Beware of Docan Technologies (Issue Resolved)

I raised the issue with Docan and after some back and forth they are willing to send me a replacement cell, but I need to pay for the shipping. (~$46). I can keep the damaged cell. I suppose I'll need to dispose of it responsibly which means a trip to the recycle park but that's a weekly trip...

    JBD BMS in parallel

Well,... No, its not doing it's job, it disconnects on high voltage, that's fine (there are reasons why it hit that, one of the reasons is that I'm going to top balance and trying to cramm all the amps in there before all the cells are placed in parallel later on) -- however, it should cut back...

    JBD BMS in parallel

Hi. I have 304 and 280ah batt bank, wired in parallel, both have a JBD BMS, the one with the relay : Jaibaida AP20S003S 7~20S. I'm having an issue with the 280ah; it'll trigger an over-voltage disconnect (one cell will peak to 3.65) and the relay will disconnect the battery and because the 304...

Growatt SPF5000ES doesn't trip RCD in batterymode

It's interesting, when the system is in ByPass it'll have two hots, rcd triggers when fault testing, when it's in solar/battery I have a true L+N, rcd also triggers. It switches in 50ms from L1+L2 to L+N. The house has 3x230 but in the main distribution panel one was terminated and the house was...

Growatt SPF5000ES doesn't trip RCD in batterymode

Ah, I also live in Belgium. You wouldn't want an auto transformer, it cannot create a true neutral, I checked with EREA and others. I simply gave up on it and have implemented everything following the Synergrid regulations and I switch between grid and sun when offgrid installation runs out of...

Growatt SPF5000ES doesn't trip RCD in batterymode

I live in a land with 230 Pixies available at the electric tap. However I have no Neutral, I have 3 x 230v. So 230V between fases, 135V between fase and earth. It's a crapfest.

Growatt SPF5000ES doesn't trip RCD in batterymode

Latency on the internal relays, one will always be slower and cause earth fault? I'd love it if you found out, currently I have no RCD before the inverters, only downstream. The inverters are tied to ground, so any mishap there will send it straight into mother earth and anything coming from...

    JBD BMS Wi-Fi Module

I'm using the esp8266 unit. I'll have a look for a esp32 unit. Thx for the tip --- I have a raspberry pi next to the batteries to monitor all kinds of related thing and I decided to enable the onboard uart and open up ttyS0. Lo and behold I can talk to the "dumb" bms now. Excellent, that...

    JBD BMS Wi-Fi Module

Awesome thread. If this works it will help mitigate the problem I have with my bms; they shipped me a version with no RS485 support. Which I really wanted so I can ingest the data. Been stuck with the dumb bluetooth app so far. I'm trying to hook it up with a nodemcu and a voltage reg...

Beware of Docan Technologies (Issue Resolved)

Huh. I wasn't going to make a post about it but I've recently received my batch of 280Ah cells, 16pcs, from Docan. When I place these cells next to those I received from Amy it's clear that the Docan cells are not A grade. Worse yet, one of the cells is not performing correctly. It's capacity...

    Jaibaida AP20S003S 7~20S

Ive since ordered a second one. As a bms it's pretty good tho tracking of the SOC is not good at all. So the second one has no rs485. In order to track the SOC (and kwhin/out) I installed a victron smartshunt, that thing seems to be pretty reliable.

Looking to read kwh in and kwh out of battery

I've rolled my own kwh energy meter for energy in and out of the battery by sampling the watts in/out at a fixed interval. It works but it's all getting to be alot to maintain. So I was wondering, is there perhaps some type of shunt ot "box" that can measure the kwh in and out of the battery...

What is the advantage of choosing for a BMS that can talk to your inverter? (Seplos)

I think you need to set that in your charge controller. I mean, if it can not detect that the battery has been disconnected it's not a very good charge controller ;)

What is the advantage of choosing for a BMS that can talk to your inverter? (Seplos)

Ok dude, respectfully, please stop. I don't shy contrarian POV but they have to be informed points, not just random stuff flung to the wall, I'm trying to weed out the nonsense and would love to keep this thread on point.

What is the advantage of choosing for a BMS that can talk to your inverter? (Seplos)

I debated that as well; but the 304 cell will sink current until it will reach 3.65 and then it'll shut down by means of the bms. The parallel 280AH, which if full, will have too high a resistance and the current will go to the 304ah. These pairs should also equalize themselves. I don't really...

What is the advantage of choosing for a BMS that can talk to your inverter? (Seplos)

Merde alors :) But note that Seplos also doesn't support putting a 280ah and 304ah in parallel. At least that is what I was told by the Seplos rep. on Alibaba. He did argue that the difference between the 304 and 280 isn't that large and it should work out fine.

What is the advantage of choosing for a BMS that can talk to your inverter? (Seplos)

Thanks for your replies. So there are some advantages but it all kind of depends on the charge controller, or inverter, that will talk to the BMS; how does it use the data it is getting from the BMS to manage it's charging. Unfortunately, there isn't a lot to be found on the growatt website...

What is the advantage of choosing for a BMS that can talk to your inverter? (Seplos)

In that case, I mean, reading all this, there doesn't seem a clear answer. Two people that are quite into it even made videos about it stating that there is no real benefit. This system I have installed and plan to expand will need to perform and will need to be robust. It sounds like adding...

What is the advantage of choosing for a BMS that can talk to your inverter? (Seplos)

Hi I'm going to be adding a 48v 280AH battery to my existing 48v 304AH battery storage. Currently the 304AH battery pack has a JBD bms which is doing it's job, keeping the cells safe. It does not have any communication to my inverters (2P SPF5000ES), the inverters know when to disconnect the...

    Expanding a 304AH 16S with a 280AH 16S

Ok, so better to build two distinct batteries and parallel them. I'm thinking of getting that Seplos BMS for the 280 pack and keep the JBD on the 304 pack. Then I'll parallel the packs and connect the Seplos to my Growatt inverters via S485 so it can report the SOC. Would that work ?

    Expanding a 304AH 16S with a 280AH 16S

Hi I currently run a 304AH 16S battery bank. It's nearly always full at the end of the day but I can't quite get trough the night with it's stored capacity due to electrical heating eating a ton of energy. So I decided to add another bank to the setup albeit being slightly smaller in AH due...

    Jaibaida AP20S003S 7~20S

Oh and the description above on how to wire it is obviously for a 16 cell battery and I can confirm that works. Before you actually start using it you might want to remove the HC05 BT module out of it and extend the wires on it so you can free it from being stuffed inside the BMS between those...

I haven't checked what the draw of it is. I tested the overcurrent, short circuit and over/under voltage and that worked as expected. Then I kicked it into production and haven't looked back. It does have some issue tracking the SOC. It's pretty good at keeping track between 20 and 80% but...

jbd / overkill bms - state of charge

I would say that 100 to 20 SOC tracking is pretty good but once you drop under the 20%SOC it's just spitballin' it and you can't rely on the SOC. It's useless below 20.
