I cannot get my EG4-LLs to talk to Solar Assistant for the life of me

No you're probably right. An oscilloscope would have been the right tool for this. I just wanted to see if there was anything going across those pins.

I cannot get my EG4-LLs to talk to Solar Assistant for the life of me

Some other stuff I found out today which might be interesting: I tested continuity across all 8 pins of the RS485 port on the battery, using the image above as a reference, the following pins are bridged: 1 - 8 2 - 7 3 - 6 I also checked voltage across every pin to every other pin and found...

I cannot get my EG4-LLs to talk to Solar Assistant for the life of me

I am trying to connect my EG4-LL (24V) batteries to Solar Assistant. I have two questions that I cannot figure out. 1. How do I wire up an ethernet cable to the RS485-to-USB adapter? 2. Given the EG4's wonky DIP switch issues, how can I be sure I'm on the right address (address 2 per Solar...

Strategies for running Growatts in Open Loop US2 Mode

I have 2x Growatt 3000 SPF inverters (operating in split-phase) and 2x EG4-LL 24v 200Ah batteries in parallel. I've been using LI mode on the inverters for a few months with the RS485 port connected to the master inverter without issue. I switched to US2 mode and configured my charging voltages...

Growatt Overloading Only When on Generator

I've never heard of Solar Assistant but now I know what I'm doing tonight. Thanks!

Growatt Overloading Only When on Generator

No I cannot. The Growatts don't have any remote write capability. Read only. If they did, I could wire up a cool automation with Home Assistant to reduce the charge current when the AC switches on.

Growatt Overloading Only When on Generator

Yeah that's what I mean. I thought about reaching out to Signature Solar and seeing if they have plans to make a 24V version but I doubt it since it's based on an EG4 AIO and they only make those in 48V.

Growatt Overloading Only When on Generator

The two hot legs do not read 240V between them. They read 0V between them because they are the same leg coming off the generator.

Growatt Overloading Only When on Generator

This is the ideal solution. If I could get the chargeverter in 24V, I'd buy it in an instant. I've found a few battery chargers that can max out at 35 charging amps at 24 volts, but that just won't be enough to offset the AC. I wasn't taking into account the conversion loss and was assuming...

Growatt Overloading Only When on Generator

The two inverters are in the same phase. This configuration is consistent with the inverter manual.

Growatt Overloading Only When on Generator

Right, but the generator is not overloading. The inverter is.

Growatt Overloading Only When on Generator

Even so, charging at 30 amps and running the AC does not exceed the inverter's capacity (as shown in my previous calculation). I'm now thinking that dirty power from the generator damaged the inverter. When the AC is on, the inverter output drops to 100V. With it off, output rises to 136V. With...

Growatt Overloading Only When on Generator

22 amps per inverter which supplies about 20 amps to each battery during charging. I don't see anything in the manual that discusses this. I think the issue is that the generator outputs dirty power over 50% load and that's causing issues with the inverters.

Can I run parallel inverters in single phase for a 50A RV?

I went ahead and configured them in single phase and am not using the current sharing cable. What are the pros and cons of the power sharing capability?

Growatt Overloading Only When on Generator

The two inverters are in parallel running two legs of 120V each. The generator provides 1 leg of 120V. I am connecting that to my RV with a dogbone connector which sends the 1 120V leg to both inverters. By my math, I'm at about 65% of the generator's running capacity. Should I expect the...

Growatt Overloading Only When on Generator

The only thing I can think is that the generator starts to output dirty power at higher loads and the Growatts can't handle this and freak out. Generator: Westinghouse iGen4500DFc The Growatt is set to accept generator power which means it will accept a voltage range of 65-140VAC.

Growatt Overloading Only When on Generator

I have 2x 3kW Growatt inverters and 2x 24v 200Ah LiFePO4 batteries on my RV. Where I will be staying for the next month, there is virtually zero direct sunlight available to my PV array. I am attempting to charge my batteries with a few hours of generator every day. I am experiencing some...

Can I run parallel inverters in single phase for a 50A RV?

I'm using the same language as the inverter manufacture per the image I attached above. I've clarified the way my system is configured so hopefully there's no more confusion.

Can I run parallel inverters in single phase for a 50A RV?

I think the only reason I would have to run them in split phase is because shore power coming from a NEMA 14-50 outlet will be in split phase and I'll get the phase error on the inverters if they are configured for single phase. If I'm using the dogbone connector for a 30A outlet, then they will...

Can I run parallel inverters in single phase for a 50A RV?

An important note: the neutral wires from both inverters joins to a single 6AWG neutral wire running to the power center. About 15 feet of cable.

Can I run parallel inverters in single phase for a 50A RV?

My RV has a 50A electrical system. I have two 3kW Growatt inverters running in parallel and configured for split phase power. Yesterday, I plugged my RV into a 15A standard plug by using a 50A to 30A dogbone adapter and then a 30A to 15A adapter. I expected my inverters to complain that they...

Need Advice: Generator or More Battery

In full sun, I've got plenty of PV. The issue is the warm evenings and nights. The battery charger approach won't work now that I did some math. Best I can get is 16A at 24V which is not enough at all to offset the power consumption of the AC. My best bet at this point is a generator I...

Need Advice: Generator or More Battery

I just finished my first solar build on my RV a few weeks ago and drove across the country with it. We are currently boondocking at my sister's house. I have 2x 3kW Growatt inverters, 3.2kW of PV panels, and 10kWh of 24v LiFePO batteries. Over the last two weeks, I've discovered that I do not...

50A RV with both ACs on one leg: Move one AC to the other leg?

I don't believe there is any energy management system and even if there were, switching one AC to the other leg shouldn't impact that system right? Yes two 24v 200Ah batteries and 3150W of panels. I will most likely be using the propane mode for the water heater. And I'll tell my wife no...

50A RV with both ACs on one leg: Move one AC to the other leg?

2x Growatt SPF 3000TL, 24V I have soft starts that I'm going to be installing probably this weekend. The specs for the power center say it's rated for 120A at 12V. So I think that's why they use a 20A breaker. No matter though, your idea to use that breaker for the AC makes sense. I...

50A RV with both ACs on one leg: Move one AC to the other leg?

I am installing solar, inverters, and batteries in my rig right now. I've noticed that my power center has both AC units on one of the 50A legs. My inverters are only 3kW each so I'm limited to 25A per leg. I think running both ACs on one inverter runs a good risk of over-drawing current. The...

    EG4-LL Protect Mode when Starting

That's basically how I did it. The 24-12V converter is connected to the bus bar with no switch (I'm fixing that this weekend) and the inverter AC output was switched on.

    EG4-LL Protect Mode when Starting

I have two of the batteries but I only have one connected right now. Is there a different startup cycle I should be using? It's possible I had the inverter switched on when I switched on the battery but I can't remember for sure.

    EG4-LL Protect Mode when Starting

I spent the day wiring up my two Growatt 3000TL inverters and EG4-LL batteries in my Fifth Wheel. Wiring the Batteries to the Power Control Center

I am finalizing the purchase for my 24V Solar Build. I have a Progressive Dynamics PD4560 power control center. My understanding is that I need to bypass the built in converter and use a 24V-12V converter to connect my batteries to the control center. However, is there some way where the...
