  • Post in thread: Can I do this outside of EcoFlow?

I just realized that the well regarded EG4 inverters are also, at least to some extent, Voltronic units. I guess quality can vary widely with Voltronic stuff.
  • Post in thread: Can a solar generator and my AC's hard start kit coexist?

Thanks for the reply and the info! I agree with all you said there. No way to verify those claims. However, the main reason for the post was to get some suggestions on how to approach bringing the central AC (basically the whole house) into my grid down plan. Initially I don't want to mess...
  • Post in thread: Can I do this outside of EcoFlow?

I'm new hear, so hi to everyone. THE QUESTION: Is there another way to achieve an automated (startup and shutdown on demand) generator backup for a solar battery system using an off the shelf inverter generator similar to what EcoFlow offers? BACKGROUND: I'm dipping my feet into a new...
  • Post in thread: OEM Voltronic and it's subsidiaries like MPP Solar

Anyone seen a compiled tier list of the various inverter brands which are Voltronic OEM in some way? It seems EG4 is highly regarded and is Voltronic to some extent. I'm learning and trying to distinguish a good Voltronic inverter from a bad Voltronic inverter.
  • Post in thread: List of Voltronic OEM Inverter brands

Does such a thing exist? Maybe even a tier list of the various inverter brands which are Voltronic OEM in some way? It seems that even the highly regarded EG4 is Voltronic to some extent. I'm learning and trying to distinguish good Voltronic inverters from a bad Voltronic inverters.
  • Post in thread: Desire an Off-Grid System with the ability to charge batteries, if necessary(winter?), from the grid.

I posted this thread yesterday and then found this comment which I'm hoping might answer the question I had in that thread. Someone please tell me about this mythical (to me) inverter which I can program for automated start/stop a generator on demand. Please don't tell me that it only...
  • Post in thread: List of Voltronic OEM Inverter brands

Sure would be cool to find a site elsewhere or post here with a big spreadsheet compiling brand and model of the interter and who the predominant OEM (and their hardware model) is behind it! Once a particular band, model and version of an inverter has been made the OEM for it probably wouldn't...
  • Post in thread: List of Voltronic OEM Inverter brands

Of course, companies like EG4 combine OEM hardware with their own firmware and support which can make a big difference so I'm sure you can't instantly say all inverters with a specific OEM are all good or bad just based on that alone.
  • Post in thread: Can I do this outside of EcoFlow?

Thanks for the response! I don't yet have serious EcoFlow equipment and probably won't. I value the flexibility to make smaller incremental changes to a system even if it comes at the cost of convenience at times. I was also thinking about a remote start stop generator, which you mentioned at...
  • Post in thread: Desire an Off-Grid System with the ability to charge batteries, if necessary(winter?), from the grid.

It's super cool to find out something like this exists in whatever form(s)! So you used an RS-485 serial interface (or may USB) to hook up a Raspberry Pi? Does EG4 actually publish communication specifications or APIs for that or has it just been reverse engineered? Can the same EG4 inverters...
  • Post in thread: Can a solar generator and my AC's hard start kit coexist?

Well my AC is a heat pump so it runs for a lot more of the year than a regular AC. Whenever it's mild enough basically. I just came across this ExpertPower Hybrid Inverter and its battery which is a very nice price if it has programmability and features like EG4, Victron etc. Trying to find...
  • Post in thread: Can a solar generator and my AC's hard start kit coexist?

I'm not yet at the point of having a whole home solar generator system, but I understand that a whole home system usually includes installing a soft start kit on your AC. My old AC just keeps on running even though for many years now it has included a hard start kit which, seems to have had the...
  • Post in thread: Can I do this outside of EcoFlow?

Wow! Great post! Thanks for all that information! The way you laid that out really helps! In the last few weeks of learning I first surveyed the expensive prebuilt crap and couldn't get away from the feeling that I would pay a ton of money and get locked into stuff I didn't want. Based on...
  • Post in thread: Can I do this outside of EcoFlow?

Which brands are your favorite for giving the most control and still allowing a person to buy in small and grow over time? Given my research so far I'm guessing you might say EG4 for instance. Any others? Any that may even have data ports and programmability for adding third party / custom...
  • Post in thread: Can I do this outside of EcoFlow?

Wow again! So informative! So thankful! Glad I'm tracking with you knowledge on this. Didn't think you could mix 48V and 12V on the same inverter but thought I'd ask. Will queck out Pylontech and the CAN protocol! It's on upgrade to the CAN'T protocol I bet. JK! ;-) Wow again! Such...
