I am curious about the viability of lithium batteries as a daily power source in an offgrid residential application. I admit I know very little about lithium batteries and for that reason have never considered them as an alternative when upgrading or replacing my battery bank. My limited understanding of lithium batteries is that they are expensive but on the plus side the amp hour capacity is 100% usable. Ie: you can discharge them completely and then recharge them fully without damage, like the battery in the iPad I am using. Correct me if I am wrong. I am interested in the battery life expectancy of lithium batteries in the application I mentioned. The batteries in my various Apple devices have never been changed yet, one iPad is 11 years old still going strong. Does anyone out there use lithium batteries as the power source in your offgrid home? Has anyone had experience with this? I would appreciate your input.
