Why climate change is real

Sorry, but I didn't read those articles .... I am just going from what I remember of the catastrophes that were already supposed to have happened that didn't happen.
Just like a person who claims to see the future .... if you make enough predictions some will be true.
A dead clock is right twice a day.

Eggs have been declared good for you .... then next year they are going to kill you.
Crisco is one of the most damaging foods ever invented and it was supposed to be so much better than animal fat and butter ..... There seems to always be an agenda that corrupts the truth.

But that's not how models work. They're not just predictions; they're predictions based on refining and building the math that makes complex systems tick. The more data you get, the faster you can compute and process this data, the better your analytical tools become, and the more accurate the models become. We model complex systems all the time to make predictions.

I understand ..... trust us we know what we are talking about this time.

The earth doesn't orbit the sun in a perfect circle, and the sun doesn't emit a constant amount of energy. None of the models take into account the 11 year solar cycle or the earth's position from the sun.

Here is what I am certain of: I'm going to get taxed way more than I want, and one day I will die. In the meantime, I am going to enjoy a fat steak, a good bourbon, and a beautiful woman. Maybe not in that order, but the point is, I can't fix any of this and I'm going to enjoy the life God gave me in the time I have, under the circumstances I find myself in.

One more thing I'm certain of (and it may be the Bourbon talking): The people on this forum are friggin' brilliant.

Maybe God believed you were the one that would solve this problem, or at least do your part, but you chose not to care. He might be disappointed.

I'm just going to let you be right. Seems important to you.

In post #58 my intention wasn't to make any determination or opinion on what is true or not about climate science ... it was merely an attempt to help those who don't understand why so many are skeptical about it.

I am aware that you didnt say it that but you are saying that you believe everyone should not share their opinions because you dont agree with them and if they do, they can suffer.

"The science" has turned into a catch phrase that has become a dog whistle. At this point you really cant trust anything anyone is saying and if you are not educated and have a bit of a base to understand biology, you are kind of screwed. Both the anti-vax crowd and the mandate people are claiming "science".

As long as you are for freedom, regardless of how intelligent or informed a person is/chooses to be, and they are solely responsible for the out come we are on the same page.

And the rest of the quote?
Science is the golden standard of human knowledge.. Con artists will use whatever works to their advantage, and in the case of a lot of issues today, that would be hitching their arguments to science..

Usually, it isn't hard to find the flaw.. that is, the part of science they're using inappropriately or have just intentionally falsified.

Science is a catch phrase because our species has grown up enough to leave religion behind.. Claiming its "god's will" (pick your favorite god), will mostly just get laughed at by anyone intelligent enough to balance their own checkbook.

A growing % of people just don't trust what we are being spoon fed by those who consider themselves the "overlords."

There is no disputing that the "climate science" has been wrong with every prediction made up to now.
It has been discussed on the Covid thread how big a problem it is that we have simply not been told the truth about so many things Covid.

The children's book about the child who called wolf so many times that people ignored it when it was true .... is the best way to describe it that I can think of.
Those in power know they can gain more power when there is a crisis ... and they take advantage of it over and over again.

Sorry, but there is a large accumulation of resistance to crisis language for good reason.

I do think we need to be as environmentally responsible as we possible can, but refuse to be jerked around by those crying wolf over and over again.

I'm also not saying that there is no science that shows human influenced climate change exists. I'm just trying to explain that those tired who are tired of all the crisis talk have good reason to be tired of it.
Its always funny how some folks make statements claiming truth.. but such statements are completely false.
A clear sign of a quasi-trained propaganda machine.

Well .... we've gone a LONG time without bringing religion into the conversation ..... that's a really quick way to totally ruin it.
.....but, maybe that was your intention.

Agree completely

Going to partially agree with this. Up until we had the ability to freely to share information in a free and rapid way as we are now, The information we had access to was though legacy media and authoritative publications. We had no real viable way to verify or get second opinions so society was basically lams to the slaughter.

Science is a catch phrase because our species has grown up enough to leave religion behind.. Claiming its "god's will" (pick your favorite god), will mostly just get laughed at by anyone intelligent enough to balance their own checkbook.
Yes we understand enough now that we now dont have to relegate much/anything to the realm of "Gods will" or an "act of God". Knowledge has replaced that crutch, but religion has significance well beyond what science has made obsolete.

This post from the beginning was bound to devolve, and I believe that it has now done so to the point locking it is warranted. Unfortunately climate change remains a politically charged topic in the United States, and to a lesser extent a handful of other countries, and for many its hard to disentangle the political from the scientific.

Up to now, this thread has wandered from climate change, to vax/anti-vax, abortion, and now religion, which to me shows this is much less about a scientific discussion and much more a discussion of politics and worldview. I do believe that this is a case of a conversation doing more to harm the cohesiveness and mutual respect of the community, than any potential gain from allowing this to continue to wander. This forum is really not the place for political or religious discussions or debates, conspiracy theories, or promoting any particular worldview over another, there is little to be gained, and a lot to be lost as a community. We are growing fast, and a lot of the closeness that characterized the first year or two is already dissipating, I think divisive topics like this will only serve to accelerate that.

If you feel I was wrong in locking this topic, feel free to message me or report this comment for another moderator to review. I personally feel there is much more value in preserving the closeness and friendliness (or "fellowfeeling" to borrow a cool archaic word from Adam Smith) of the community (and keeping the focus on the topics that bring us all together in the first place) at the expense of a slightly more heavy handed enforcement of the no political or conspiracy posts rule (this seems to have become more of a problem in recent months). Thank you for understanding, or at least accepting that this action is taken in good faith even if you disagree with the decision itself.
