  • Post in thread: 'Off-Grid' meets 'Grid' - Sort Of - SkyBox Installed ? ** victron ESS Dilemma**

Yep.... It's all good. I sold two of my firstborn children to pay for it !!.... Now I have two empty bedrooms for workshops and storage ;)
  • Post in thread: 'Off-Grid' meets 'Grid' - Sort Of - SkyBox Installed ? ** victron ESS Dilemma**

You’re correct…. I just nailed it with a change in grid code. It’s doing exactly what it is supposed to now with respect to it’s parameters within the ESS environment. Finally ! From here it’s just testing and tweaking to get all the variables playing nicely together to get me through the night...
  • Post in thread: 'Off-Grid' meets 'Grid' - Sort Of - SkyBox Installed ? ** victron ESS Dilemma**

Yes, sorry for any confusion, the Meter is installed right at the end of the supply, between the Main Switchboard and the Grid Supply Smart Meter. So it is literally at the gateway to the grid.
  • Post in thread: 'Off-Grid' meets 'Grid' - Sort Of - SkyBox Installed ? ** victron ESS Dilemma**

Hi All..... Finally had my new SkyBox (Not Outback Skybox) installed on the rear studio at the rear of my home. My aim is to eventually go "off-grid" and this is my first step in getting my head around a new area of electronics and exploring how it all plays together. (See Photo's) The Setup >>...
  • Post in thread: New OffGrid Victron - Possible Ground Loop ?

Testing has shown my Generator is in fact NOT Earth/Neutral tied as suspected… Still no advice re above sub board bonding and safe way to use shore power for charging ???
  • Post in thread: Generator displaying weird power fault ?

Yes at this point it shows 244v 50Hz inside the home using just a retail plug-in type wattmeter …. But I’m yet to check the actual output of the generator. The supplier has stated it maybe a faulty AVR (auto voltage regulator) and wants me to do some further testing. I’ll keep the thread...
  • Post in thread: 'Off-Grid' meets 'Grid' - Sort Of - SkyBox Installed ? ** victron ESS Dilemma**

Thanks ?? I’ve got my eyes on a pair of the new Jakiper 230Ah rack mounted 48v LiFePo4 units…. They reviewed really well by ‘Andy’s off grid Garage’ here in Oz That should provide me with a few days of zero sunshine up here in the mountain fog ? I have mostly hijacked someone else’s post in...
  • Post in thread: BSL - LiFePo4 48v Battery BMS Type ?

Hi all ? Have just purchased a "Skybox" Off-Grid setup installed on a shed on my property here in Victoria Australia, and it contains 2x BSL 48v LiFePo4 100Ah batterys (amongst other Victron componants) and I'm attempting to properly configure the charge voltages etc. I'm hoping someone knows...
  • Post in thread: Growatt SPF 5000 ES bypass at night.

Might be a silly question, but did you re-boot the inverter after each change of mode ? How is it working now ?
  • Post in thread: The all allusive 100% SoC - Is it fiction ?

Then .... the voltage peaks at my desired value (56.8v on this occasion) with all 32x cells eventually within 30mv of each other ? Then .... after about 15 minutes the pack voltage starts to drop for no reason I can figure out. And it slowly settles down to a much lesser voltage and keeps...

  • Post in thread: 'Off-Grid' meets 'Grid' - Sort Of - SkyBox Installed ? ** victron ESS Dilemma**

Thanks for your input 3418 :giggle: There is much to learn about the ESS environment. It does draw from the grid effectively, and finds an almost zero balance between import/export when supplying the Multiplus loads and charging.....It's just the other way around it appears stuck. I have the...
  • Post in thread: Grid Tie Victron ESS with DIY LiFePO4 Battery in Australia - Regulatory Issues?

Any update ? How did you go ?
  • Post in thread: The all allusive 100% SoC - Is it fiction ?

Thanks mate. With the help of this amazing crew …. I’m sure I’ll solve this one as I did the Grid Code issue supplying the house loads. Thanks again to you and others ???
  • Post in thread: The all allusive 100% SoC - Is it fiction ?

