What are you planning to power with the inverter?

My opinion is that Xantrex makes very good quality inverters. My 1000 watt inverter is a good 15 years old and working great. But it's a MSW inverter and doesn't get pushed very hard.

I installed a dozen or so Xantrex inverters (mostly 1000's but a couple 2000's too) on various boats in my marina 15, 16 or 17 years ago and unless they have significantly improved their design, the parts they used and their quality control, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. When the first one failed just a few months outside their warranty, we sent it back to the factory for repair and it was over $200 to replace a $5 Mexican relay which switched the incoming AC power from Shore Power to Inverter Power. A tiny made in Mexico relay rated to handle the full incoming 30 amp shore power, regardless of the inverter's less than 10 amp output. The relay would fail even with very little inverter use, but full shore power went through it to run your A/C and other large loads the inverter would never be asked to power

After that, I replaced that crappy relay with a US made one in 5 or 6 of the other inverters I had installed for friends and customers . . . . and saved them about $150 in the process. The failure rate after just 2 or 3 years of use was higher than 50% - Just a poor, poor design

Maybe their more recent stuff is better engineered and they're using better parts, but if I was buying an inverter today, Xantrex would not be at the top of my list . . . .

pick a pure sine version off amazon with a lot of good reviews. at that wattage there is nothing special about them.

Of all the off shore manufacturers one stands out.....that is Samlex AKA Cotek. They make very good small inverters. I got 20 plus years from a Cotek SK-1500-124 without a hiccup..very clean pure sine wave Mine ran 24/7 small loads avg. 400-600 watts. The SK line is no longer available but they have a new line to replace it.

Then there is the “Brick”. The Morningstar 12 volt 300 watt inverter, very clean sine wave and the things run forever....very trouble free, quiet. Never heard a complaint about the brick. For a super small system that you can count on....the Brick

oops......went back and reread your post....skip the brick....it’s only available as 12 volt and that is why I didn’t have one.

Rhino,

you have made a very good choice, my main inverter is a Exeltech XP-1100 24 volt unit, super clean wave shape. These are the standard in the telecommunications industry due to the extremely low EMI/RFI emitted by these units.
Ive had mine for years but used a Cotek SK-1500-124 for everyday use and reserved my Exeltech for “radio quiet times. I have a much larger MagnaSine MS4024AE that I use for the workshop as it is low frequency and can handle hugely inductive loads unlike high frequency units.

FYI...Exeltech has the highest MTBF rating of any Inverter.......Mean Time Between Failure......They are used in every U.S. Embassy worldwide as a last line of communications back to Washington when shit hits the fan....when you are in deep doo doo you want the best there is......
