I have a new 17Kw Generac Solar System with battery. My question to all you veterans is how do you reduce all those fee's that the electric company charges you every month? Ohio Edison is killing me with these fee's.

If you're grid tied backfeeding to the grid for credit, you can't avoid it.

If you have full grid-down functionality, you can set some systems to zero export, use batteries as much as possible, particularly during on-peak times and then supplement with grid when the juice is gone.

You would never export back to the grid and could thus cancel your grid-tie contract.

You are not getting away from the fees... In fact, I envision that most electric companies will be charging substantial fees going forward and almost giving the electricity away. Businesses (share holders, the market, etc.) LOVE recurring income, so businesses are trying to push more and more towards this model. $20 base charge, $10 delivery fee, $5 connection fee, oh and I guess a kwh fee...

If it makes you feel any better, I am currently paying $22.50 for a meter that is sitting idle while I build my house.

I don't think he's talking about those fees - more about the fees associated with grid-tie connections. They can be very high. I looked at installing solar to provide 70% of my annual need... saved me 30% due to added fees. I decided, "no, thank you."

Years ago fix fees were doubled for everyone and rates reduced for the few. Solar was the excuse but the target really was the majority conserving. Example of a chumps hardship and labor benefiting only the powerful. Changed my behavior....and not for the better.
Like the gas station charging you $50 to use the pump and 10¢ per gallon of gas.
