Last night about 10:22 someone took out a power pole alongside the highway and everyone around me was without power for some time. The only reason I know this is because my data log showed that AC in was off starting at that time. I was oblivious to it. So while my payback maybe 5 to 6 years...
Got my last electric bill.....it was $35. $23 was for having the meter......$13 of actual use. This is from when I can't make it overnight on battery and grid kicks in for a boost. At $13 per month, it would take a long, long time to justify an additional battery. I believe I will let Mr...
Time of day usage. If all the clothes washing, drying, cooking, vacuum cleaning, water heating etc is done during good sun, much less battery is needed. If you come home from work and start doing all these things, big battery needed.
We have hail like this every few years here in this part of the country.....we had one so bad thirty years ago that it wiped out the quail populatoin for years. Baseball size hail happens every year in the Texas panhandle, it happened a few days ago in Lubbock and took out many, many car...
I just wanted to thank every one who helped me figure this thing out. I ran the whole house yesterday on two EG4 6000's and only 18 of my 24 panels connected. Only two 5k Lifepower batteries for now. Did not know if it would make it through the night but it did. Can't wait to get the other 8...
It's funny because that damn dog, who has probably chewed up thousands of things, finally got a little karma. The look on his face as he watches the fire is priceless.
Found the catalog where I purchased my Y2K system. Unisolar 12 volt panels....$369 for 64 watts (equal to $10.78 per watt in todays money) Trace DR 12 volt inverter $1283 then ( $2400 todays dollar) All is still working, it is the back up to my back up. Thank God what you get for your...
IF you don't want to talk about thirty years ago.....lets talk about hundreds of years ago when the global cooling in the year with no summer showed us what will happen if the temps cool off just a little.....I grow crops and crops love heat...cold kills them and us. Follow the money and see...
If anyone else is having firmware update problems...Ryan at SS had me go to the settings menu on my PC....did this with the serial port cable plugged into the computer...It immediately recognized that I needed the Silicone labs cable driver update....it installed instantly and my update could...
Ive got three 6000Xp, (9Kw panels, six life power batteries......did all the work myself and I figure with the 30% tax credit that I have a 5 -6 year pay back. After that, my electricity is free, unless a battery or inverter goes bad. Run my entire house with no worries about the grid going...
My old whole house heat pump never put out heat you could feel.....it would heat the house, but it always felt like cold air was blowing from the vents. These mini splits feel like they are blowing air from the depths of Hell......I like it. They must also have a direct worm hole from the...
When I see these post about how the wife gave her approval to go ahead and build the solar system......I thank God I took my grandfathers advice about marriage. He said marry a young one and raise them the way you want them. That way you don't need to ask permission to build a solar system...
Put the second mini split up today and it seemed harder than the first. But one thing I wish I would have done is mount the plate to a piece of plywood and then mount the plywood to the wall. It seems like none of these plates are drilled for 16" OC stud spacing. There is plenty of room...
Well now I have to rethink everything....ran the 24K Mini split all day off my existing system through the inverters and batteries. Made about 45 KW today. So I would not have needed to run straight off panels. Panels are not going to do me any good at night, might just need to get another...
I have always had to watch my budget and usually keep it around 76 to be able to afford to pay the electric bill......not anymore!. I get that puppy down as cold as my wife will let me so that by the evening when sun is gone I can turn it off and let it slowly warm up, all for free!
I've lived here for 62 years and almost every time it rains, it also hails. I'm a cotton farmer and I know what I'm talking about. If you believer in global warming, I've got news for you. We can live with the fake global warming, but if we cool by just a few degrees, almost all crops...
Did my test last night. Turned off the breakers to both water heaters at 7pm. This morning the water was still hot enough to brush my teeth and batteries still at 52 volts. I think timers and water heater blankets are going to save me $3000 in batteries. Shouldn't even need small point of...
On my second Senville mini split, I did the vacuum, gauge did not move. Then released a little of the freon. Shut off valve and did bubble test. No leak. Let the rest of the freon out and this time I did not call my AC man. Saved$125. Some people go into overkill on the testing...
I can only tell you how great my 24k EG4 is.....my whole house 5 ton heat pump cratered....that was the best thing that ever could happen to me....It forced my to look at the EG4.....I am running it off my main solar system....three EG4 6000's and 24 panels. I never use all the power I am...
Not trying to be smug, but.....my brother called me and asked if the electricity blinked, because if it did he would need to re-start all his irrigation wells. I told him that I did not know because mine never blinks now a days.
When I talked to my local co op, they tried to discourage me, said it was not worth it, then changed course when they saw I was determined and said to sell back to them.....they charge 12.5 cents and want to pay me 4 cents......hello batteries, here I come.....still use them as the back up battery.
Just received email from SS about my EG4 6000 inverter firmware update.....I don't know if anything changed or I just missed the second part of the update. I downloaded the firmware again and now I have two updates to run, the InfiniVMaster CPU reflash which I had previously and now I have...
Deciding to upgrade my Y2K system by getting a lithium battery started me onto this expensive journey.....Now the Trace system is my back up to my back up......
