MORE INFO:

The cells are from Shenzhen Zhongtong Battery Co., Ltd. on Alibaba:

https://vancely.manufacturer.globalsources.com/si/6008855331313/CompanyProfile.htm

After intial contact on Alibaba, they asked for my email and I get messages from the domain xuhotrong.com, from a jack at xuhotrong.com

Their listing for the BYD Blade cells:

BYD 3.2V 138AH deep cycle blade battery rechargeable lifepo4 lithium ion battery

Is this company legit?

What do you think of this battery pack?

More info on the BYD Blade Cells here: https://en.byd.com/news/byds-new-blade-battery-set-to-redefine-ev-safety-standards/

The length of the cells makes me a bit nervous to be shipped. I think UPS/FedEx is going to do unspeakable things to a box that size/shape/weight. I would have them double package this (two layers of cardboard) if you do decide to go with them.

Looks too long to be useful in anything other than an EV.
You could make a similar pack using more standard prismatic cells.

I think the cell cost is a smoking deal, but the shipping kills it. Less than $100 per kw has been the holy grail for a while now. This would be $175 per kw delivered, and EVE cells are hovering around $150-165 per kw.

I was looking at these last week, they have to be used or reject cells, as getting hands on BYD blade cells is almost impossible.

I would imagine that we will see new BYD cells in 18 months, as i believe they are building another 3 cell manufacturing plants at the moment.

For a static battery power pack, i think they will work, space is tight for mobile use, such as a campervan or RV.

As its been pointed out, the Delivery guys will destroy these due to length, even with double boxing i have my doubts.

Still they look like a great cell

You get a 5.2kwh battery pre built from CHINS delivered for $1500. So this is my baseline. $300 kWh for everything with all casing etc.

You need to add a case and compression depending on the application. Add a few more dollars.

It all depends how large of a battery you want to build. If you do a 20-30kwh battery. Sure it makes sense. To save on per kWh. But if you only want 7kwh?

Would be too much risk in shipping for my taste

I came here to say this. I'm sure it's safe, but it's not making me FEEL safe.

Also what's up with the charging spec? -10 to +50C?
Most cells you can charge below 0C there is no water H2O inside a LFP cell. No reason to assume they freeze at 0C.
That's only for YouTube videos, makes a nice story.

Most LFP cells freeze somewhere between -10c and -30c depending on the chemistry.

Is it good for their livespan to charge full power below 0C no. But they still accepting a low charge at with little problem under 0C

I will ask if these are new or used / reject cells.

But seems like these blade cells are safer than standard prismatic cells:

Nobody is saying that these are bad cells. They are perfect for the automotive application

Most here are worried about shipping. Long and skinny cells, which are heavy.

All my batteries boxes I received where beat up. If you not freight them in on a pallet you are just gambling on the condition they arrive.

Those cells are great, I'm thinking about building an EV with them. But I'm not trusting boxed Shipping, and a pallet is currently very expensive

seems like really awesome and safe cells that could more easily be damaged in transit than the low aspect ratio cells seen around.

unless shipped with a wooden frame or something equivalent, to protect in transit, i would personally not risk the loss.

"With a wooden from or something equivalent" is a great suggestion. I am asking them how the cells will be shipped.

If not with them, then this other vendor on Alibaba has this picture in their Packing and Delivery tab:

When you look closely, that is a pallet.

Probably the best way for shipping aside buying a whole container.

Makes absolutely sense when you buy more then 20kwh. I can not imagine that they freight 7kwh with a pallet.

I found footprints on my poorly parked flexible panel on the box when it was delivered. I was freaking out, but the panel worked fine. With a battery, I’m not sure I could ever feel comfortable.

For an RV build with access to something like a pass through storage, I can see mounting these on the roof or the floor, and still being able to use the pass through compartment.
