Excellent info and advice everyone, I love it!! Those metal plates sound exactly like what I was thinking of doing with the breakers, just in a foolproof safe way so nothing can go wrong. Plus it's a really cheap upgrade ?
So to clarify (I apologize for the bad doodling), I would have the GTI...
Hey everyone!
I'm in the process of putting up a DIY 10kw solar array with an 8kw Sol-ark inverter and 20kwh of battery storage. The batteries are primarily for use of peak shaving, and our grid is reliable (99.95%). However, I would love to keep power going in the house during grid downtime...
Great thread so far! So what's the verdict on the deye 8kw inverters for US markets? Is it permitted without bricking the unit remotely or is it a no-go?
Also, has anyone tried the other private label rebranded versions of the deye inverters other than sol-ark?
Thanks!
OK so I have an update. I just got off with my local utility and they said that any inverters and/or batteries that interconnect with the grid at any point (ex. through subpanels) must meet these certifications, even if they're never backfeeding for net metering.
Inverters: UL 1741, IEEE 1547...
Thanks for the input! I'm not familiar with a conversion box, how would I go about adding that to the system? Is it something like I connect solar and batteries to inverter(s), then connect inverter(s) to conversion box, then box to main panel?
And the conversion box's job is just to switch...
Thanks for the info so far guys!
I'm in a brand new house, but based on similar builds in my neighborhood our utility said they use about 1200-1600kwh a month on average over a year. We have gas service, so the only major thing is our AC unit and dryer. I live in the southwest where the sun is...
Hey guys!
I'm getting close to completing my DIY solar install parts list, and I'm getting stuck on the inverter. Here's what my needs are:
10-12kwh solar input
48v 30kwh battery backup usage (only during utility peak hours)
Excess solar feeding into the grid when batteries are full and house...
I love the idea of getting used, especially since Santan Solar has such good deals on snail trails and the like. The problem is I think my utility requires the panel labels to be intact and they remove all the labels from most of the used pa else I've seen. Ughhh... I'm planning on building the...
Hey guys!
I'm trying to figure out which panels I want to buy for a 10kwh solar array and found what looks like 2 good deals. These brands are CSUN and REC, which I've heard of REC before.
REC Panels: $99/ea

CSUN Panels...
Well I guess we can disregard this post, the seller just replied saying that these are old inventory and they are no longer planning to manufacture them when they get back from CNY. I guess it's back to the drawing board with 10kwh packs!
They said that they also have a 10kwh pack for $1520, 3...
Great to know, thanks! Where are others getting raw cells for $100/kwh? I'm very open to DIY pack building and that's a great price! I would love not to reinvent the wheel trying to figure out a good BMS, case, etc, when others have already figured it out.
Thanks for helping out with identifying more details about these, guys! When I'm working with the supplier, what type of questions and information should I be requesting? I'm planning on asking for a DoD cycle chart, brand of cells and if they're A quality, and what type of BMS they use.
I...
Sorry about that, I copied from my phone. Let's try this link:

Hey guys, am I reading this right? A seller on Alibaba had a 12.5kw 48V 280AH setup for $1400 supposedly (sample price, $1800 normally).
I've seen some good prices but I'm curious why this doesn't seem to be discussed more - it seems like a crazy deal...
Hi everyone!
I'm getting closer to building out my solar array and wanted to run this by y'all. My local utility charges very high monthly peak demand fees, and many people around me get around that by having peak demand limiters. I personally don't see the point, since my house has gas and...
