12v mini air conditioner?

you can get a 9000 or 11000 BTU roof unit in the high profile.

I think the profile has little todo with noise level. When you look at the specs - there are also high profile which are loud :p It's more like that one manufacturers low profile are loud.

A lot of the reason for noise is needing to use a small fan to move a ton of air. This means high fan speeds and high noise. There actually is a correlation.

The issue you're describing is the manufacturers just not giving a damn and still using the same small fan, or one that's only very slightly larger with improves very little.

Fan blade design and housing design makes a difference, A 18 inch box fan is more noisy then a 12 inch Air Circulator design - which moves even a lot more air.

Further there low profile units which have the condenser fan vertical - so they actually use a larger fan then the high profile ones.

You are right about the not giving a damn part :p when manufacturers don't see return they will not put in the feature.

Yes. But a given manufacturer doesn't typically change designs significantly between models. So you can really only compare a given manufacturer to itself, and normally their low pro stuff is louder if they even offer it.

But there's always an exception.

I'll have to see if I can find someone with one of those "quiet series" units. They're about 1200 bucks... Manageable. I can always sell my current AC, or stick it on my shed roof!

"Quiet" is a limited ability in a rtu...
Everything is in the unit, compressor, fan motor, and fans... sound deadening can only get you so far.
For really quiet, the options are split systems.

I agree with this statement, just not on your initial generalization. Low profile doesn't mean noisy in general, and high profile doesn't mean silent in general.

It's always up to the induvial model.

Totally understand. Even a few DB from a more efficient/quiet fan (which is where all of the cabin noise comes from) makes a huge difference when your camp is 15 feet long and everything you do is less than 6 feet from the fan.

For the camper you pictured, although it is small compared to other RVs, it is still too big and has too much glass and probably not well enough insulated for a 1500btu ac. There is only one guy on this forum lately that has said he has ordered a 1500btu ac and he has not got it or installed it one, so he cannot report back yet.
Yes, the guy in the boat has half his "vehicle" in cool water, not out in 90 degree air, so boats will be easier to cool in that regard, though always humidity is a factor of course and everyone knows about humidity so wont go there....
If you are looking for an ac to help you sleep cool then vent the ac air into a tent covered bed tent, or directly under your top bed spread or something. It will cool that small a space easily, but not the entire interior of the RV. Even just blowing the air on you will help.

The OP died of old age and never did find the air conditioner that would work for him. The camper itself is rotting in a junkyard.

Are you being serious here?
No. It's a two year old thread with no updates. I always thought it was funny when someone answered a time-critical post waaaayyy too late only to be informed that the OP had died in the mean time waiting on the answer.

lol. yea, he gave up pretty quick, or wether got cooler.
Is not necessarily bad to continue a topic as you can see the post to reader ratio means there are a lot of people reading the topic for some reason, maybe to find their own answers to the same question.
