working by utilizing solar assistant and home assistant. Took me a bit to code it right but my automation seems to be working well. I have it check the SOC of the battery and also that the EVSE is plugged in. If the two meet my threshold it begins charging at 6amps. From there it...
Yeah they are being pretty shady about it. They obviously have stock because they are still for sale on Ebay and Amazon. I ended up getting the 100ah (has BT and comes with a shunt) from there site for $640 but it did not charge taxes and shipping was free so it was the cheapest option. Still...
Got everything setup with the 100ah finally. So far it’s charged up perfectly fine and running well. Packaging was done well and I confirmed it’s 16 cells. Very happy with my purchase
Hah yes do have an electric fence and yes your argument makes sense
Sunshine it just passes it through so thanks for that clarity on the disconnect not dropping the voltage.
Yes I will get voltage drop from the long run. This is why I am running 10g copper. From what I have seen on the...
That's ridiculous. I just ordered one of the monitormy solar dongles. Hopefully this can get figured out. I may take a look myself if I get any time to see if I can figure out the secret sauce.
Already at 559kWh and haven't touched the grid since September 29th! So far it has worked flawlessly. I may grab a Raspberry Pi and setup Solar Assistant. I like the eg4 monitoring app, but not a fan of my data going out to hosted servers and also relying on them for stability (already annoyed...
Not sure if you guys are aware but the extra battery info only will show up in a browser connected to the eg4 portal. If you are trying to see the info on the apple phone app it won't show.
Also I originally did not have this data showing for me. I changed from 0 to 1 on battery type and it...
Well that helps a lot. I do plan to use at least 40% a day at a minimum. Right now is the low end use because the weather is very mild. Once it gets cold the heat pump will start using a lot more (same in the summer with ac)
I believe I have all my settings good for now and understand them. I was running Solar Assistant just connected to my inverter (EG4 3000) and set the battery type to EG4 Battery Protocol. Everything looked good and was reporting but it was not reporting the temp of my battery. So I figured maybe...
Here is a modified version that should be fairly easy to understand. Yes I know the conditions and states are weird but honestly I tried so many iterations to get this going and this is the only way I could get it working consistently. It starts charging 6 amps at 100% SOC (easy to change) and...
Ok I see.
I only have one battery.....but I use Solar assistant. Guess I need to find a cheap MPPT that is compatible with Solar-assistant. Any ideas? I am thinking under $150
The panels are 31.01 Vmp each and 13.79A lsc
I do have one more question sunshine_ego. If I put the disconnect at the house do I need to run a 250ft long ground wire from the array to the disconnect then tie that into my house ground? Or can I just put two ground rods by the array and ground it...
Did any of you ever get solar assistant to work with the Ethernet dongle? I hate the wifi dongle and want to replace it with ethernet but I rely on Solar Assistant as well for automations
I recently bought my first ev and purchased an emporia ev charger. I also have a eg4 18kpv with 4 eg4 indoor batteries. I do not export to the grid. I do pull from the grid when batteries are below 15%.
I see that emporia offers the vue which can monitor energy usage and I also see you can set...
Getting ready to connect the EG4 Indoor Batteries to my 18kpv. The power cables that came with the battery are fine strands and I see nothing in the manual (18kpv or battery manual) about the need for ferrules when connecting to the inverter. Did you guys use ferrules or just connect them...
Hey everyone,
Specs:
Eg4 3000EHV
EG4 Lifepower4 battery
Solar not connected yet
AC In connected
Finally got around to mounting, and wiring my shed this week. LifePower4 battery is hooked up to Eg4 3000EHV. AC in is hooked up and I have AC out going to a a Power Panel. Everything seems to be...
I currently have 4 305watt panels wired in series facing south (I plan to modify it a bit to face true south). They are doing a great job until around 5pm or so. That got me thinking, I can add 2-4 more panels on the roof of my shed. I can put 2 on each side which would cover east and west...
That’s a shame. I think I may go another route by using home assistant. As long as I can control the charging rate I maybe able to put something together.
Looks like the bms tool sets up a local sqlite db when you run it. Worse case scenario you could prob run the tool, set it to monitor and then remotely connect to the DB and grab your data. Seems very janky but could work.
Right now in the summer the batteries are usually charged by 2pm. Depending on usage the batteries some nights drain completely but most nights we have around 10-20% left by the time they start charging again. In the fall right now my batteries are charged by 1pm on most days and battery is...
that sux.