Got the third EG4 6000 inverter and two more lifepower batteries hooked up last night....first day of sunshine, cloudy morning, all 24 panels going...... 36.6 KW .....maybe all the effort is going to be worthwhile.....Maybe.....
Found a connection that was almost melted ........ also his panels had no indication of positive or negative that I could see.....he said the connectors, male and female were the only indication..... at least I found his bad connection. His son is going to try and re-do the connection tomorrow.
I built a small room in my garage, about 6' x 12'......and when I saw how hot the units were running, I put in a small ac unit.....them keeps them close to 100 degrees max, even when outside temps are 105. I don't know if this is over kill or not, but I have the excess power during the day to...
I have one 24K unit that cools my kitchen/dinning room and blows into the living room. This unit currently runs off my inverters and main panels. I have another 24K unit that is running only on it's own 7 used panels. It comes on around 8:30 to 9:00 and runs till low sun. This is in a...
I'm running the EG4 24K unit off my panels and inverters for now until I have the time to set up dedicated panels for the mini split. It is performing way beyond my expectations. I keep the house at deep freeze temps during the day when the sun is out and still don't use all my available...
Believe me the video is not sensationalized, in fact, it does not do the actual event justice. The dust sometimes reaches up to 10,000 feet when it rolls in. When watching the video, remember, while you are there, you have difficulty breathing from the dust. You will blow copious amounts of...
My 24k has been keeping the majority of my house, living room, kitchen, dinning room hallways, down to 67 or so during the day with temps of 90 to 95. I am running it as cold as I can during the day so it does not have to run at night. Bedroom units will be added soon. I am still not making...
My reason for using one is so I can slap some used panels on it and let it do it's own thing. That way it is not taking any power from the rest of my system. If I enlarge the main system later on, I can wire it into the mini split and use the main system as the helper to the stand alone. I...
My neighbor is licensed. He will check out my work and sign off.....he has done so for the last three heat pump systems I installed. Mine 9 years ago, my sons and my mothers. SInce my 5 ton went out I decided to go with something with not such large start up amps and way more efficient.
Why would you want the AC only version? If you get the straight from solar you can use grid AC or your grid tied system or slap some used panels up for assisting on the cheap.
Oh it's a whole house system, but the dedicated panels let me turn on everything at once......without being a "watt" counter.....I may turn of the AC and open all my windows just to produce as much power as I can waste.
I want to tell you to give Ryan a raise.....seriously, I appreciate all his help. Now days no one wants to work and when someone shows up to work and provides me a service or product that I can actually afford, I really appreciate it. My system is providing nearly all my electric needs and my...
HDD is hard drive of the computer it is hooked up to? My computer is put together by Spock with stone knives and bear skins circa 1930's Mansplain it for me.
I can run every electric device in my house, stove, dryer, dishwasher, water well, at the same time while I am making 9 KW and the lights still flicker like hell (incandescent, not LED) this includes the refrigerator light. Load does not seem to matter. When I first wired up my test electric...
Thank God China bought off the blithering old fool......I may need some more panels soon.
https://creativedestructionmedia.com/news/business/2023/05/17/bill-to-protect-u-s-solar-panel-makers-from-chinese-competition-vetoed-by-biden/
For al having the same firmware update problems.....Ryan at SS advised me to go to Microsoft updates in settings....did this with the cable provided by SS...immediately it recogonized that I needed the Silicone labs cable driver..it installed and I am now in the process of updating my...
I am hoping that the pre order of the 24K mini splits is going to ship soon so that I can try the two I bought in my barn before I run out of hot weather.
14 panels completed on barn roof today.....hurry little mini split, hurry up!
I would never have attempted to build my system without the price level SS has for their components. I can't afford a Cadillac system where the inverter costs three times as much as the EG4 6000 and then you still need a controller. I fully expect my panels to last 25 to 30 years, hopefully...
Obviously you do not need motivation, nor do I, the damsel in distress did. It would be the first step in solving her problem. I did include a link to Will's videos so she could at least start the process of educating herself. If everyone solves this problem for her without a change in her...
Now that my firmware is updated....apparently I produced the highest Kw for my system to date. With 16 of my 24 panels, I made 24 KW today.....can't wait to get the other inverter and batteries here to get me to my design goal of around 35 KW per day. Independence is a nice feeling....
Mini splits, mini splits, mini splits....,multi head mini splits......quantity of panels to run mini splits....I want to get my house down to 40 degrees during the day and let it warm up from there when I come home in the dark.
I believe that is the way he had it..... it was awful hard to follow his wiring with the way it was all zip tied together...did find a bad melted connector.
I ran mine on solar only for more than a week no problems. Then we had some cloudy days and it the next morning it would not come on. It was making a buzzing or alarm sound from the outdoor unit. I turned off the solar and turned on the grid power....it powered up and ran fine. Turned solar...
I have nothing but incandescent and they flicker like hell.....while my PV input is strongest. At the end of the day while the PV input is lower and while on battery only or battery and AC input pass through, absolutely no flicker. It's a good thing I don't use my lights during the day or it...
