CATL 271Ah cell issues.

View attachment 66175View attachment 66174View attachment 66173

These arrived today UPS. Tracking number was FedEx??? As stated before, just showed up on the doorstep. All of the boxes were in fairly good shape. They packaged them well. QRS codes were intact. They showed a 7/20/2021 test date. The threads on top are just removable strips of adhesive.

They used molded foam inserts which embodied almost the entire cell. No initial bloating noted. The box that had the best packing only had 2 batteries and 4 side inserts. Sadly, it was also the one with a bent over terminal and a leaking battery. So far 15 out of 16 cells look fairly good. Have yet to take them out and do a full inspection.

These were received from the "problem" supplier according to Michael.

At first when I saw yours were delivered by UPS I wasn't sure mine were delivered by FedEx so I checked my boxes and verified that they were delivered by FedEx. I also took the tracking number off one of the boxes and looked it up and found out my other 2 boxes are in Charlotte SC and they are expected to be delivered on Monday.

I'm not sure what's going on with the original tracking number Michael sent me, but when I look it up it has all my address information and looks ready to go. I assume the shipper created it but forgot about it or the information got lost so they created another but the update never made it to me.

Good to hear...
Fedex just told me the last 2 boxes (waiting 17 days for delivery from the local facility) are being returned to the shipper/Chino

Every cell in the 9 boxes I received measured 3.077v-3.083v except for one which measured 2.907v. Is this an issue causing accelerated self discharge or just shipped at a lower voltage? This cell was one of two physically unblemished cells I received out of 9 boxes but it was also the ONLY one without a serial #...

So I'm finishing up my email can all the pictures be in one Zip file in one email? If not your looking at probably 20+ emails for the 14 packages because of Gmail file size restrictions.
This guy does pack them well and does the right thing with damage.
Apparently your order and at least one other one that has been delivered that were from him were in a shared container. One of the boxes that another supplier had in there caught fire and lots of damage was done to the boxes that were hastily pulled/thrown out of the container. No idea why they would go ahead and deliver any of them that were beat up like that.

I will ask him about the 2.907v cell tonight......................was the voltage that they were shipped at on the label?

Update.....my supplier says that the 2.907v cells should not be any problem at all.

TBH I don't want to cancel everything and request refund, I really do not want to but this situation is truly distressing.
Multiply that by a great deal and that is how distressing it is for me too.
IF they replace cells, and we agree to them doing that......I am going to have an Alibaba representative check the cells and packaging before they are allowed to ship them. That is a free service available to those that are high volume buyers that I was just offered a couple of weeks ago.

Michael,
I appreciate you dealing with this mess for me. Personally I'm glad I have a middle man with some clout negotiating on my behalf when ordering directly from china.

Email sent this morning. Hopefully they will ship replacements quickly.
Thanks,
Jeff

Hey Michael,
I sent you forum messages just about two weeks ago, and e-mails a week ago to your PayPal and refund e-mail addresses from my personal and Gmail accounts and haven't yet heard back. I'm requesting update because FedEx returned half of my shipment to the shipper in California due to invalid labeling. You are my only contact regarding this and FedEx Customer Service was unable to reach anyone via the numbers they had on file for the shipper.

Can I please get an update on the other half of my order? All the details are in the various e-mails that I sent.

@Michael B Caro i ordered 26 cells from you back in March. I have been trying to call and email you to get an update. How about one here? What is the status of my order?

Phil

Just received from Fedex part of my shipment of 16 CATL 271ah from EV packs that I ordered through Michael. I got 2 boxes of 3 cells & 2 boxes of 2 cells along with the buss bars and nuts. The boxes were only slightly banged up and were just dropped off at my door without me knowing they were even due to arrive as the tracking number never activated and still has not done so. At this point still waiting for 2 boxes of 3 cells.

They appear to be packed well and the only thing I could gripe about so far is the blue skin around the top of the cells has been peeled back from when they put the foam padding onto the top of them.

They don't appear to have any significant bulging but I wouldn't say they are perfectly flat either. The QR codes are intact which makes me wonder if they are actually cells that came from EV packs as I expected the codes to be removed as I didn't think repurposed EV cells would qualify as new warrantied cells, but perhaps I'm wrong about that.

Since I wasn't expecting them yet I wasn't ready to begin testing them, but will be gearing up to do so shortly. Hopefully there will be no surprises with them.

Received from Fedx the last six batteries from my order and despite there being a fist size hole on the end of one of the boxes they all arrived undamaged. Now on to top balancing and capacity testing.

As of the 16th, they were saying that the process could take up to two more weeks. So, hopefully they will have something for us a week from tomorrow. But, going by what suppliers have tried in the past, I am guessing it will NOT be what we want and I will have to fight with them some more to get what we should get. Just being honest
Any news from the supplier?

Michael,
Please let me know if the pictures in a .zip / Google drive worked or if I need to send individual pictures in multiple emails.

Thanks

ok so after waiting all this time, they want a count of now many cells for each of you fall in each catagory:

For this abnormality, we first suggest you the following operations:
1. Please tell you each customer to check all the batteries, and count the 0 voltage, leakage, and serious deformation to us,
2. Slight pits and insulation The skin is damaged and there is no leakage. Products with normal voltage are recommended to your customers as much as possible. I have confidence in the safety and reliability of the products we provide. At the same time, we will seek compensation from the freight forwarder to minimize the loss of you and your customers.
3. According to the products you provide with 0 voltage, leakage, and serious deformation in Article 1, we will be able to give you the best packaging, the best quality, and the most reasonable speed.

I assume that 3 means that for those cells they plan on providing replacements. Again, if this ends up being the case I will be having an Alibaba representative check what is being sent before the boxes are sealed up and they will check the packaging too.

Michael - thanks for the update. Sounds promising for those who received damaged cells.

But what about what was supplied? These aren't "Grade A brand new cells" that I was sold. Given the QR codes are scratched (which is even less faith-inspiring) there is no way for any of us to validate exactly how old they are. Are they 50% of through their lifespan? They are certainly well used.

What is the plan around compensation from your supplier on what was provided/misrepresented to us?

All 4 of mine are seriously deformed.

Been hesitant to bring it up, but as it looks like the vendor won't be having cells shipped back to them, what's the best way to dispose of these things? They basically sent a bunch of people packages of hazardous waste. Time for another thread, I think.

I know HomeDepot and Lowes has a LIPO/LIFEPO4 battery recycling drop offs. At least here in Cali.
