Adding an auxiliary LIFEPO4 battery, charged off the alternator, to a vehicle 1.1

A schematic drawing showing how an Auxiliary 12 volt, 100ah LIFEPO4 battery can be added to an car, boat or truck.​

Included is low temp charging protection via a common electronic thermostat control board. Isolation is provided via a smart isolator. This prevents the LIFEPO4 battery from discharging into the lead acid starting battery and prioritizes the starting battery for charging. This setup is proven to work well.​

Since a smart thermostat is included, it would be easy to add a heating pad to warm the battery in low temps, to allow charging below a 32 degree ambient temperature. All of this can fit into a common 12 volt marine battery box which is widely available for about $15.​

Your setup does not provide the LiFePO4 battery with a proper charging profile. It also does not limit the charging current that can be drawn by the LiFePO4 battery when it is in a low state of charge.
May I suggest a DC-DC charger, which would provide the proper charging profile and isolation from the vehicle electrical system. Your temperature control system could control the DC-DC charger and warm the battery. However most LiFePO4 battery BMS systems provide the low temperature charging lockout and some cold weather rated batteries have a built-in heater.

A charging "profile" is not required. Check out the Signature Solar chargeverter. A constant voltage power supply with current limiting works just fine. Lifepo4 batteries are much simpler to charge than lead acid. An alternator is a constant voltage power supply. I have found that 100ah lifepo4 batteries have limited charging current on their own unless force charged at relatively high voltages. If the battery requires more than 30 amps to charge, the 30 amp fuse will blow. I have never blown the 30 amp fuse.
Most Lifepo4 batteries dont have low temp protection and even fewer have internal heating. This works well and its simple.
