Complete rebuild of a house - how would you power and heat/cool ?

Why off grid? Storage is expensive. The biggest bang for your buck will be insulation, and an energy audit and blower door test will be critical to insulating it right and sizing the heating / cooling system. How much do you care about temperature control? Are + - 10 or more degree swings and...

    Do fuses work at all?

Personally, I like MRBF fuses. I've used them on marine systems and carried them over to my solar installation at my cabin. It really takes the crappy fuse holder problem out of the picture. Blue Sea makes good ones. https://www.bluesea.com/products/5191/MRBF_Terminal_Fuse_Block_-_30_to_300A

    Low wattage 40" TV?

We just bought a Samsung UN40N5200 40" smart tv for our off grid cabin. Just looked up the power specs. Typical Power Consumption: 30 Maximum Power Consumption: 90 Standby Power Consumption: 0.5 So I guess it depends. I don't have my kill-a-watt meter up here so can't actually measure it...

    Off-Grid Cabin - 120v AC and/or 12v DC buildout?

    Off-Grid Cabin - 120v AC and/or 12v DC buildout?

We have a 400 sq ft cabin off grid with a 960 watt system. I went with 120v for everything mainly due to the distance from the solar system to the cabin. Solar is installed on a shed roof in a field and cabin is in the woods, Cheaper and easier to run the 200' of cable for 120v ac than 24 v...