Yes, it appears from all angles that that would start the process of top balancing and see what it does from there..... So what's the best way to do this ? I realize not everyone has Victron, so I'm restricted to the paramteres of the mighty blue. Do I just increase the "Max Charge Voltage"...
  • Post in thread: The all allusive 100% SoC - Is it fiction ?

Yes, It's not that I want it to sit at unhealthy voltages all day. My end game is to cycle the battery's down to a safe SoC overnight and simply charge them and use them to assist high loads throughout the day only. But I'm simply testing the new setup at this point, and wanting to top balance...
  • Post in thread: BSL - LiFePo4 48v Battery BMS Type ?

Thanks Eggo..... Yes, it's linked via Can bus cable to the Cerbo GX, however there appears to be several very different battery voltages being reported depending where you look ? Also the battery has not yet ever entered 'float' stage in a few weeks, which concerns me as I tested the setup with...
  • Post in thread: Grid Tie Victron ESS with DIY LiFePO4 Battery in Australia - Regulatory Issues?

Great setup…. With that setup in the diagram. What occurs when there is a grid fail ? Does the fronius continue to invert etc ? Do your loads continue to be powered ? How will the battery’s change this in a grid fail (i.e. will fronius still charge them and share loads) and did you need to use...
  • Post in thread: Generator displaying weird power fault ?

Hy Crew..... Have hasd a deisel 6.5kVa back-up generator installed at my home for some time. It is installed with an ATS on the main board and I've never had an issue with it starting or running all my house loads that are on it's essential load bus. I tested it about a Month ago, and found...
  • Post in thread: The all allusive 100% SoC - Is it fiction ?

Hi Solar experts..... I need some fresh perspective on why a battery refuses to show 100% SoC even under the most favourable conditions. First a little about the setup in question..... Two(2) parallel LiFePo4 48v 5.12kWh 100Ah BSL racks (via CAN-Bus) fed by Victron MPPT 450/100 TR (via...
  • Post in thread: BSL - LiFePo4 48v Battery BMS Type ?

Thanx Eggo... Looks like I've got some more digging to do with BSL perhaps :giggle: @BSL Batttery SOLAR NA
  • Post in thread: 'Off-Grid' meets 'Grid' - Sort Of - SkyBox Installed ? ** victron ESS Dilemma**

Yes, the Grid Code was pre-installed in the ESS by the Installer… Info regarding the Grid Codes is hard to find, and appears to be held in trust by some secret society of engineers .! Haha
  • Post in thread: The all allusive 100% SoC - Is it fiction ?

Well said.... Yes this is so very true and often misinterpreted. However I'm pretty sure my setup doesn't have, and isn't supposed to have, any bulk/abs/float cycles at all due to it's ESS environment. So, I would normally sit the charge voltage at 55.2v and just cycle them down to a safe SoC...
  • Post in thread: The all allusive 100% SoC - Is it fiction ?

Still no 100% SoC.... However battery is now top balanced and doing what a nice LiFePo4 should do. After top balancing the pack for over 10 hours the DVCC & BMS Max Charge Voltage was returned down from 56.8v to 55.2v Cell Delta went from >150mv to 10mv (over 32x cells) so I'm guessing...
  • Post in thread: The all allusive 100% SoC - Is it fiction ?

That looks like an amazing diagnostic tool..... I'll set one up tonight at work if all goes well. Did you have any trouble setting the Y axis ranges ? This info should contrast some of the disparity's nicely and give an indication of where to have a closer look. On first blush.... What to you...
  • Post in thread: The all allusive 100% SoC - Is it fiction ?

Thanks for the info…. Do u know what type of BMS it is ? And where I can get some more detailed specs ? What could be causing the gradual decline in voltage ? Even when in ‘Keep battery charged’ mode ? Any thoughts ?

