    They're older Kyocera off-grid panels. The Kyocera "GT" (grid tie) panels have sealed diode boxes and MC-4 leads for series wiring.

    Much harder to "be one with your panels" on a roof mount. I can on my roof when needed due to the 0 degree pitch.

    Your active balancing should come on at about 3.40 - 3.45 vdc. Your absorb setting in the charging circuit should be turned down to minutes at most.

    2 Parallel strings of batteries are doable with the diagonal+ of one battery/- of the other battery method but you could also go with a bus bar set up. Makes servicing batteries easier and adding 48 Volt loads easier.

    Didn't (doesn't) the Tesla Powerwall come in high voltage? They originally were going to have a 48 volt version as well but stopped that. I was bummed at that because I saw Off-Grid potential with the 48 volt version.

    Even in an open, tree free area, I would still be concerned about the panels being butted up against taller items on the roof. The sun has to be exactly overhead to keep those shadows from falling on your panels.

    That's what I'm trying to make. I have been building DIY lithium batteries for friends and, while I haven't had a problem yet, would like to avoid the initial CRACK when first connecting the inverter. Once up and running, it won't be needed.

    This thread is getting fairly long but the elephant in the room hasn't been covred at all. How are you going to power all this on 400 watts of solar? Once you do a detailed energy audit you will be able to figure out battery size, then how much PV you need to run it. 400 watts won't do it.
