Top balanced for how long

Hi all

So finally at a stage of getting to top balance. How long do you leave it at this voltage and connected in parallel?

Also what's the views of using the shunt as a capacity tester.
Battery , shunt, bms. So shunt keeps memory of ah

I just wait until the current starts to drop. Do you have a way to measure current?

Sorry I mean. Once it is at top voltage. And before you start capacity test.
How long do you leave the cells in parallel configuration...balancing into each other

I bring my cells up to 3.65 and stop. Let it settle for few hours and then check each cell. If they are at or near 3.45 I'm finished. If not continue to balance but monitor closely. What are you using to balance them and do you have a decent meter to monitor voltage

I've now got a fluke multimeter with very accurate reading 0.001 resolution
Weirdly I charged to 3.63, topped it up to 3.65 and it seems to have over shot to 3.7. Not much I can do about that now ?‍

Then that was too long, but not a problem unless they were left there for days.

Top balancing to 3.60 is plenty good. When in use you don't charge to 3.65. For a fun experiment with one of my small portable packs I might try bottom balancing.

If you have a BMS on that pack it would be interesting to see how long it took the BMS to unwind the bottom balance and get it top balanced.