  • Post in thread: 'Off-Grid' meets 'Grid' - Sort Of - SkyBox Installed ? ** victron ESS Dilemma**

Thanks, yes I’ve been reading till my eyes bleed ? There isn’t a lot of easily obtainable info on the individual attributes of individual codes. Even though I have the password, installers are very reluctant to experiment or test code variants, and even less so with end-users, despite a solid...
  • Post in thread: The all allusive 100% SoC - Is it fiction ?

Thanks n2aws . . Good to know ?? I was wondering if the voltage imbalance between packs may be contributing to my weird range of voltage reference points … or confusing the Cerbo ? But if it’s not a factor…. I’ll keep looking ??
  • Post in thread: The all allusive 100% SoC - Is it fiction ?

Yes, I understand the cause of some of the variance, such as cable losses and anomaly’s of certain reporting thresholds etc…. But when my measured pack terminal voltage is more than 3 Volts higher than the BMS recorded pack voltage, I don’t understand…. Or why the preset max charge voltage...
  • Post in thread: Yet another grounding VS earthing thread, double checking my plan...

Don't be afraid to use your multi-meter when testing ground/earth to nuetral etc etc..... The last thing you need or want is something that is ground/nuetral tied going faulty and throwing 120v AC into your entire caravan chassis and every appliance in it :devilish: That looks like quite the...
  • Post in thread: The all allusive 100% SoC - Is it fiction ?

Thanks EggDude.... Yes I've kept an eye on the cell voltages, and they all appear within 30mv of each other when balanced or even as little as 10mv or less when being discharged..... The most they ever appear apart is about 100mv during the rapid charging first thing in the morning. Do you think...

  • Post in thread: Grid Tie Victron ESS with DIY LiFePO4 Battery in Australia - Regulatory Issues?

Am I correct in assuming that Victron now had CEC approval in Australia for the MP II grid code A/477.2:2020 with new Appendix M approval ??? I assume this due to the details within the changelog of the MP Firmware 510 that states >>> **Enabled the appendix M. gridcodes of AS/NZS4777 for...
  • Post in thread: The all allusive 100% SoC - Is it fiction ?

Ok great, this could be a nice start point to experiment for a solution.... So just to be 100% on the same page, I'd be adjusting this "Max Charge Voltage" within the BMS parameters right ? And then making sure the DVCC "CVL" is de-activated or above this new BMS value ? I'm also assuming...
  • Post in thread: Inverter Ground/Neutral Bonding

@TexanSun Thanks for clearing this up..... Could you please cast your eye over my recent post re: "grounding loop" and let me know what you think. I'd really appreciate your input :)

  • Post in thread: 'Off-Grid' meets 'Grid' - Sort Of - SkyBox Installed ? ** victron ESS Dilemma**

Hahaha Yes, it's an uncomfortable pillow, but I feel like I've read it back to front now ! It is slighlty ambiguous and not greatly worded.... so has added to my confusion a little. I can't seem to get this setup to contribute to the house loads even when using "DC Coupled Grid Feed-In" option...
  • Post in thread: BSLBATT battery questions and answers

What is the BMS unit that you use in your 48V LiFePo4 100Ah battery's and what type of balancing does it use ?
  • Post in thread: 'Off-Grid' meets 'Grid' - Sort Of - SkyBox Installed ? ** victron ESS Dilemma**

Yes, I have the Victron ET-112 installed at the Grid entry point that is wired directly to the Multiplus.

This is what I'm seeing here.... Would this be normal @sunshine_eggo ?
  • Post in thread: The all allusive 100% SoC - Is it fiction ?

Yes, I have 16x cells per pack. I'll play with the Master BMS value and see how that influences things. I've heard 3.55v to be a pretty good voltage for top balancing (temporarily of course for the sake of top balancing). Andy from Off Grid Garage has done a very good video on this and a lower...
  • Post in thread: BSL - LiFePo4 48v Battery BMS Type ?

Thanks Eggo for your informative reply.... It's so hard to find accurate info around the forums that isn't contradicting itself. For a beginner, this can make a very confusing hobby even more confusing. I'll keep an eye on the voltage and cell balancing delta, and hopefully this 55.2v will be...