Many times my three inverters are running at 80% or better.....if something else kicks in, it would be overloaded. Two water heaters, well pump, electric oven, dish washer, close washer, dryer......I try to run all these appliances during the day when full solar is out.....if you don't pull it...
I just turned off my AC in to the inverters....just on solar and battery....no flicker. I have not done the firmware update yet. Maybe this will help. I am waiting on my third inverter to ship. Could not make it with just two. Too many variables to balance with cook stove, water well, water...
Just saw this thread.....My three 6000 xp's switch to grid and show EPS overload when I suspect my standard water heater kick on. I have plenty of battery, plenty of solar and still for a few minutes it will switch to grid. I am going to try raising the maximum discharge current and see if...
James, I am to technically inept to "tag" someone so I am going to post my thoughts to you here. My EG4 24K mini split has performed beyond my wildest expectations. I am running it off my main system and haven't even hooked it up to it's own dedicated panels yet. So far, I have plenty of...
Check all your settings.....mine have changed themselves without explanation. Reset itself to 110 volt instead of 120 and host and slave switch places all the time. Several other setting seem to change also. Good luck.
Still running my three 6000 ex's....shut downs around three weeks or a month....Like you, I don't like my appliances being subjected to this, but am not going to go to the 18K, not enough power for my whole house.....will probably struggle along and if they last a few more years, upgrade to the...
I have three EG4 600's and they were working fine except for the horrible flicker during solar production.....that is until they decided to start shutting down and restarting for no reason. Happened twice now and problem is all the settings are going crazy. It resets to 110 volt, 50HZ and...
Ryan at SS had me download a program to pull these logs and send them to him. I could not get it to show any such logs.....playing email tag now to see what is next. Latest firmware installed.
When I did my usage study.....pulled old bills, averaged, did the watt meter thing.....did not really think about all the late in the evening use of dryer, stove, water heaters, etc. Time of use is a critical decesion.
Take your destiny in you own hands and watch some of Will Prowse's videos on a simple system like you have. IF you take the time to educate yourself you will not be dependent on the kindness of strangers or the knowledge of local so called experts. Look through all his early videos and begin...
Got my EG4 24K mini split up and running this morning. So far I only have it running of grid AC. In the next couple of days I will wire the other side of the transfer switch to tie in to my inverters. When I find a good deal on some extra panels to run straight to it, I will have the perfect...
Another problem I see with the monitoring is that if the inverters are not plugged into the computer when it happens, it does not seem to pull up old data.....it only pulls up while you are plugged in. I used an old desktop and had this plugged into a battery back up APC unit so that when the...
I don't think I have ever hung anything of drywall anchors.....I tend to way over build anything I make......If I built an airplane, it would take a nuclear reactor to give it enough power to get it off the ground.
Put one 15 foot from back end of barn about 7 foot high.....want to be able to direct turbo air right on me if I am working on something....put the other about 15 foot inside from the door, same height. I believe the air stratifies and keeps more of the cold air where I want it, down low. This...
Had problems updating the EG4 6000's......Ryan with SS has always been a great help and hooked me up with Ty who was able to remotely do the update on inverter number one. I kindly thanked him and told him I would do the other two. He was leaving in about an hour so let him know how it went on...
Look at an F250 with the 7.3 or 6.8 V-8 gas engine. Old pushrod engine. You can reach all plugs, coil packs easily. Exhaust manifold is SS. This pickup will last me till I die.
My thinking was that during the day, use all the solar I can, this preheats the water but maybe not as hot as I would like to shower in. Then when there is no solar, use the grid AC for the brief 4 to 5 minute shower and not even use my batteries up. I can't justify $3000 for two more...
I would love to have double or triple the battery storage and maybe more panels.....but I don't like to piss away money that I might need for something else.....If the solar elite who peruse here wish to donate to the poor...send your excess batteries and panels tis way.....
My EG4 24K would run you out of a small bedroom....it is cooling my kitchen and living room and hall way......seperate 12K for our bedroom.....added another EG4 24K in another bedroom where our freeze drier is located....leave door open to hall and this keeps the whole house cool. The 12K unit...
Get rid of EG4 setting and go to USE.......that is the only way I have been able to keep my system running. It charges to float of 54, back to grid at 51, back to battery at 53. Seems to work great, except for the random shut downs about once a week or sometimes every two weeks. USE is the...
Sure propane is great, just ask Hank Hill, but I am so deep into this solar crap, I cannot stop. Besides, once the used panels and mini splits are paid for, the running of them is free. Also be nice to cool it off in the summer when it's 105 and were are working on a piece of equipment. Gonna...
I would very much like to hear some feedback on this also. I have scouted out a spot on my garage roof that is in shade until around 10:30 then full sun for the rest of the day......I can put enough panels there and only have a short run of cable to the mini split.
Do you ever see Grid Ac in being used even when plentiful Solar is available? Today I had 2.5 KW coming in to each inverter and battery was around 54 volts and inverters were still accepting voltage from grid Ac in. I turned of grid AC in and PV input jumped up on each inverter to 3.5 KW. I...
I have always wanted to build an ion powered star drive....maybe the next sandstorm will see me lift off the Mars with the ion drive just at idle......