They must be query at a interval thats different then anything else. I noticed that the battery info on the eg4 portal doesn't always match up....like its minutes behind everything else.
Hey everyone. I currently have around 2 strings going to my 18kpv and they are doing great. These 2 strings are both pointing South. I am starting to plan a third string that will go on a pergola in my back yard. I am currently considering pointing the panels to the west to help extend the time...
I have purchased almost all my equipment but have a few questions. FYI This system will eventually sell back to the grid
*Note: I am not doing the install. I have a master electrician friend that will be doing the majority of the work.
Question 1: Does the attatched diagram look correct...
Signature solar has all batteries 10% off today until midnight. I went ahead and bought my 4th EG4 Indoor battery. Luckily I am local so I don't have to pay for shipping
Ok I know this sounds like a big time newb question but I am trying to be safe.
I have 12 400w panels that I plan to wire up today. Everything is mounted I just need to get them connected up to my imo dc disconnect. Once I do this is it safe to flip the dc disconnect to on while the sun is up?
Lots of good info.
Yes it’s a 48v system. And yes I am in the Dallas/Fort Woth area.
I do have a small load on it now and a mini split that is currently set very high so it has only ran a little.
This weekend I am going to start on the permanent install of the solar panels and get them at...
Mine came today. Although I got them at the $300 price which I am still happy about. They only had one avaliable at the time.
I also bought a DC House Power 48v 100Ah that I am waiting for.
I am looking into buying a solark 15k or a eg4 18k. Any recommendations on a vendor for the sol ark 15k with good pricing? I would prefer the sol ark over the eg4 but the pricing really has me leaning towards the eg4.
Hey everyone. I have a small shed I am building out. I have decided on a eg4 6000 for the inverter, eg4 48v 100ah battery and around 1600 watts of solar to start. I will eventually expand batteries and solar.
I went to Home Depot today and bought 12/2 wiring, wall boxes, and receptacles. Where...
My battery is 5KW hours. Right now with my load its going a bit to low for my liking once the sun is down. Right now I need to get a better baseline since I have only been running this for a few days now.
I like this idea. Would you mind pointing me to the direction of where a switch like this can be purchased. I am assuming the PV inputs will need to be connected to a bus bar and then feed into the controller?
Hopefully my last “newb” question.
Eg4 3000 inverter
Lifepower4 battery
I have SA hooked up to the battery and inverter. I have the eg4 3000 set to USE as the battery type. All of this is working in SA. I have no utility hooked up. I do have the option but only want to use it as a last...
I have midnite solar spd's for all 3 strings for my 18kpv. I bought a 4th for AC and I am little confused where it should go. Should it be installed at my 200amp Fused service disconnect, fused disconnect that leads to the 18kpv, or at the main home panel?
You can do much better with EG4 or SolArk Hyrbrid Inverter. They also want way to much for the battery and Solar Panel option. $9549 for 14.4Kwh and 4.8KW Solar panels! Ouch. I purchased a EG4 Indoor battery 14.3Kwh for $3,000 and 5.25KW of panels for $1190 (total of $4190)
Unfortunately that's not in the budget. I am really just wondering if doing the above will have a benefit or not....unless I am confusing mppt controller with something else.
Been going back and forth on this. I found a video online where someone wired there 18kpv like this. He is grid tied and sells back to the electric company. This passed inspection. This setup seems to be just like the diagram in the 18k manual for "Whole Home backup with Supply side tap"...
Can we hook four of the EG4 indoor batteries up to a 18kpv without a external busbar? I currently have 3 indoor batteries and plan to get another one next year.
More newbie questions.
I will have 24 panels split up into 2 strings in series. My panels will be ground mounted about 250 ft from the house (using 10 guage PV wire). I purchased a DiHool PV Disconnect Switch that contains Solar 40A circuit breakers. My choices of where to install this box...
Wow .30 seems insane to me. I pay .11/kWh and feel it’s too much. Our highest bill is $300 a month with zero solar and two air conditioners (4 ton and 2 ton) here in north Texas. But we keep it 78 degrees in the summer months. 3000 sq home
Our neighbor whose house is similar size and has two ac...
this is the best deal so far for the 48v 50ah and 100ah I have seen. If you buy from DC house they don't charge tax. I just picked up 2 50ah 48v batteries for $599 with free shipping. The last two I got were the same price with free shipping but I had to pay taxes on them.
